It just means that it will run for that long to see the kind of ratings it brings, a test run if you will, also is this a good night or not for it to be on, etc.

The Futon Critic says that its Yet to be determined on what will happen next. That link will take you to the up front 2007/2008 season.
 
I just wanted to add this in, because I was wondering this too a few months ago:

Usually a show will tape 6 - 7 episodes before it begins. If the show is successful, it tapes more episodes :)
 
correct me if I'm wrong, but the episode about the little girl was new, right?
You know how the theripist asked him if he saw his victims? Didn't he already tell her that (in the one with the homeless lady) He saw the older lady stick her tounge out at him?
Am I just confused or did they do something wrong?
btw: the little girl one was the best one since the first episode.
 
Thanks for catching that. I must have been thinking about the CBS announcement of the fall schedule when I wrote that.
