I'm Irish and I remember in the very first episode of angel, I heard Doyle speak and went "that accent is so CRAP!" then like a week later found out he was irish and went "oh dear" and then he died. So that was bad.

I was on another forum and had other British folks insisting that even though she is British, Claire Forlani's accent was a "fake" one, because "no one in England actually sounds like that. That's just what Americans think an English person should sound like."

It was like in neighbours where they had that guy from Northern Ireland, Connor, and he was an alcoholic with a terrible accent who couldn't read and played the tin whistle. And my reaction was "so that's what the world thinks of us?!" I think that US shows tend to make foreign accents seem like a caricature of the real thing, like Giles in Buffy. Hear him speak in an interview, and he's proper cockney with an earring. I would love it if Peyton had a really strong Brummie accent or something.
