Chapter 1

Sara Sidle lay on the bed next to a sleeping Gil Grissom. They had been dating for a year and about a week, and Sara was in her own state of heaven.

She heard a slight grunt and turned to face her partner. She thought he was having a nightmare, that was confirmed when he mumbled:

"Sara, no...don't hurt her..."

He shifted, Sara knew he was uncomfortable. She leaned over and gently ran her right hand through his hair:

"Shh, it's ok. I'm here, I'm here. You're alright." She whispered soothingly.

Grissom sound settled back into a normal sleep, well for a while. His next mumble was one that was quite different, Sara was stunned and truthfully, a bit offended:

"Kit Kat..."

Kit Kat?... No WAY! Catherine! "Gil?...Griss wake up, wake up." Sara nudged him a little.

"Whaa..." Grissom opened his eyes sleepily.

"You uhh...You were having a nightmare." She told him.

"Ohh... " Grissom couldn't remember the dream, nothing at all.

"You... You talk in your sleep, did you know that?"

"No actually. Uhh, what did I say?"

"Well first of all you mumbled my name. Then you said 'Kit Kat'" Sara mimicked his tone.

"What?!" Grissom was completely outstanded. I didn't say that...did I?

"You said--"

"I heard you. I didn't, did I?" He interrupted.

"Yes you did. Is there something you've not told me?"

Grissom looked away from her, it was then she knew something was up. She had told him her every secret, why would he keep something from her?

"Sara it's...it's complicated."

"Please, I've told you everything. At least have the decency."

"Ok, ok." Grissom took a deep breath, clasped Sara's left hand and started, "Well, it was the middle of 1988 when..."

Chapter 2

It was the summer of 1988 whan who would be known as Catherine Willows joined the Las Vegas Police Department. She was a young, fresh, determined woman who brought securoty and a bit of fun to Jim Brass' team, which only consisted of himself and the handsome Gil Grissom.

Catherine had a fringe and a darker shade of red hair than what would become of her. A very attractive woman.

Jim introduced her to Gil as soon as she arrived. They smiled and shook hands.

They all worked a rape case, Catherine was a bit shaken by the experience but calmed down. She entered the breakroom and lowered herself onto a chair. She needed to relax.

At that moment Gil enetered the room:

"Hey, how are you enjoying your first day?" He asked softly.

"It's great, I love it here. Much better than the risk of my uhh...last career."

"Last?, What was it out of curiosity?"

"You don't want to know."

"Go on, try me. I won't judge you."

"I... I was a stripper."

Gil made an O shape with his lips. He never expected that:

"See, I told you."

"No, no. Calm down, geez aren't you high strung."

"I am not."

"Are so." He replied, his voice echoed within his coffee mug.

"Am not." Catherine huffed.

"Are too."

"Am not!"

"Is it just me...or do we sound like a couple of pre-teens?"

"No we sound like it." Catherine giggled.

"I never knew it was a superior CSI's job to flirt with his female colleague." Jim walked into the room.

"For your information, I was not flirting...she was." Gil strolled away before Catherine had time to register what he said.

"Get back here you arrogant SOB, I was not."

Gil laughed and left the room completely.

"Oooooh he is the most...arrgh." Catherine was not happy to say an understatement.

"Get used to it, I did."

"How, how...how could you!" Catherine waved her arms toward the door. "Get used to...to...that?"

"He may be arrogant..." Jim walked toward her and placed a hand on her shoulder, "But he is great at his job."

Jim then left leaving Catherine alone. Catherine then heard:

"Oh yeah, and Catherine, I'm not and I repeat NOT a 'that'"

Catherine knew she was busted.

~End Flashback~

"I met and became friends with Catherine over a period of a day. I was then to meet Eddie Willows..."

Chapter 3

Gil walked down the hallway and swore he heard something out of place, a domestic argument:

”Eddie please, I can do this by myself.”

“No you can’t, you don’t want too.”

“Yes I do, now go please just go.”

“Alright, you know I’ll be at the studio.”

“Ok, go, go.”

Gil rounded the corner and walked toward Catherine when Eddie had left:

”Problem?” He asked.

“No, I’m fine.”

”Ok, you know where I’ll be if you want to talk.”

Hours had passed and it was the end of shift when Gil strolled to the locker room. When he arrived however, he heard a woman’s sob, and then a sniff. He only knew one woman in the department. He pushed open the door, his fears were confirmed; Catherine was crying:

“Catherine, oh Cat, what is it?”

“Nothing, go away!” She snapped.

“No Cat, not until I get an answer.”

“Please just go.”

”Cathy, please.”

“It’s nothing.”

“If it’s nothing then you wouldn’t be crying. Tell me please.”

“I can’t.”

“Why not?”

”I just can’t, it’s not the right time nor place.”

“Ok, take your time.”

Gil turned to leave when he heard a desperate whisper:

“Wait, please don’t leave.”

Gil shifted and gazed into her bright, glazed blue eyes. He saw the pain in them; he knew she wanted to tell him something. He softened his gaze and Catherine moved toward him. Her heart was breaking, he could tell. He knew this discussion was not meant for within the lab’s walls.

Suddenly Catherine collapsed against his chest and wept. He couldn’t believe it; Catherine was breaking down. He wrapped his arms around her and stroked her hair soothingly:

“Let it out, just cry Cat. I’m here I’ve got you. You’re safe.”

~End Flashback~

"I was stunned that night. I never saw Catherine so upset. She had been at the lab for a few months and never once told Jim or me about Eddie. She kept everything secret. At first I thought Eddie was smacking her around. But I was soon to find it was something much more serious..."

Chapter 4

~Flashback~

Gil walked into his supervisor's office and handed the casefile over to him. When he opened the door to leave, he noticed Catherine walk into the Lab, staggering:

"Catherine?" He said softly. He saw her eyes, she looked like she was on a different world. "Catherine!" He repeated, this time with more power.

Catherine turned to face him. She smiled weakly, and walked off. Gil chased her.

He found her on the breakroom sofa. She was passed out:

"Catherine? My god!" Gil shot to her side and lifted her head. He stroked her cheek then patted it softly, "Catherine wake up!"

He listened to a really gentle moan. It sounded as if she were in pain. He then spotted what he couldn't see before.

Catherine's eyes were puffed up and the side of her nose were red raw. Gil couldn't help but be frighened for her safety:

"What happened to you Catherine?" He whispered in her ear.

Suddenly Catherine's eyes opened. She fixed her eyes on Gil's ocean blue eyes, filled with fear:

"Catherine, thank god. What's wrong with you? You shouldn't be here if you ill."

"I'm not..." She trailed off.

"Well? Explain Catherine." He demanded.

Catherine hesitated. Then, slowly, she placed her hand into her jeans pocket and took out a small bag of a white powder:

"It's this." She handed Gil the bag. "It doesn't take a genius to figure out what it is."

"Your lying. You don't...you can't..."

"I'm sorry, I'm so so sorry." Catherine burst into a fresh batch of tears. "I can't stop, but I've never ever taken it before work except today. Help me, help me please. Help me stop, help me quit." She huddled against his chest, clutching his shirt.

"I'll help you. I'll help you...it's ok, shhh." He held her there until her rivers of tears ceased.

~End Flashback~

"I was shocked to say the least. I had never pictured her to be like that. I sent her home and she swore to me she would not take anymore. I took her to a rehab clinic the next day, and she stuck to the program like she promised. I then found out who caused her to become addicted, and Catherine asked me to keep her away from him, at least until he cleaned up too. She loved him, but that didn't stop her from saying what she did..."
