"Tressed to Kill" Discussion **SPOILERS**

One question: Do people have to go through a psych eval before being a certified doctor? Cause this guy surely proved they should LOL. Hard to believe that's the same guy from the original "Fright Night", "Mannequin 2" and "Herman's Head". He looks so different now.

Good question GNRF, I was wondering the same thing after I found out he was the serial killer.

Out of all killers on crime shows and in real life, I personally find doctors one of the scariest!!

This episode copies the premise from the continuing arc on CSI:Miami this season--a doctor torturing women and taking their eyes out.

It was a nice regular CSI episode - not shoot'em up scenes. Little too much Morgan for me though. And I would have liked DB talking with Nick at the end, like Ray and Nick did at the end of Turn, Turn, Turn. But other than that, I really liked the episode.

I enjoyed this episode. I didn't see the doctor being the killer until they figured it out. I had totally forgotten about him by that time.

I liked seeing Greg staring in Catherine's office and then Nick coming by and them talking about her. I missed seeing Nick and Greg interaction this season. Nice to see a lot in this episode.

This episode had me thinking twice about letting my hair grow out long again. Creepy killer!

Errm... no the premise is that the killer was trying to recreate his mother, only one of the victims had their eyes gouged out.

Overall it was a good episode, admittedly the thing I was most looking forward to about it was seeing the transition between Catherine leaving and Julie coming in. The case was actually better than I expected it to be and slightly creepy, I was surprised at the outcome as well, I expected it to be the son of the cancer patient.

What I liked most about the episode was although it was obviously a DB-centric episode, everybody else got some excellent screentime in the episode, particularly Sara. I also like how it wasn't the same pairings stuck with each other throughout the whole episode, we had DB/Brass, DB/Sara, DB/Nick, Nick/Greg, Sara/Nick, Sara/Morgan, Greg/Brass, DB/Greg, etc. This has really sealed to me how Season 12 is a massive step up from the Ray Langston years, maybe even as far as Seasons 6-7 where the team aspect of the show appeared to subside.

DB was really fantastic tonight, I think any remaining doubts of Ted Danson not being to do 'drama' were quickly quashed in this episode. Sara comforting DB in the morgue is a scene I particularly liked. It seemed to be a nice callback to "Bittersweet" earlier in the season with DB comforting Sara at the hospital. :)

The Catherine continuity was nice throughout the episode. Loved the Nick/Greg staring into her office scene at the beginning of the episode and I liked the various mentions to her throughout.

Brass was on top form today, his comment "at least I have nothing to worry about" had me in stitches.

Nice to see the Sheriff back, shame she seemed to be in a bit of a mood though.

I like how it seems that every character appears to be getting their own episode this season as well: Sara with "Bittersweet", Morgan with "CSI Down", Catherine's arc, Doc with "Genetic Disorder" and DB with this episode. Next week is supposed to be Nick-centric and the recent spoilers hint that Hodges gets his episode too.

I'm looking forward to Elisabeth Shue coming in, the season has been amazingly good so far and if they transition her character just as they've done with DB then I am definitely going to be welcoming her on the team with open arms.

As for the episode, I think it was tough following on from Catherine's departure and I didn't think the story was best, but the character interaction sealed the deal for me.

My rating: 7.7/10 (good)

Maybe it's just me, but the motive for the killer doctor seemed pretty thrown in and hardly believable. I'm not really expecting some subtle-seeming dark dude lurking amongst the social masses and keeping to himself until he's ready to strike. It just seems barely believable to me, all because his mother was a cancer patient, he finds a muse for his sick serial murders, has enough rage to pour ammonia into the victims' eyes and gouges out the eyes of another, and also stuffs one mouth with cornrows. Sorry, I can't really buy into it.

At first, I didn't think it a big deal that an uninvited snip of the hair was enough to report to homicide detectives until it became the next setup for a murder, followed by another murder. I may sound callous, but I just thought," Shoot, Ponyboy, it's just hair."

The Bread song was memorable, which takes me to when I was 7 back in 1983 or '84. My dad loves this kind of music. Bread seems alright.

Seeing no Marg right after Ted Danson in the credits and knowing she won't be in the credits anymore was saddening. Nice that Robert David Hall has his updated name credit back up again. I thought that he would have a big part in this one, but hopefully, his credits can be there until the season ends.

I'm liking Greg and Nick seeing Catherine's office and interacting after a long while of seeing them somehow apart. I can't believe that I won't be seeing Catherine running into Greg donning some flashy golden Cabernet-looking tiara or sticking markers up his nose in front of her. I sure miss those crazy times! I'm loving the continuity regarding Catherine's departure (probably to replace Jo Danville, who is now in CSI:NY) and D.B.'s call to her. I'm also feeling for D.B. after he gets a call from the victim seconds before her death.

And Sara saying, "Stop looking at my hair!" LOL, it's like seeing her scolding some kid in a middle school classroom, as well as her reaction to the guy cutting that girl's hair. I swear I've never seen her so wide-eyed before. I like that she gets to shine more in here right after Catherine's last episode.

This episode gets a 7.9. I just still can't buy the doctor's motives, but that's just me.

I thought this was a great episode. Just enough believable twists and turns to make it interesting; and Ted and Jorja were awesome throughout. Good use of Sara to be the calmer one here to DB's more tense side, as it seemed the opposite in Bittersweet. They play off each other very well.

I like these types of episodes much more than the action ones (not a single gun shot!); just good insight into the thought process when they are trying to profile the killer as they continue to collect the evidence and more victims turn up.

Loved the DB/Sara scenes; plus, all the characters were involved in an important way to some degree. And I also got an Empty Eyes vibe from some of the scenes.

Best line of the night: Sara's, 'Stop looking at my hair!' Especially the way she said it.
In fact, I loved that whole interrogation scene.

I didn't find the killer doctor angle that unbelievable, or out of the blue. I think he felt guilty for killing his own mother and this haunted him such that he wanted to reincarnate her, or something twisted like that. I guess he was triggered by Ms. Kemp reminding him so much of his mother. The anger to the girls was more of a rage against himself, or the cancer for destroying his mother, I think.
And, to answer someone else's question earlier: no, doctors are not given a psych evaluation. If they don't show any signs of a problem during their training, they will only be evaluated if a complaint is filed through a state medical board, or a family member addresses it.

Nice mentions of Catherine.
Is it too much to ask for a Sara/Grissom phone call? Evidently so.

Great episode. Good use of the lab, good character interactions, and lots of Sara. :) 9/10 from me.

Looking forward to next week.

This episode copies the premise from the continuing arc on CSI:Miami this season--a doctor torturing women and taking their eyes out.

Miami's killer targeted prostitutes. As Crumbs said, only one victim had the eyes removed and the killer was trying to recreate his mother. That is not the case in Miami's killer. But the eye thing has been done in a lot of places. A lot of people said when that scenario popped up in spoilers about Miami that it sounded like a Criminal Minds storyline lol.

Actually, it reminded me a lot of the Criminal Minds episode where the lady was bringing women home and paralyzing them and dressing them up like dolls...had them sitting around the table at a tea party.

And throughout this one, I was thinking it would be a better case for Criminal Minds...more to do with the psych of a killer than evidence. And I think since Catherine is working with the FBI in Quantico, she could help out on a BAU case. ;)

I thought they tied in the evidence collecting very well with identifying the psyche of the killer. Similar to early CSI: The Blue Paint Killer, Paul Millander, Strip Strangler, The Miniature Killer, even the toe fettish guy in 'I Like to Watch'. These types of cases were the ones I enjoyed watching Grissom ponder; and now I think DB has the same ability to make them interesting.
I like the occasional serial killer on CSI. And, I do agree that there does tend to be some inevitable overlap with all the crime shows on TV. I'm just happy when our CSI's do more actual crime solving and less detective work.

Good episode- I really, really enjoyed it. :)

However, "Family Guy" was right- just look for the most well-known of the guest actors, and that's who the killer will be. I had the doctor pegged instantly!
