Something_Wicked will send a base, that means, a image that is already croped and resized. Then, you'll have to add the coloring, textures...

Umm, nope a base is a pre-cropped image that's already cropped to 100x100 size. All you have to do is color the picture etc, to get your desired image. Here's an example. I'll take the base *which will already be cropped for everyone for the challenge*:
and recolor it however I want and come up with
everyone understand

I would much rather be given the original images than the bases. Cropping is a part of icon making and can make a huge difference in an icon. I would much rather judge and be judged based on crops. Also, I would definitely prefer to have a set of four to six images for everyone to choose from, rather than have everyone be sent a bunch of different ones. It's a lot easier and, IMO, fairer, to judge icon quality when you know what the icon base looks like and when everyone is working with the same set of bases.

I really like the bases-idea! I agree that cropping is a very important part of icon-making but it might be interesting to see what everyone can come up with when the cropping is alrady done. Then you have to be even more creative coloring-wise.

It's not really different from working with normal screencaps or other pics. The only difference is that this time the pic will already be cropped to 100x100 for you. Everything else will remain the same...you color it, you add brushes/textures/text/etc. Don't worry, you'll see that it's nothing to be "afraid" of!

I like the idea. The fact that it's already cropped (no more cropping allowed) IS the challenge. For that fact, I would be in favor of not too many more restrictions on it. After all, I would think that the idea would be to increase the difficulty (ie. restrictions) as the challenge goes along.

As a part of the voting, I was planning on leaving out being able to vote on crops. I'm sorry you don't think the idea will be challenging. But it seems that the majority of the participants like the idea and like some of them pointed out, it is challenging to work with bases and that's where the challenge lays. I'm sorry if you don't feel the same way, but I plan on having the challenge and I'm really sorry if you don't agree on it. If I don't receive anymore votes I'll have results up tomorrow night and perhaps have the challenge up Friday Here's some bases I have:

Frankie Iero
Green Day
Gwen Stefani

Taylor Swift
A mixture of these bases (was thinking of using 1 or 2 of each)

I'm totally with you on that one Smokey.Something_Wicked....I say, it's your challenge, you run it the way you like.
I personally don't want to give too much input into the decision making, because for me the challenge is to do something that I might not ordinarily do...and for that to happen, someone else needs to force me into something I might not pick as a choice.
