Help! How do I upload an avatar? -- Tutorial

I Thought wrong :lol:
Right so far I've....
1.made over 100 posts
2.gone to my home page
3.went to personal info
4.clicked edit
5.went down to the box and pasted my URL
6.Then a message came up saying incorect type or something so I changed my pic from .JPEG to .PNG and uploaded it to photobucket again.
7.repeated 6
8.that stupid message came up again

What am I doing wrong

 

Could you send me your icon? I'll have a look, perhaps we'll get it
