"Loco Motive" Discussion **Spoilers**

-Catherine had the fit of the giggles at the scene. I could some what see the humor...but...to giggle? Just a tad confused with her reactions.
"stargoddess" posted on another forum that it might be the writers' way of showing the different ways on how the CSIs cope with their jobs, and the scene showed the contrast between Grissom and her: "Catherine was focusing on the humor of the situation as one of many coping mechanisms the CSIs undoubtedly have to get through their jobs, and I think it was a good way to indicate that whatever coping mechanisms Grissom uses are not quite doing the trick at the moment." Or maybe it was simply to show that the CSIs also have a sense of humor, that they do have their trippy moments, that laugh at things that they find funny.. just like us ordinary people.

That might be similar to the way Hawkeye used to use humor during the war on M*A*S*H to keep from really going crazy.

they've had serial killers re-surface like a series after it first aired. so they might do that with this one. As for greg and nicky I don't think they'll make a good pair. nick and warrick work really well together though

Yes, similar, but Catherine was just laughing. Hawkeye would make jokes, and make jokes, and make jokes, and so on.
Glad to see someone else likes M*A*S*H. :)

At least Catherine was a little light-hearted... but Sara seemed like she didn't have a clue about what was going on with Grissom, which struck me as odd. Wouldn't she know a little more about him by now, or was she just waiting until later to talk to him?

I'm wondering if it isn't that Sara and Grissom are just too much alike in their lack of people skills. It seems to me right now Sara and Grissom's relationship is about trading snarky remarks, especially since Happenstance and the whole "sitting on a pumpkin by myself/misanthrope" thing. I'm beginning to wonder if something isn't going to hit the fan when he finally does tell everyone he's leaving. He'll probably just wait and tell Sara along with everyone else, because he'll think that's the practical way to handle it, and that will tick her off because she'll think she deserves to be told separately.

I absolutely loved the Max storyline in this episode. It was hilarious. You want to feel sorry for the guy. Then I saw the way he handled himself throughout the whole episode. I mean if it was just bad luck, why hide his identity from the police? Why make a bet with Brass? The scene where Catherine was trying to take his fingerprints, he was asking for a foot soak. Makes me feel not so sorry for him. Still, I couldn't help laughing. In a situation like this, you can either handle it like Catherine and laugh or handle it like Grissom and mope.
The other storyline annoyed me to no end. I've noticed that everytime they drag a plot over two episodes they drop the ball. Paul Milander kills himself. The serial rapist guy from the LVU campus, the one who worked with a partner, he killed himself too. Kelly Gordon kills herself. Ernie Dell kills himself. Seeing a pattern? It's as if the writers can't come up with any other way to tie up a story arc. And this one is by far the most irritating. The motives for the killings are so vague. Why did he kill these three people? Izzy because of the PSA? Penny because she broke his heart? (This would explain how in the scene we see Penny die, it looked as if her killer twirled her into the window.) So what was the motive for killing the final victim? What was the significance of the picture of the dead doll? They may as well not have had this storyline in the episode for all the good it did.
On the plus side, I really loved Warrick and Nick working together again. I loved that little girl, she was so sweet. Warrick has a wonderful way with children. I melted when he called the little girl a princess.
Doc was all snippy with everyone. Getting all cranky in his old age that man I gotta tell you.
Hodges. Oh boy, when he started going 'woo woo' right next to Grissom I nearly jumped out of my skin. Had it been a younger, fitter CSI, Hodges would have probably earned himself a punch in the face. But it was a classic scene though and one that is going to stick with us for awhile yet.

I loved the episode, but was excited that Sarta's getting lines again. Also, i was kind of sad at the end, by just the hurt look in Grissom eyes. But overall an awsome episode!!!

It was a good episode with a few 'off points' for me. one was the whole slapstick bit with that poor guy who couldn't win for losing. I think they overdid somewhat the off-the- wall cinematography and the slightly goofy music. But that's just me. Otherwise yes,a good episode with the usual great work by all the actors. At the start of the episode wasn't both Catherine and Gil laughing? Cath was laughing at the poor shmuck in the cement and Gil couldn't help but chuckle at her reaction to the scene. I thought though the 'Miniture Killer' was going to be stretched out through January. I guess that is when Liev Schreiber will sub for Billy Petersen.

I agree with the opinion that the storyline isn't over.

It's too neat and simple, plus why would the guy top up the disposable cell phone when he was going to top himself because SWAT only just missed stopping him.

If the case is over, there was nothing to stop him just emailing Grissom (how do they get the email address anyway???)

Looking forward to 2007.........hopefully the next CSI will be just as good.......

Have a good Christmas folks

Okay untacking this, I left it up a bit longer since the next ep is a repeat and nothing new til January 4, 2007.

Please feel free to continue the discussion. :)

I don't believe the serial killer storyline is over personally.

The killer is careful enough to pay for a cell phone with cash and then makes the mistake of adding minutes with his credit card?

And why buy these minutes if he intends to off himself?

I like how it appears to be wearing on Grissom.

This would be the perfect story to prompt his departure from the show (rumor is WP is thinking of ending his part in the series).

If he takes his sabatical and returns only to find yet another model... that would be too much for most anyone.

The conclusion of this story would actually make a great season finale I think...

Question--there was a moment when Nick found a substance resembling hair gel behind the ear of the elderly lady that Max killed (not his wife), and that her dentures were put in backwards--which initially gave me a major "oh no" moment. We learned later why the dentures were put in backwards, but what was the stuff in her hair, did it turn out to be the lime jello from his wife's murder scene, or did they gloss over that?

One thing that wasn't explained to me--I understand Dell's connection to the guy killed at the chicken plant and to Izzy Delancy, but I don't understand his connection to the liqueur swilling old lady. That one made zero sense to me in the context of the crimes. This makes me think that the storyline is definitely not over with.

Of course, I can also see how the webcam gunshot would fuel Grissom's burn out and lead to his departure for a few months as well.

If anyone can explain the old lady's conenction I'd appreciate it.

Yes that was the lime jello, and they followed the lime jello to the other apartment (murder scene).
