Re: Mac #9: new thread title

It was because Gary had reservations about seeing Mac and Peyton in bed together and Anthony said something like ''Gary you are the stud of the show, your character needs to sleep with this woman. Period''. Well he did look absolutely gorgeous and had that after sex glow:drool: :devil:but he looked annoyed. Maybe because it wasn't Stella?
My opinion? A couple things actually.

1) On a real life level, Gary was absolutely right over Zuiker on this point. That scene should not have started s3. Peyton had no chance as a character after that, and given the *on-screen* development of Mac up til then, it was definitely out of place. Don't get me wrong, I firmly believe Mac had had his fun :)devil:) prior to then (thinks back to 'Jamalot' ;)), but it was all rather vague insinuation. Gary did not turn Steppenwolf theatre into what it's become by accident. He has pure creative visionary genius, and an intuitive gift to see how and where productions should go. Zuiker should have listened to him and used this scene later. It would have been perfect for after 'Silent Night'.

2) On a character level, don't forget that he told Stella in s4 that it was Peyton who had pursued him. And while I think he eventually fell in love with her, I think a huge part of his side of the relationship equation was some sort of need to prove to himself that he could make a relationship work again. Because you're right, he did seem unsettled that whole intro scene, and having just re-watched it to refresh my memory on his body language and facial expressions, it wasn't just because he got a page on his phone. Also, remember the ep where it was his birthday weekend and it starts with them at the opera? I've always felt so bad for him because he looks as if he's been being forced to be there, and in fact seems almost happy when he gets called away to the crime scene. (Now, this was long before they had planned the flashbacks we're going to get in the s8 premiere. In fact, I think they've gone back and used how the opera scene with Peyton came across to fill in the flashback. And yes, I'm being very vague about s8 specifics as I don't want to give spoilers away for people who don't want to know them :p) Quite frankly I think he felt rather pressured and a bit railroaded by Peyton. Eventually he brought himself to a place where he simply relaxed and went with it, and like he told Stella, ended up enjoying it. But until after 'Silent Night'? no. And that opening scene could have been so much more had Zuiker simply listened to Gary, and not included then.

Re: Mac #9: new thread title

I so agree with everything you said Jade. I mean, when i saw it i was like ''who is this?'' they could of least shown the relationship building up at some point instead of cutting right to the bed scene because i think the audience just made assumptions from that and then some didn't like her character from then on. The opera scene? you're right, he looked like he was forced there. Mac doesn't like opera, he is jazz guy Peyton! duh . But it was funny when they flirted over the dead body he seemed to of relaxed to the idea of dating a co-worker . Wasn't it that deaf woman who made him realise? i can't remember the name of the episode it was now but do you think he would of went to London if the lab didn't blow up? because i think he thought this was the end of his life and he shouldn't take things for granted?.I felt really bad for him though in 'Times up' when he got the letter, Gary Sinise shown emotion in that scene and it looked perfect, great acting there .You said about flashbacks Jade, does this mean we are going to get a reminder in season 8 about her?

Re: Mac #9: new thread title

Basically in the s8 premiere, we're going to get flashbacks to the morning of 9/11, and apparently Mac surprises Claire with Opera tickets. See, my whole take on that, is that they are now playing off Mac's obvious discomfort at the Opera with Peyton because he was thinking back to Claire. Now, like I said, they obviously hadn't planned that particular backstory detail in s3, but it's really a nice continuity touch now.

yeah, the ep with the deaf family was 'Silent Night', and the mother in that one basically helped him realize how to talk to Peyton. Because at that point I think he'd realized what he needed to do on his end to make their relationship work, but just didn't know how to tell her. Oh and that deaf woman was soooooooooooooooo right! Gary/Mac does speak with his eyes! Whether it's anger, pain, humour, love.... it's all right there...! :adore::adore::adore::adore::adore:

Re: Mac #9: new thread title

Oh right thanks for clearing that up Jade  and he has gorgeous eyes that's how he speaks with them as well because you can't help but notice how good they look . :adore: :adore: :adore:

I agree with you everything you said Jade! :) I think the beginning of s3 was a bit of a rush (not that I'm complaining though...erm...Mac...) But on the screen yeah that didn't give a very stable and solid base to develop a relationship. It was alright thing in s3 that that I was very fond of but it brought a different side of Mac out so that I was pleased to see.

Also I soooo agree with you what you said about Gary! :) :) :)

Btw 'Silent night' was one of my most fav episodes in s3! ;)

YES! He indeed speaks with his eyes....gosh just a look into his beautiful eyes I'm lost! :adore::adore::adore:*daydreams*

But that was the whole point of the opening scene. season 2 ended with flack not doing so well, and they needed something to start the season off. they had alluded to him having relationships, but not him actually having a sexual relationship, just dates. Personally, I think (and I haven't seen the commentary, so this is pure speculation) but I think he was uncomfortable for one of two reasons: 1) He was uncomfortable being with someone other than his wife (this is gary) or 2) he was uncomfortable with Mac being with someone. you'd be uncomfortable too, if you weren't sure whether you wanted to be with someone so soon after your wife died. he wasn't sure if he was doing the right thing, and he's a very private man. Plus, it adds for a nice running sub-plot. It wasn't supposed to be anything serious, or a solid relationship. it needed to be lighter, something to add a bit of tension. I think it was supposed to show his character, like how he'd react (as well as how the audience would react) if he was in that sort of situation. it was a very nicelittle fling, but it wasn't going to last.

nah, i'm going to disagree here (again. I know. i see where you're coming from, but...). they mention the opera quite a few times throughout the series. I think the opera's more of a symbolic thing, like it symbolizes a solid relationship and the kind of person you are to sit through an opera. OR the
opera tickets
could show that that's the thing he does when a relationship's serious, because you never hear him mention anything about the opera to Aubrey or the other women he dated

HA!!!!!!!! :guffaw::guffaw::guffaw: sorry, but if you knew the things he's told about about himself and his wife and their relationship and his life in general, this is soooooooooooooooooooo not the case!!!! Read the interview he did for 'Bomb' magazine, and listen to the 'Fresh Air' interview done by Terry Gross (you can get it free off iTunes). Between just those two interviews he talks all about stuff - 20 min nude scenes on stage with someone other than Moira, the day-to-day drama of all of original nine ensemble members "jumping in and out of each other's beds", the saga that was him and Moira doing their own thing while he was in NYC with Malkovich performing True West and then "falling back in love with each other" when he'd go back to Chicago to visit, the fling that he and Angelina Jolie had while they filmed 'George Wallace'.... you get the picture ;) It always really amuses me when people think he's this up-standing guy who's like all pure and noble or something... he's a great guy and keeps what he does close, but he's no saint :guffaw: and he'd have no compunction of doing a scene where he and Peyton are simply sitting in the same bed with the implication of what they'd been up to. *snigger* just watch that scene with him and Angelina in 'George Wallace', or him and Molly Ringwold in 'The Stand', or bloody hell the opening scene with him and Madeline Stowe in 'Impostor' (oh god, that opening scene....!!!!!) No, it was most certainly not because he didn't to do the scene because he's married.... :p

As for your character interpretation, I suppose I can see where you're coming from. But I really doubt that he NEVER had sex with the other women he went out with before Peyton... what about that extraordinarily sly look he gave Stella in Jamalot when she asked him if it was fun, and he said, "The game or the date?" No, he's had his fun since Claire has died. good god it's been six years already by the beginning of s3...!!!! I think he was uncomfortable because of the long-term/serious nature that was part of the relationship with Peyton. I get the distinct impression that that aspect of it was a first since Claire, and it was the emotional commitment to someone other than Claire that he still had difficulty with... not with just having sex with someone... :p

Jade, you made good points there girl :D,George Wallace, well they were getting preety down and dirty there clothe on clothe   and The Stand, that was preety hot and Imposter? they deffinatly looked like it was 4play leading up to sex, and what about Ransom, he stood in front of another woman naked? omgggg what a view that would be  and a midnight clear? haha he looked naked then. I think it was because Gary thought she shouldn't of been introduced to the audience that way and like you Jade, i don't think he was celibate before Peyton, i mean my god have you see him? no words needed there!

All right, now I have to see all these things... thanks haha. yeah, i understand that. and i wasn't saying completely celibate (as taylorgirl said, look at him :drool::drool:) just that maybe those were more along the lines of one night stands and then never talking about it again, never seeing them again, deliberately going out of his way to avoid seeing them. and i totally didn't know about the whole "doing their own" thing thing while he was filming True West, or any of that... but in the meantime....
DAMN. he got Jolie? good for him....
EDIT: so I just read the Bomb interview. Loved the introduction, especially what he said about women having reckless crushes on him :D:D:D:D:D, but not once does he say anything about any of that. he had quite a few interesting things to say about acting, though. and he went out of his way to say that there was relatively little dirt to be had on him, and moreover, that he didn't care.
okay, i realize that i was wrong in aboout six different ways about him though.
