The Rest In Peace & Remembrance Thread #2

No news link yet, but they just ran an announcement on the news that Patrick Swayze has lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. The doctors gave him 6 months. He lived two years.

I hope his family finds some peace in this time of grief.

Oops, look like you posted while I was writing this. I loved "Dirty Dancing" too, *lisasimpson*. No one puts Baby in a corner!

Here's a link

Very sad news indeed about Patrick Swayze :( but he certainly lived longer than was expected. He will be remembered as a fighter among other things. He was so awesome in Dirty Dancing. I can't remember how many times over the years I've watched it. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

R.I.P. Patrick :(

I had a feeling that it wouldn't be long till we heard that, though I was hoping he'd survive it. He fought hard. Condolenscenes to the family. Rest In Peace and God speed, Patrick. :'( :(

Damn. I'd been expecting this for some time. It seems like EVERY supermarket tabloid was running "Patrick Swayze Death Watch" stories, replete with purported photos of "him" looking very frail, a few months ago.

He will be missed, but he definitely went out like a champion, keeping active and together as long as he could.

May he Rest In Peace.

my ex-flatmate and i used to buy watermelons from the supermarket just so we could say "i carried a watermelon" :) looks like baby's stuck in the corner now :(

This is a sad day indeed. Not one to make the most powerful performances in his films, but truly one who always left a great impression on his audience. My favorite Patrick movies:The Outsiders (all time fave!), Red Dawn, Ghost, Dirty Dancing (2nd all time fave), Roadhouse, & Waking in Reno.
I will miss him - may he rest in peace.

keith floyd died today too - probably not well known outside the uk, he was a food journalist and probably the orignial celebrity chef. i suspect he drowned in a vat of red wine - his trademark was that he always drank it while cooking, even on tv, and was almost always drunk!

Irish boxer who won bronze in Beijing dies at 27

LONDON (AP) - Darren Sutherland, who won an Olympic bronze medal in boxing at last year's Beijing Games, has been found dead at his home, manager Frank Maloney said. He was 27.

Sutherland was found hanged at his home Monday by Maloney, who was taken to the hospital suffering from shock. Tests revealed that the 55-year-old manager had recently had a heart attack.

Sutherland, who fought for Ireland at the Olympics and was unbeaten in his first four pro fights, who was due to appear with Maloney at a news conference on Tuesday to talk about his next fight, which had been scheduled for Oct. 16.

The Metropolitan Police said Sutherland, who was not married and had no history of personal problems, was pronounced dead just after 3 p.m. Monday. His death is not being treated as suspicious, police said.

Olympic middleweight champion James DeGale, the man who beat Sutherland in Beijing, paid tribute to his former rival.

"He had an Olympic bronze medal and his whole life to look forward to," the Englishman said. "He had a great future and my heart goes out to everyone who knew him."

Former world featherweight champion Barry McGuigan, who was born in Ireland, said Sutherland had the ability to win a world title.

"I am deeply shocked and deeply saddened by this news and my heart goes out to Darren's family," McGuigan said Tuesday. "It is an absolute tragedy. I would describe Darren as a phenomenal talent. "He represented his country with pride as an amateur and I believe he would have become a world champion in the professional ranks one day."

I am saddened by the death of Patrick Swayze. I never saw Dirty Dancing or Ghost, although I want to really badly. I have however seen The Outsiders and I did like him in that movie. I also love his song "She's Like The Wind". He will be missed. R.I.P.

I'm not sure who Keith Floyd was but I wish him peace in the afterlife as well.

As for the boxer, Darren Sutherland, I don't know him either, but a young death like that is so tragic. May he also rest in peace.
