List of songs deemed inappropriate following 9/11.

Recently found this list on Wikipedia, and thought it was pretty intresting. Some f the ongs made sense but some were rediculous.

So here's the list:

This is a list of songs deemed inappropriate by Clear Channel following the September 11, 2001 attacks. In the days following the attacks, many television and radio stations altered normal programming in response to the events. During this period, Clear Channel Communications and its subsidiaries had established a list of "songs with questionable lyrics" that stations may not want to play after the attacks. This list was distributed by the independent newsletter Hits Daily Double.[1] John Hogan, president of Clear Channel, stated that the list was only a suggestion, and "never a policy or a directive."[2]

Snopes did research on the subject and concluded that the list did exist as a suggestion for radio stations, but not a ban on the songs in question.[3]

The list contains 165 songs, not including "all songs" by Rage Against the Machine and Slayer[citation needed], and songs done by multiple artists (for example "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" by Bob Dylan and the same song by Guns N' Roses).

Clear Channel distributed the list including the songs below.[3] The songs are listed alphabetically by artist. The compiled list had been the subject of much media attention around the time of its release.[citation needed]

This list has been criticized -- and its very existence debated -- over some of the songs which were placed on the list apparently only because of certain words appearing in the title, or because of content. For example, The Beatles song "A Day In The Life" is on the list, though there is only a minor car crash mentioned; but the song "I Am The Walrus" is not, even though there is a "stupid, bloody Tuesday" mentioned (September 11, 2001 was on a Tuesday).

Interesting, but totally rediculous list. How far-fetched are Live and Let Die, What a Wondeful World and New York, New York for example. I guess Live and Let Die would also be inappropriate because of all kinds of wars then

Whoever made that list had way too much time on their hands

A few of these songs I can understand, i.e. Alanis' "Ironic" for the plane crashing lyric, but most of them are ridiculous. I find it kind of funny that songs that reference 9/11 specifically aren't on there, i.e. 50 Cent's "Patiently Waiting"

I thought the songs like Ruby Tuesday or Tuesday's Gone didn't deserve to be on that list at all. Even we Gotta Get Out of this Place is stretchng it a litt.e

Whoever made that list had to much to drink IMO, give me a break some songs I can see but please alot of them should be fine.

It just goes to show how crazy this place was immediately following 9/11. I can't tell you how many times I heard Imagine on the radio right afterward. Good think I wasn't listening to ClearChannel.

CSI_Wearden rather than double posting you can edit your first post within 24 hours, also please add a little more content to your posts, as this is a discussion board. Thank you. :)

Who cares, honestly? They're songs. The majority of them were written well before 9/11. The people who made this list have way to much time on their hands and just needed something to complain about. So dumb. If a person doesn't like the songs, don't listen to them, and get off your soapbox because no one really cares, kthnx.

Stupid list.

Like people are going to call a radio station and say "ZOMG the song you played that was written 30 years ago OFFENDED ME!" ...

And none of those songs deserve to the on the list. Most of them are classics, and they're excellent songs. Who cares about the content of some of them? If they think it's so bad, don't listen to the radio. :p

The people who made the list up have way to much time on their hands. They need to get a life. I think if people don't want to listen to a song that is being played they will changed the channel or turn the radio off. Why should a song not be played because it my offend a few.
