Season 9 *Spoiler* Picture Thread

Definitely doubtful! I'm looking at the promo pictures for the other CBS shows, and they seem to be much clearer and way better than the one we got.

I'm still confused as to why the focus on Grissom when he's leaving...Catherine yes..but Grissom..the guy is outta there...

i think it's more the focus on why he's leaving. everybody is saying that our views and opinions of the characters won't be the same after the premiere, so i think we're headed into a huge Grissom arch to take us to ep 10, which would also be how Sara fits back into a few episodes

ITA. The premiere and the first half of the season will be directed at bringing the regular viewers back with the focus on Grissom and his departure arc; then we will start seeing promos aimed at keeping the regular fans and attracting new ones with the new characters. It's a transition, and the hype is directed at a specific target audience at a specific time. All of it is meant to keep CSI on top. The regular cast may be in the background for now, but there will come that time when they will be at the forefront. Tptb have a master plan; sit back and enjoy.

But, the thing is, I can't sit back and enjoy simply because TPTB have a "master plan". So they bring the old fans back for Grissom and new fans back for the new characters, but what about those of us who enjoy the regular cast? We just get to chill til episode 11 simply because Grissom won't be in the picture anymore? Doesn't make much sense to me.

And another thing, we got a picture of the new girl, and numerous pictures of Grissom and Sara before we got a good, non-blurry picture of Greg. You know? The lab rat turned CSI who has since been put on the back burner with exceptions like Fannysmackin' and a few others? The whole point of ensemble is the soul fact that there are numerous people in the cast. Not just one or two, but many. So when the characters who are not constantly being put in the spotlight just happen to be favorites of many on the board, we tend to get a bit frustrated.:scream:

Okay I'm done...:shifty:

But the promos are for advertising and marketing purposes only. That doesn't mean the regular characters won't have good screentime in the episodes. I think they will. Nick seems to be mentioned alot in the spoilers, and Greg has a good storyline in 9x08 of what we know so far.
That said, I have to admit, as much as Nick and Greg fans have complained, where is Catherine and her fans? Afterall, she is supposedly the co-star; and I haven't seen much about her at all.

I agree. We have seen barely any Catherine. I am mainly a Nick and Cath fan, but I feel for the Greg fans because I think they have always received the short end of the stick regarding pictures, spoilers, and even episode content. jtd94, you're right about the advertising comment, but still. Would it really hurt to put the regulars in the picture with Grissom and Catherine? I mean even in the background would be nice. And I'm not including the group picture we already received simply because the quality is so poor.

I am tired of Grissom fans telling me to 'just chilll' because we've had to 'just chill' for a long time and we are tired of it!

What people don't realize is that the amount of promotion that focus solely on Grissom gives the non regular viewers the impression that the show is just about him and him only and the fact that it is a 'ensemble case' gets lost because of it.

And the fact, the more you focus on one character amongst a cast of characters, the more alienating you do of the other fans..

Billy has been the 'king' long enough and now he wants out, so whatever plan the tptb has hasnt' worked so far because everyone is freaking out because he's leaving and now a lot of people are predicting the end of this show because of it-because mainstream audiences have connected Billy to the show because of the amount of promotion thats been centred around him.

I couldn't have said it any better myself. The word "ensemble" has lost it's meaning on CSI, completely. I know this is getting off topic, but this never ending TV show model of "The Male Lead" unfortunatly infected CSI when it started back in 2001. Cath/MH was his cute female sidekick, and they had a montley crue of 'goonies' trailing behind them and lurking in there ever present shadow. Then, between season 3 and 5, they made more chances available for the 'ensemble cast' to shine. Then when talks of WP leaving surfaced, they reverted right back to there old ways of Grissom always being on the front burner, and the other cast members waiting patiently to shine. And then to boot, many story lines revolving around the ensemble cast weren't even finished. They got 2 episode story arcs which left much to the imagination.

Catherine's probably busy making out with Adam Novak and doesn't have time to make an appearance in those pics. :p

As frustrated as I am, I can't say the lack of Catherine in the promos is a surprise to me. After all, she hasn't had any real storyline since BTK (it's been two years. Wow!) and I know some people are not going to like this, but to me, ever since the canon you-know-what, she's been shoved to the side to make room for that. Anyway, thank God Marg shows up at enough events to make her fans happy. We may not have Catherine pics, but we do have a lot of Marg pics to drool over. And I guess some of the Catherine fans are actually looking forward to Grissom's departure because it's likely that after he's gone, she'll finally get to shine again.

We're a peaceful bunch. Heh!

Yeah I'm crossing my fingers for a GOOD Catherine story line this year. Like the whole situation with Lindsey could totally be her time to shine.

Yeah but even George has more exposure than Eric. I mean, dayumm. I want me some Eric! :)
The only reason we see more of George is that he seems to be the only one who participates in the CBS press junkets to promote the show.

Of course, I could be wrong but I can't remember the last time I saw anyone but him out promoting the show. He went to France, he went to Australia, etc...

So last night "Two and a Half Deaths" was on Spike, and Grissom actually said, "It's good to be king."

Catherine was supposed to have an interesting storyline last season...something to do with Sam's hotels and such, but the strike took care of that. Hard to say what direction they'll take now with all of these new developments.

Yes, she was supposed to be toying with the idea of leaving CSI and becoming the head of Sam's hotel and casinos. From what I've heard, they may bring that storyline back this season.

Also, remember that creepy guy in that season 8 episode with the little girl? I've heard that he may be coming back and bothering Catherine.

As for the ensemble discussion, there are unfortunately very few shows that can pull it off so every character gets an even amount of time. There is always someone or something or a certain storyline that stands out to people and no matter if the hype is good or bad, that element will be continued because it creates hype in general for the show.

I agree though that CSI needs to try harder to make it an even ensemble show this year. I don't like the episodes of late where we see two CSI's for practically the whole episode and the others for a few seconds. I think that episodes written like season 1's "Unfriendly Skies" need to return. :)
