The Football Thread #4 - It Is Not Soccer

Too right his whole game was a joke. Like rafa said he gave the 'invisible penalty' and theres mourinho saying it was a good fair game i think if the shoe was on the other foot we'd hear a complete novel about chelsea are punished for being 'great' etc but styles had a shocker no doubt

I just heard about this

from uefa.com

Sevilla CF midfielder Antonio Puerta remained in a critical condition on Monday afternoon after suffering a heart attack during the Primera División game against Getafe CF.

'Critical condition'
The 22-year-old has been treated at Hospital Virgen del Rocío in Seville since being taken ill in Saturday's match. A hospital statement said: "He is in a critical condition after 36 hours in intensive care as a consequence of serious health problems caused by the heart attack." The Andalusian club revealed Puerta had experienced fainting episodes during the year but said that scans to investigate the problem had come up clear.

  Saw the clip on sportsnews today! How horrible!

Then to EC qualification.. we are doing well because of the last round :D We beat Kazakhstan, Belgium beat Serbia and Portugal-Armenia: 1-1 :D:D:D

We are 2nd in our group :D

I was watching the game when it happened, it was a chaos, anybody knew what happened and his parner saved his life because he was chocking with his own tongue. Last news, not more than 1 hour ago, said he was still critical with possible brain damega due to the lack of oxygen.

^Antonio Puerta just died,it's very sad because he was only 22 and his gf was 7 months pregnant. :(
His team,Sevilla, had a match tonight in Athens,I guess they suspended it.

^^ They'll play it next monday. He was a good player, and very young. This morning's news weren't good, but everybody waited for some good evolution.

I can't believe it. He was only 22...how could such a fit young man have a heart attack.

Didn't know that about his girlfriend...it's just so unbelievably sad..

That's heart breaking, especially since he was so young :(. May he rest in peace & I feel awful for his girlfriend, since she's pregnant with his child. What a sad day for football :(.

It's great that they suspended the match in his honour, but that should've been the case a long time ago, with the fire going on in my homeland of Greece. It makes my heart bleed :(.

Antonio Puerta was a great young talent may he rest in peace

Did anyone watch the Liverpool v Toulouse game? i thought that was a very fitting and emotional tribute to Rhys Jones to play the Z cars anthem and also for Rafa to hug the parents well done Liverpool FC

I've only just heard the news about Antonio Puerta. So very sad. :(
Did anyone watch the Liverpool v Toulouse game?
Yes, I saw it, and what LFC did in Rhys Jones' memory was so touching. Indeed, well done Liverpool for showing that at times like this there is great solidarity in football. Rafa's hug was a truly poignant moment and seeing all the fans showing their support like that was very heartwarming.

I'm also sad about this tragedy. :(

Actually I wanted to rant that Salzburg didn't win the Champions League qualification, but it doesn't matter now. Such things are secondary.

Sevilla lost the Europe's Supercup to Milan. Pretty understable, they were exhausted and Puerta is still on their hearts.

The last days have been a real drama for them. :(

OMG  If we beat Poland on Wednesday... we are like going to EC 2008!!!  I am sooo shocked!

Wow, Finland is indeed doing well. And their last match will be against Portugal, that one could be really important.

Germany does quite well; honestly I’m a bit surprised, normally we rather suck in the qualifications and this time it’s nearly a bit boring. Not that I would complain, though…

I know! Everyone is shocked! If we get in, I'd do (almost) anything to see at least one game! [too bad tickets are always so hard to get!]

It's strange..we suck at everything (except in ice hockey) and now we are in medal games also in EC of volleyball
