Chapter 4: Dinner and gentle kisses
Grissom led Sara to his Tahoe and opened the door for her. She smiled sweetly and stepped into the vehicle. Grissom then walked over to the drivers side, opened the door and got in.
He glanced toward Sara, who gave him a heart melting smile, the kind he used to receive. He missed those days, they used to laugh together and see a lot of each other. Oh how he wished he was still her professor.
Now, well now he never saw her. She had chosen to be in the FBI, and it was her decision, her life.
He started the engine and drove off. He had made reservations at the Bellagio, in a private area. He would be able to talk to her, without any curious stranger listening in.
Sara shifted slight in her seat. She felt Grissom's eyes on her. Her heart began arguing with her mind:
Those gorgeous ocean blue eyes just staring at me, oh god what am I going to do? I'm falling for him all over again. I'm gonna kill Culpepper, I had Gil Grissom out of my mind.
Yeah but you never did, did you?
I did, for a while but--
No you didn't you little liar, you've been in love with him all this time, you been dying for a chance to work a case in Vegas.
Well yeah, but...oh forget it, Gil Grissom is my heart's desire, I will never change that. Her heart won the war.
"Griss...I uhh...never mind."
"No, what is it?" Grissom replied softly.
"Nothing, honestly I'm fine."
"Sara..." He began, then slowed the car to a stop as he approached a traffic stop, "I know when something is wrong with my...you." He stuttered.
What was he going to say there? My girl? My woman? I'm reading way to much into this. "I'm fine." She said more persuasively.
"Alright, if you say so."
Grissom drove off again, Sara finally answered him:
"Do you ever miss the seminar days?"
"All the time. I was so...different back then. Not closed off and withdrawn for a start."
"You? Gil Grissom closed off and withdrawn?" Sara was shocked
"Uhh...yeah."
"Well that is a surprise."
"You don't know me in Vegas. It's been years Sara, I'm incredibly different now." Grissom pulled into the Bellagio car park. "You might not even want to know me."
Grissom slowed the car to a stop and killed the engine. Sara's eyes dropped to the floor then raised to him again:
"Yes I do."
Grissom fixed his eyes onto her shining chocolate brown ones. He smiled weakly. They then left the car and walked into the building.
A waiter showed them to a their table near the back of the restaurant. Sara's jaw dropped when she caught sight of it.
The table was candle lit. The plates were already set out and in the center, there was a vase containing a single red rose.
The waiter smiled and left them. Grissom stepped forward and removed the rose from the vase. He handed it to Sara:
"A single red rose, beautiful and enchanting. For a woman with equal if not more beauty and enchantment than I have ever seen."
"Griss...I...I..." Sara couldn't form a single sentence. She was so choked up.
"Shh, don't say anything. Sit." Grissom took her right hand, raised it and guided her to a seat.
The waiter returned with a notebook, ready to take their order:
"I'll have the lasagne please." said Grissom.
"And you Miss?"
"Are there any vegetarian specials today?"
"Why yes, there is a vegetarian meatloaf with a light salad and french fries."
"I'll have that please."
"Ok, your meal will be here shortly." The waiter left.
"You never told me you were a vegetarian." Grissom said with mock horror.
"How could I? Duh." She smiled.
"Let truth be told now you are here."
"Yes sir." They raised their already wine-filled glasses and clinked them together.
Their meal arrived soon after that and they ate. All the while reminiscing their past.
When they finished they ordered dessert—strawberries and cream.
When it arrived, Grissom asked Sara to sit beside him (It was a sofa like seating arrangement) and she did.
He picked up a strawberry, dipped it into the cream and held it up to Sara's lips. She took a slow bite and then raised her napkin to wipe away the juice, but Grissom stopped her.
He lowered her hand and then captured her lips in a slow kiss. Sara replied, slowly returning the what now was becoming passionate kiss.
They sat there for what seemed like an eternity, kissing like lovestruck teenagers. As they were in a private section of the restaurant, nobody saw them.
When they pulled away for the desperate need of oxygen, Grissom lay his forehead against hers. Sara gave a soft, breathless giggle, Grissom's lips curled into a grin.
Little did they know, someone did see them, and wasn't happy.
