Hey, just thought i'd wade in here. I actually like Riley - i think her characters interesting in its own way, she isnt your typical newbie so to speak, i think she has a past that - whilst its not crippling to her everyday existance - it affects the way she acts towards people and situations.
I understand why we havnt really seen much of her (even though it ticks me off haha), i think the writers are trying to get the audience to like or atleast get to know Ray, its more important for the show that Grissoms replacement is firmly cemented into the audiences mind from the offset, that can't be done if both of the new characters had equal introduction time. The audience would be bombarded with all this new information...if that makes any sense.
I agree with what you're saying. I think, however, that part of the reason they're giving her less screentime is so that viewers don't start to adamantly dislike her. It definitely seems, based on S9 episode discussions, that people have been getting rather frustrating whenever she has a significant amount of screentime because her screentime is seen as taking away screentime from more established favorites (i.e. Nick, Greg and Cath). While I look forward to seeing more of Riley, I think that, given viewers' reactions so far, at least judging by reception on this site, TPTB are best off waiting for viewers to warm to her character before they give her additional screentime.
