This episode copies the premise from the continuing arc on CSI:Miami this season--a doctor torturing women and taking their eyes out.
Errm... no the premise is that the killer was trying to recreate his mother, only one of the victims had their eyes gouged out.
Overall it was a good episode, admittedly the thing I was most looking forward to about it was seeing the transition between Catherine leaving and Julie coming in. The case was actually better than I expected it to be and slightly creepy, I was surprised at the outcome as well, I expected it to be the son of the cancer patient.
What I liked most about the episode was although it was obviously a DB-centric episode, everybody else got some excellent screentime in the episode, particularly Sara. I also like how it wasn't the same pairings stuck with each other throughout the whole episode, we had DB/Brass, DB/Sara, DB/Nick, Nick/Greg, Sara/Nick, Sara/Morgan, Greg/Brass, DB/Greg, etc. This has really sealed to me how Season 12 is a massive step up from the Ray Langston years, maybe even as far as Seasons 6-7 where the team aspect of the show appeared to subside.
DB was really fantastic tonight, I think any remaining doubts of Ted Danson not being to do 'drama' were quickly quashed in this episode. Sara comforting DB in the morgue is a scene I particularly liked. It seemed to be a nice callback to "Bittersweet" earlier in the season with DB comforting Sara at the hospital.
The Catherine continuity was nice throughout the episode. Loved the Nick/Greg staring into her office scene at the beginning of the episode and I liked the various mentions to her throughout.
Brass was on top form today, his comment "at least I have nothing to worry about" had me in stitches.
Nice to see the Sheriff back, shame she seemed to be in a bit of a mood though.
I like how it seems that every character appears to be getting their own episode this season as well: Sara with "Bittersweet", Morgan with "CSI Down", Catherine's arc, Doc with "Genetic Disorder" and DB with this episode. Next week is supposed to be Nick-centric and the recent spoilers hint that Hodges gets his episode too.
I'm looking forward to Elisabeth Shue coming in, the season has been amazingly good so far and if they transition her character just as they've done with DB then I am definitely going to be welcoming her on the team with open arms.
As for the episode, I think it was tough following on from Catherine's departure and I didn't think the story was best, but the character interaction sealed the deal for me.
My rating: 7.7/10 (good)
