“Sar, just come out and say it. It can’t be that ba...”
“I slept with Grissom,” terror flashed across her face as she felt Nick loosen his grip.
“You slept with...” Nick couldn’t bring himself to utter the name. Taking a deep breath, he brought his hands up to his eyes.
Sara lowered her head in shame. She felt her head get light as her breathing started to get heavy. She felt her heart shatter as she lowered head into her hands, “We’ve been dating for around a year,” Sara squeezed before rethinking it.
“What?!” Nick exclaimed, letting his tone get out of control, “You dated?!”
“Nick,” Sara couldn’t continue as she looked up at Nick, who’s face was covered in tears. His eyes became puffy, cheeks red and streams of tears rushed down his pale face, “Nick, please don’t...” Sara burst into tears as she realized just how this was affecting him.
“Don’t what?” Nick answered, voice flaming.
“Don’t,” more tears slipped from the barriers of her eyes, “don’t cry. I can’t handle seeing you cry.”
“Why?” Nick stood up, moving to the other side of his livingroom, looking straight at Sara, “How would you feel if the person you love and have always loved slept and dated your supervisor without telling you? I beat you’d cry your fucking eyes out,” Nick wiped the tears from his face, “and after I thought you...” he shook his head trying to forget the once happy thought that used to occupy it.
“Nick, you don’t think I know how it feels to have your heart broken?” Sara pierced her eyes at him, trying to find any sympathy behind those brown, puffy eyes.
Nick just shook his head, moving his gaze away from Sara and started toward the kitchen.
“Nick,” Sara yelled, running after him and grabbing his attention, “don’t walk away from me!” she forced herself to hold back the tears, “you said you were a good listener, so listen.”
Nick stood there, staring at the once addicting Sara Sidle. How did he fall for it? How didn’t he know there was a catch to his fantasy? Of course Sara would of been with someone else... look at her. But, Grissom... Gil Grissom? He couldn’t look at Sara; something he didn’t think was possible. Taking a deep breath, he lowered himself into the couch. Sara walked over and sat on the other side of the couch, making sure not to get to close to Nick at this point.
“Look Nick,” Sara said, almost a whisper, “I know you don’t really want to talk to me right now, fine. But I just want you to know that I know how it feels to have your heart broken. To have your heart stomped on, the think that no one is there for you, to not feel loved. I know how it feels to cry yourself to sleep at night, thinking how you’re going to get through the day tomorrow.” More tears slipped down her face. Talking about being weak wasn’t really something she likes to talk about, but Nick needs to know, he deserves to know, “If you don’t remember, I had a boyfriend. Hank?”
Nick’s face became soft, remembering how much Sara cried and remembering how much Hank hurt her. They only thing Nick wanted to do at that point was to hurt every guy that made Sara a little sad; not feel wanted.
Sara noticed Nick’s changed expression, hoping that she was actually getting through to him, “He hurt me Nick, he really did. I didn’t think I could feel so weak. After Hank... broke up with me, I just really wanted to feel loved. I thought Grissom was the answer. I thought that he’d love me, I thought that I could love him and start a life with him, I thought he was the one.”
Nick looked up and stared at Sara. Grissom, Sara’s soul mate? He always knew they had a thing for each other, but he finally thought that Sara moved on and, hopefully, would soon see the true man for her, him. For over six years, Sara’s the only woman that Nick loved. Yeah, he had some little relationships, but Sara was the only one he truly loved. He tried to find someone else, hoping that his little obsession with Sara was just an ordinary crush, but the only thing he proved to himself was that Sara is the only woman for him.
“But,” Sara continued, grabbing Nick’s attention again, “I was proven wrong; really wrong.”
Nick shifted on the couch, now facing Sara. What does she mean by really wrong? If Grissom...
“Do you know why I came over here?” Sara asked, hoping Nick would give her a sentence answer.
“Because you... needed me?” Nick answered, hoping the answer didn’t sound to stupid.
“Yeah,” Sara said, taking another deep breath, “he broke my heart, Nick.”
All angry emotions that Nick held against Sara vanished and turned to Grissom, “He hurt you.” A tear formed in Nick eye as he noticed Sara’s torn up expression.
“You know Lady Heather?” Sara asked Nick, hoping he’d at least heard of her.
“Oh,” Nick replied, knowing where it is going, “he talked to me about her.”
“Yeah,” Sara answered under her breath, “well, he stayed with her the night.”
“He what?!” Nick yelled, standing up now, “that bastard! If I was him, I wouldn’t want to spend one second away from you; let alone a night.”
“Nick,” Sara said, a smile upon her face.
“No, Sar,” Nick said, grabbing his car keys.
“Nick” Sara said in worry, “where are you going?”
“To Grissom’s,” Nick said, turning around and staring into Sara’s terror-filled eyes.
“Why?” Sara asked.
“I don’t think anyone knows this, Sara, but I know Kung Fu. Ever since Hank hurt you like that, I wanted to be strong enough so i could hurt every guys twice as much as they hurt you.” Nick confessed to Sara, “Don’t wait up.”
Letting a sign, Sara didn’t know if she should stop Nick, or go along for the enjoyment of it all. Without getting a moment to actually think about the situation, Nick’s SUV pulled out of the driveway and headed toward Grissom’s house.
