Torchwood

Did anyone see Torchwood on BBC3 last night (Sunday)? I'm just curious to hear people's opinions on it.

I wasn't that impressed. The first episode especially, I found it really boring. I couldn't wait for it to finish. I know they have to set up the story and everything, but still, it was dull. And I find Gwen particularly annoying and seen as that episode was mostly about her that may have had something to do with it. The second episode was slightly better though not much.

I really want to like it. It should be good being a spin off of Doctor Who which I love, but it's just not. I'll keep on watching and hoping it'll improve.

I know a lot of people will probably disagree with me about this. My sister being one of them .

i haven't seen it yet... but hopefully *fingers crossed* it'll be ready to watch by the time i get home from work tonight.

i want it to be good... after all, it's Captain Jack! it's not allowed to be bad!

Yep, I saw both episodes last night. Half way through the first one I was thinking, 'this is weird and I'm not sure I like it.'

It will probably be something that grows on me, I watched the second episode and began to think it was edgier than Doctor Who, I was worried it would be too similar, but it was really very different.

I found it quite unexpected, the content was surprisingly adult, but then it is shown later than Dr Who was. I'm not sure what kind of audience it will get though if it stays at 10pm on BBC3.

So, basically I am still undecided about it, will probably watch next week, but partly because my husband seemed to really enjoy it and will probably want to watch.

i preferred the first episode rather than the second episode, maybe because of the subject matter: it wasnt really something i want to see (or hear) while watching tv.
Overall, i thought it was better than Dr who, but im not really a fan of that programme :)

It'll probably grow on me too cos I know my sister will want to watch it, so I'll probably end up watching too. But I could take it or leave it.

From BBC website:

Torchwood scores record audience

Torchwood follows secret agents battling human and alien enemies
The opening episodes of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood drew the largest digital channel audience for a non-sport programme, says the BBC. The first two instalments of the series, starring John Barrowman as Captain Jack Harkness, also attracted BBC Three's largest ever audience. The 2100 BST episode had 2.4 million viewers and a 12.7% audience share, the 2145 BST one had 2.3 million (13.8%). Two football matches in 2004 and 2005 earned larger digital TV audiences. BBC Three controller Julian Bellamy said the audience figures for the new sci-fi series were an "incredible achievement". "I'm delighted that last night's Torchwood was such a big hit," he said.

The series follows a team of investigators solving alien and human crime and is aimed at an adult audience.

It has been written by Russell T Davies, who scripted the comeback series of Doctor Who as well as earlier hits including Queer as Folk and Bob & Rose. Torchwood is set in Cardiff and also stars Welsh actress Eve Myles as Gwen Cooper.

The first two episodes will be repeated on BBC Two on Wednesday.

Will be interested to see how many watch the terrestrial repeat, and how many tune in next week! :)

I haven't seen Torchwood either. They're suppposed to be doing another spin-off, but for kids this time. I was reading some stuff aboput Torchwood in a paper ages ago, but I missed the first episode.

Second episode I thought was much much better than the first. I think it was a good start and hopefully should just get better and better!
Plus with the eye candy that is John Barrowman I HAVE to watch it.

The CSI Cardiff comment made me laugh!

Elbystar, thank you. Didn't even think about it like that. I know I'm dumb. And I really liked his character on Doctor who. So I really hope scifi will play it here. Maybe we will have to wait until your first season is over before we get it.

Yep i deffinatly am disagreeing with you there Rachael. Although the first episode was a little slow starting i did like it, and not just because it has Jack in it. I think it's good, i especially loved the second episode that was funny. Fave characters, Jack, Owen, and Gwen. I liked Ianto as well, and Toshiko.

Saw the eps last night. I thought the first one was a little slow moving and focused too much on Gwen, but then I guess it had to be done that way to introduce us properly. Loved the second ep and am looking forward to the rest.

It was a bit slow moving i have to agree and it did seem to focus on Gwen alot, but i still liked it.

Next week is looking very good.
Loving the BBC's website for the show. Very swanky and lots of Jack images to swoon over!
