No I don't think it's illegal. I mean if you buy a CD your allowed to make at least one backup copy of it. But probably not a lot of people abide by those rules. If it was illegal burning them I don't think computer places like Dell & Gateway would put them on their computer
 
^ That is correct. You can burn backup copies for yourself. Copyright laws do not allow you to sell, rent, loan, or give them away.
