Pluto - is it a planet?

Oh i searched for this thread but i couldnt find it! It said that on my msn today and i was like 'I need to post this!" haha anyways im glad someone found the thread.

Personally im sad they declared it not a planet. I love Pluto.

Well..A dwarf planet is still a planet right? It just means that it doesn't hold much of the same characteristics as your regular-joe planets. So since Earth is the only planet that holds actual life and actual water and actual air, does that mean the rest of the planets aren't real planets? I'm just curious as to where they draw the line.

 But I'm not a scientist and I haven't read up on it.

If you earthlings decide Mars is not a planet, I will vaporize you with a Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator.

Mars is not a planet.

*waits to be vaporised*

I was quite sad to hear the news it was no longer a planet :( Maybe they find a new planet to add to the Solar System :D

I can't believe that they came to the decision that Pluto is not a planet! :( But... I like the fact that it is now called a 'dwarf planet', I think that just makes it even cuter :D

Well, Pluto will remain in our heads as a planet

I've memorized all nine planets of the solar system in order and I even made a model of it when I was young! Pluto is still a planet to me even if they decide to drop it. :p
Well said!

Pluto will always be a planet in my eyes, for god’s sake I've grown up with it being a planet, how can it just be dropped?

Who cares if it doesn't orbit around the sun or something and that it's small - it's planet discrimination if you ask me!

i cant believe that pluto is nowa dwarf planet! erghh i like pluto...im gonna miss it! hmmm i wonder if they will change the school text books?? eh probably not...for a little while.

I know! I kept on thinking that since they dropped pluto they're gonna have to reprint every single school textbook in the world. They shouldn't have done this. (I think THIS is what causes wars, NASa administrators saying Pluto isn't a planet and then dropping it and then all of a sudden BOOM!! we're all hit by a rocket from NASA.)

I guess it will be aplanet for me too. Hee, I read some Finnish tabloidpapers during the weekend and almost in every article they mentioned also Pluto the Dog

When i was at school, my science teacher had a saying to teach us the order of the planets. It goes "My very elderly mother just served up nine pizzas". Now that Pluto is no longer there it will have to be "My very elderly mother just served up nachos". lol
Anyone got any other suggestions? As for Pluto not being a planet anymore i'm not too bothered by it but it does seem strange that it's gone.

thats funny, I never heard of that before... I will have to remember that for my kids. :)

You never heard that before? It's a classic! I know that's how I learned my planets. I'm going to keep it the same when I teach my kids, 'cause Pluto deserves to be a planet gosh darn it!
