Something about the murdered Coach and his wife and TJ in episode 13.06 "Pick And Roll"

He (The Coach) is arrogant, cocky, full of himself, handsome and in good shape Coach is The Man in charge of the West Las Vegas University basketball team, and he's an imperious prick who rides roughshod over everyone in sight. A man with a fiefdom where he rules supreme, Coach barks orders at everyone, from star players to the President of the University, and no one challenges his authority because he's a winner. But Coach's private life includes an adulterous wife and his own private passion for BDSM -- and when he's found brutally murdered, everyone who has ever known the jerk is a suspect, including Detective Russell's son Charlie.

Linda is Coach's widow, and she has what appears to be an impeccable alibi: she was in Lake Tahoe when Coach was murdered. She's mildly cooperative with the police -- but not enough to actually be helpful. She's later revealed to have lied flagrantly to the detectives, and to have found Coach's body without calling the police.

TJis a budding superstar on the basketball court, TJ is one of Charlie's teammates, and he's a witness to a couple of Charlie's ugly confrontations with Coach. Questioned by the detectives when Coach's blood is found on his jersey, TJ reluctantly points the finger -- not at himself, but at Russell's son.

Re: Season 13 Spoiler Lab Discussion Part 1

USA Today - More Returning Series: CSI, Bones, & Scandal

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation
CBS, Wednesdays, 10 ET/PT
Premiere: Sept. 26

Where we left them: Under attack from the former undersheriff of Las Vegas, the murderous Jeffrey McKeen (Conor O'Farrell) -- who runs an underworld empire of drugs and corrupt cops from his prison cell -- the CSI team was on the ropes, with Undersheriff Ecklie (Marc Vann) gunned down on the street, investigator Nick Stokes (George Eads) handing in his resignation in frustration, and supervisor D.B. Russell's (Ted Danson) young granddaughter kidnapped.

Where they're headed: The Season 13(!) premiere picks up the moment the cliffhanger ended, with even more team members in danger -- including the newest, Julie Finlay (Elisabeth Shue), who takes off after the kidnapped Kaitlyn and shares a secret-filled past with Russell. The "Cape-Fear-ish" storyline, says executive producer Don McGill, was designed to take the ever-serene D.B. and see "what would happen if we took that guy who seemed to have everything in control, his family and work, and really pushed him to the edge."

That push will carry through the season. "We show his worst fears, that his granddaughter is dead, and we see his demons and his darker side, his impulse to go an eye for an eye," McGill says. "As we lean forward into the season, we'll see that worst fear play out. Once something happens to a family -- even if the resolution seems neat and tidy -- the emotional fallout is anything but."

They'll also explore the relationship between him and Shue's Finn. "They have a long history," albeit a mostly professional one, McGill says. While D.B. is committed to his family, "for Finley, who struggles to have relationships with men, Russell is kind of the perfect man -- but unattainable, which is part of the attraction."

Who's new or returning: McGill says they'll focus on the core cast this season -- including, finally, answering the perplexing question: What's up with Sara (Jorja Fox) and Grissom (the long-departed William Petersen)? He's been in the jungle for years, but she's still on the case -- are they even married anymore? "We'll answer that, in a way that may surprise people." McGill says. "We'll deal with her dissatisfaction with the long-distance relationship, and may find a resolution as to where the marriage is headed." The season also will explore the relationship of Ecklie to his estranged CSI daughter Morgan (Elisabeth Harnois) -- and his romance with Hodges' mom Olivia (guest Jaclyn Smith).

e-online Spoiler Chat

Ann in Salt Lake City: Original CSI spoilers, if you got them.

Elisabeth Harnois tells us that the new season of CSI is going to put us through the wringer, emotionally. "So my father is left on the brink of death in the end of last season. We find out what happens to him and I get resolution with that relationship," she says. "Ted's granddaughter is kidnapped, so that gets resolved. And we kind of revisit cases that have been near and dear to the fans' hearts. Certain characters that were killed in past seasons, we kind of revisit their storylines. So there is a lot of weaving. The theme I think is weaving in all our personal lives with the procedure. And that makes it very personal and emotional for all of us, which is cool."

TV Guide's Ask Matt

Question: CSI really didn't deal with Nick quitting during the season premiere. By the end of the episode, he seemed like he was back at work and that was it. Do they plan on dealing with the fact that he quit, or is that storyline pretty much done? It seems like everything that deals with Nick is swept under the rug, which is a shame. — Connie

Matt Roush: I'm not sure what's in store and have only watched the first two episodes of the season, but it seems to me they resolved his dilemma by reinforcing how much he was needed during the cliffhanger crisis, and he put aside his angst to get the job done, after which he's back in business — as you pretty much knew he would be, right? These "I'm quitting" season-ending quandaries are so bogus, and beneath the status of one of the few remaining original players. He probably does deserve better storylines, but CSI has always been an ensemble show in name only, and while the supporting cast will get big moments on occasion, the current stars are unquestionably Ted Danson and Elisabeth Shue (both bringing quite a lot to the latest reinvention), and to expect otherwise is setting yourself up for disappointment.

Inside EW

Hey Sandra. I’m a big Stokes fan. Can I get some Nick-centric CSI scoop? — Dani
Nick Stokes is going to get his by a major case of puppy love — literally. In the in Oct. 31 episode, Nick will find himself bonding with a dog from the K-9 unit while investigating the death of the pooch’s human companion. By the end of the episode (and after heaps of adorable moments), he might find himself in a committed relationship.
