HONOLULU (AP) — A representative for Alex O'Loughlin says the "Hawaii Five-0" star is taking time away from the show to get treated for problems related to pain medication.
Rachael Wesolowski says in a report by the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that O'Loughlin " is taking a short break to receive supervised treatment for prescription pain medication due to a recent shoulder injury."
Series producer CBS Television Studios and O'Loughlin representatives declined to comment on the nature of O'Loughlin's injuries or his treatment.
O'Loughlin, who portrays crime fighter Steve McGarrett, is known for doing many of his own stunts on the action-packed show. The paper says he reportedly will be absent for at least one episode.
CBS says in a statement that "everyone at CBS Television Studios and 'Hawaii Five-0' wishes him well and we look forward to his return."
It's funny, a friend and I were discussing that Alex was looking a little leaner and a bit gaunt. Poor guy. Seems like a lot of actors get hooked on pain meds- I'm thinking Hollywood doctors get a paid a little too well to remember their Hippocratic Oaths sometimes. I know these guys are wanting to be able to keep working and take shortcuts on healing, but come on.
I haven't been disappointed per se, but that's because I didn't start watching until this season, so I thoroughly enjoy it still. I did however go back and watch all of Season 1 chronologically a couple of months ago, to make total sense of this season, and was really wowed by their original dynamic! In retrospect, I don't think there was any need to add the character of Lori, although I have nothing against the actress. The addition of Joe should have been enough, along with the resolution of Jenna's plot line. Oh well, it seems to be getting a little more "back to normal" these past couple of episodes, plus there is still some Shelbourne/Wofat issues and the NCIS cross-over to be dealt with in the next 6 episodes. Supposedly Alex will only miss one episode that is filming now, and it is apparently Max-centric so his scenes were few anyway we're told. I'm guessing the NCIS ones might be in the can already. I am really hoping for a strong end to this season though, and definitely a renewal for a third season! To be honest though, this show hasn't really been wowing me in a long time. I'm pretty much just watching it for Alex now, and the occasional banter between Steve and Dano. Otherwise, it's been kind of disappointing this season.
Hawaii Five-0, as previously announced, will tap into the past — namely, that of the CBS drama’s original incarnation — when Ed Asner reprises a role he first played more than 30 years ago. And TVLine has a first look at the seven-time Emmy winner’s encore.
In the episode airing March 19, Asner will again portray August March, who in the 1975 episode “Wooden Model of a Rat” was an up-and-coming world-class smuggler. When today’s Five-0 team needs advice on a case involving smuggled gems, they turn to March, who’s now living free after serving 30 years in the joint.
As an added call-back, the new episode will weave in original footage from Asner’s original guest-starring appearance.
Asked for his reaction upon getting the call to revisit a character he thought he had left behind long ago, Asner told TVLine, “It was a delight that I was alive to inspire the idea, firstly. And secondly, I was glad to have the opportunity to work on a top show like Hawaii Five-0 with [executive producer] Peter Lenkov, who I admire enormously.”
Plus, of course, there’s the perk of a trip to the Aloha State. “Yeah,” Asner acknowledged, “that’s always nice!”
MONDAY, MAY 14
10:00-11:00 PM HAWAII FIVE-0 – Five-0 goes on a manhunt when one of their own is killed in the line of duty.
This past week, I guess as Alex is taking off, Scott Cann was the leader in the episode. Max had to revist his past, and Kono finds the Shrimp Truck!
By the way, this old man doesn't read spoilers. That takes the fun out of watch the program!
