Season 8 Spoiler Discussion #2 - Spoiler Scene: Do Not Cross

I can't be sure, but I get the feeling the point of the reporter was two-fold: to introduce some sort of ongoing storyline with that article she's writing (my guess was that it was supposed to refer to Mac letting Jo be a part of the DC rapist case, but I could be wrong) and to really show that Mac is ready to move on and start a new romantic relationship. The woman hitting on him, Lindsay teasing him and Jo being her usual subtle self at the end ;) really work together to make Mac think about himself as a single man who is interested in pursuing a romance after the closure he got in the premiere re: Claire. That works nicely with Christine coming into the picture within the next few episodes.

We'll see if I'm right, though.
I totally agree with you. I get the sneaky suspicion that her story will come up again. I don't know if it'll be because he let Jo have a fringe involvement in the DC rapist case though. It could be, but there's also how he didn't fire Stella after the whole Greek debacle, and how there were no repercussions for Danny for not reporting his badge stolen, just in the last couple years. Both incidents being ones which should have resulted in disciplinary action of at least some sort.

I do think it was mostly to pave the way for Christine, like you said, set him up to move in the direction of an actual relationship with someone again. And oh Jo and her "subtle ways"...!

8.17 "Unwrapped"

I'll be back in a bit with more information. :)

ETA: Ok, here we go:
8.17 "Unwrapped":

~ Kelvin and his wife Elaine head to an apartment building in a rough part of town. They both grew up here, but they're much more successful now. They are here to visit Elaine's sister Alicia, who has twins celebrating their birthday today. Kelvin and Elaine head inside with a bag of gifts and ring the buzzer, waiting for a response.

~ Meanwhile, two young men are preparing to fight in the courtyard, but they stop when they hear the sound of a gunshot. A man wearing a ski mask and gloves comes running out of the apartment building, and one of the young men, Rydell, rushes over to see what happened. Kelvin is bleeding from a gunshot wound to the chest, and he tries to comfort Elaine even as he's dying. Rydell pulls out his phone to call 911, but it's too late.

~ Kelvin's death is the result of a mugging gone wrong. The team speaks with Alicia and her neighbors, who all reveal that Kelvin was a well-known and well-liked man around here. He never forgot where he came from, and he used some of the money he earned as a successful accountant to fix up the local playground and basketball courts. However, even though everybody knew Kelvin had money, Alicia didn't tell anyone that he and Elaine would be stopping by today. The shooting appears to be a coincidence.

~ Lucy's birthday is in this episode! The team heads to her party, along with Christine (8.16).
It looks like this will be their storyline-filled-with-minorities episode. Pretty much every character is black in this ~rough part of town. :wtf:

Right so because Mac is seeing someone, she is automatically part of the 'Family' now. don't think so. Nice to see Lucy back after about 100 years

They did say there wouldn't be any huge age ups....I am gonna love it personally.

Sure... In the episode where Adam almost gets killed and blows the case last year it was suggested that Lucy was 4 years old. I don't know a 2 year old who can mess with an ipad.

Please don't tell me the title of the finale willl be "Wrapped" or any other synonyms? :(

Lucy should be three by now. At least her birthday falls in the same month she was born!

They have jumped at least once, that's true. The one time they probably did skip a little was during season...5, was it? Right when Danny was learning to walk again. There was a few months' skip, depending how long the break between seasons was. It put her up to like 10 months.

I do wonder how fast kids learn ipads and stuff these days. The writers might not have realized what's really what with technology and kids and screwed it up. They do have a habit, though, and not just here...Lindsey Willows aged a couple of years too fast on the original as well. I think it was season 7, the ep where she hitchhiked downtown...she was about 15 or 16 instead of about 13 or 14.

I do! My little second cousin. Well, he can work an i-phone, so he could probably work an i-pad too.

My little second cousin just watched my mother use her i-phone and picked it up pretty quickly... like within a few minutes LOL. As for i-pads, he has all kinds of i-pad like things that are made for kids as well as kid computers, so that may help him with the real thing a bit LOL.

True about the first part.
I dunno, doesn't seem too odd to me. Don't forget, Lucy is Mac's god-daughter (even if the show seems to have forgotten that fact :p), and if he and Christine have been going out for a couple months at this point, it seems perfectly normal that she'd go with him.
