Personally I can't figure out why NY is the least watched of the 3 CSIs. Miami's storylines are not as good. sure it's brightly colored and flashy but lacks something. But that's just me

You are not alone. Story-wise, NY is the strongest this season. NY has been challenging LV in writting since the beginning. Miami never came up with an episode as great as NY and LV did though it had some really good episodes before. I guess Miami draw in more viewers because as you said it's visually beautiful (but so fake). And the show has Horatio which has been an icon.
One reason I can think of why NY is the least watched: maybe because it's the youngest. Some who watched LV and/or Miami first might say "Oh another CSI. It won't be any different so why would I watch it." I wish NY was born earlier than Miami!
Or others might have been bored to death by the darkness of season 1. Honestly, I didn't like season 1. But it grew on me as I watch it over and over again. Had I watched season 1 or the pilot first, I wouldn't be a fan right now.
I left that last part in because it made me happy. (Source)CBS also dominated the 9-11 block with its combination of veteran CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 10.26 million; A18-49: #1, 1.9/ 6) and Blue Bloods (Viewers: #1, 11.07 million; A18-49: #1, 1.8/ 6), which has clearly earned its full season renewal stripes. While CSI: NY has lost steam since moving from the Wednesday 10 p.m. hour, its performance is still worthy of accolades on considerably lower HUT level Friday.

If CSI: NY stays at these levels, count on it returning next season.
Medium, which just had its episode order slashed from 22 to 13 this season, opened the evening for CBS with 6.86 million viewers (#1) and a second-place 1.4 rating/5 share among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. One year earlier, former occupant Ghost Whisperer was stronger at 8.29 million viewers and a 2.0/ 7 in the demo on Oct. 30, 2009. That led into older-skewing favorites CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 10.42 million; A18-49: #1, 1.8/ 6) and Blue Bloods (Viewers: #1, 11.54 million; A18-49: #1, 1.8/ 6) from 9-11 p.m., which in this lackluster environment are definitely considered “winners.” If CBS can strengthen the 8 p.m. hour in midseason, both crime solvers could benefit.
CBS has to cancel Medium immediately!!!
