Lab Technician
Alright, here's the final part of this story. Maybe someday I'll come up with something else. Thank you very much!
“Auntie Paula, where are we going?” Sean asked his foster mother.
“Sean, you’d came to our home nearly a month and wouldn’t go out. Today I’m taking you to a friend.” Paula said.
“I don’t want to see your friend.” Sean pouted.
“Actually, she’s your friend.” Paula pointed to Stella, who sat on the bench in the park.
“STELLA!” Sean cried and ran toward Stella.
“Sean.” Stella held him tight and kissed him hard on the cheek. “Oh, you looked good, sweetheart.”
“Mac said you’re having baby. Where’s the baby?” Sean looked around.
“They didn’t come with me. But I can show you their pictures.” She took out her purse and showed the pictures to Sean, “This is my son Lawrence and this is my daughter Sophia.”
“They looked the same.”
“They are twins.” Stella smiled.
“Cool!” Sean looked at the pictures again. Stella chuckled.
“And I bring something else.” Stella gave Sean a paper bag.
“What is it?” Sean dug into the bag, “It’s my robot!” Sean sat down and started playing with his toy.
“Thank you, Detective Bonasera. I’ve never seen him so happy before. He wouldn’t even look at me in the first two weeks. But he’s making progress.” Paula said with moist eyes.
“Thank you for your patience, Mrs. White. He’s a good kid. Please give him some more time. Someday, he would love you as much as his own mother.” Stella patted Paula’s hand.
---------------------------------------
Mac was helping Stella to bath the babies. Although he was busy with work, he tried to help whenever he could. For the first few times, he was not much help. He thought taking care of babies was much harder than solving the cases, like changing their clothes while their little hands were waving and feet stomping. And he had to figure out why the babies cried because they couldn’t tell. Were they hungry, wet diaper, thirsty or something else? But Mac Taylor was a good observer. Now, he could tell from the babies’ faces what they wanted. He enjoyed every minute with his lovely wife and babies.
“Stella, are you ready to go back to field works tomorrow?” He asked his wife while fastening Lawrence’s diaper.
“Absolutely. You don’t know how much I miss it.” Stella chuckled.
“When will the baby-sitter here?”
“She’ll come at seven thirty. If I have to work over time, she could drop the babies at Mrs. Stanley’s place. But I don’t think Mrs. Stanley would leave the babies to the baby-sitter when we’re not around.” They both laughed.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley lived next door. They were retired teachers, didn’t have any child. They treated Mac and Stella liked their younger brother and sister. Mrs. Stanley burst into tears when they were told Stella was pregnant.
“Welcome back, Detective Bonasera!” Mac kissed her on the cheek.
