Episode #520 'Rush' ***CONTAINS SPOILERS***

If she's not going to feature in a future episode , what was the point of having those scenes in the episode to begin with...well, other than to capiltalize on the whole Britney Spears thing. If that was the only reason for those scenes being in there, well...I find that to be very sad.

Ditto.........it actually ruined the episode for me......it better be part of a bigger story or else it's just a cheap shot and that's not on imho.

On a positive note I liked the Delko storyline helping the girl see the positives of finally leaving rehab

this episode was definatley better thatn the last episodes
i.e. 'Triple Threat' 'A Grizzly Murder'
yea i think it was good and Eric was sooo sweet i wanted to cry almost!!

Our Britney look-alike looked nothing like her. With her hair at least. Once she shaved it all off, i saw that that she actually did kind of look like Spears.

Ok, my thoughts on the episode. First, thank TPTB that Horatio’s line wasn’t “That’s a wrap”. I would have screamed bloody murder if it was. His one liner wasn’t awful, and actually reminded me of the good old days when the one-liners weren’t so overplayed; they just were one-liners. And Horatio wasn’t overplayed either in this episode, only being in scenes that really required him. However, that being said, I still feel that the writer’s are having problems writing for a large cast show. It took four seasons for Rex Linn to be added to the credits, and yet I only saw him for less than ten minutes cumulative in the whole episode. They’re still writing for a smaller cast show, and it’s cutting back on some good character moments.

The opening of the episode was just fantastic. They made it look like something from a movie and not a TV show. It had me on the edge of my seat, and brought me into the episode all excited when the paced slowed down slightly. However, I found the reactions a bit weak when the crew discovered the victim in the car. I mean, this is a big movie star, the star of your film, the one that will hopefully deliver you all the pay checks when the movie hits theatres, and all you can do is say “Oh my God” in an almost monotone manner? No screaming? No panicking? No freaking out period?

Next, I must give mention to Eric, who was just fabulous in this episode. Not only do we get continuity with the gunshot, but we also see a bit of character development spring from it. When he was speaking with Jolene, and she was explaining how hopeless she felt, and how alone she felt, he saw a bit of himself in her. In the previous episodes, Eric has been on the defensive a lot, even though the others are just trying to help. I think that when he was speaking with Jolene, he finally realized that they were trying to help him, and by opening up with her, it allowed him to move past the defensive enough to admit that everyone else was just trying to help. Hopefully, this will result in less Eric opening up to the main cast a little more, because he hasn’t really spoken to them about the shooting, just Jolene so far. And we saw a bit of joyful Eric from the old days as he watches Jolene go home, which was just heart-warming. A round of applause goes to Eric from my end.

Finally, I move on to the Britney look-alike. At first, I was confused as to why she was just added in at the end. I thought “They’re just banking on the whole publicity thing” and “They couldn’t come up with anything better”. Then I started studying for my English exam, and I accidentally started analyzing the scene in my mind as if it were something for English. You have this pop star with a bad habit coming into the clinic to get rid of the habit. At the same time, we hear Natalia (omg cleavage!) and Horatio’s conversation about how everyone has a secret. The look-alike then starts to shave her head, and the conversation Horatio is having reminds us (or me at least) that Brody was trying to let go of his secrets, and make amends. Then it hit me; look-alike is symbolism! Her act of shaving off her hair is like someone taking the first step in letting go of their secrets, and if the clinic program is anything to go by, healing really begins once the secrets have been let go. So, just like Brody was coming out with his secret (and sadly was killed for it), look-alike is starting her healing process, and as we can see from the smile, she’s better for it. Had this scene gone anywhere else in the episode, it would have lost its impact and meaning, and would have been left as nothing but pointless filler.

I hope that made as much sense as it did in my mind (keep in mind that I thought this up last night). Anyways, since I’m really writing way too much, and I fear I may start to ramble, I’ll end my reflection here. It was a good episode, and a well thought out one. It had some flaws sure, but it was one of the better episodes of the season in my opinion. It gets a 9/10 from me. Ok, I’ll shut up now. :p

I liked that too.....Eric really seemed like he had some realizations with that storyline. I liked it a lot because his attitude was wearing on me.

The only positive thing I have to say about the episode is indeed Eric's realizations.. The rest I found pretty boring and very predictable. To me it's the worst S5 episode so far.

Now that I've had some time to sleep on it, here's my thoughts.

The first thing I have to say is that after last weeks big dissapointment (at least to me), this episode was much better.

thank TPTB that Horatio’s line wasn’t “That’s a wrap”. I would have screamed bloody murder if it was.
I second that!

For the whole bald singer chick thing, I'm actually glad the episode wasn't as blatently 'Britney Spears' as I thought it was going to be. Though... Miami seems to do a lot of 'false advertising' to draw viewers in.

I did like the the bits between Eric and that girl, Jolene. Also, I was quite pleased to find that this didn't feel like another episode of 'The Horatio Show'. He didn't completely take over like he usually does, and the show didn't close on him, which was a nice treat.

Overall, it wasn't a spectacular episode, but it felt to me like things are/were getting back on track.

My husband and I laughed about the Spears look-alike too. If my memory is accurate, it seems that the original spoilers for this episode did NOT include a Brittany look alike. Do you think they (tptb/writers) just added this bit after-the-fact or as an afterthought to capitalize on the publicity surrounding the whole Brittany fiasco?

Bird of Flame, you mentioned 'Brittany' shaving her head as symbolic for getting rid of her secrets.... actually I can see your connection. Unfortunately for the public, the real Brittany does not seem to have ANY secrets! Whether it's her misfortune or by her design, her whole life is an open book..uh, tabloid and actually the girl who was at the rehab center to get material for a role and who was all about publicity opportunities, reminded me more, in that regard, to the real Brittany. In fact, at first I thought she was going to be the look-alike Brittany and was having a really hard time seeing the physical resemblance.

Well, I will have to agree with the people that are saying that this epi was much better than some of the one's before it.

I also think it is weird, too, that all of a sudden the pairs are switching around. Ryan and Natalia? That was quite..different. Did Cal and H even talk to eachother?

The thing that really made the epi for me, though, was Eric talking to the Jolene girl. I loved how he told her with the "help of friend's and family, you can make it through." And he was talking from expierience, as you all probably know. I thought that was very sweet!

the whole Eric reflecting on his injury scene made me cry!!! i was just like awwwwww. and it was the first time ha talked about his injury and how he addmitted he messed up a bit and how he realized that he could do it but not alone. i'm glad he's finally come to terms with his injury. and H's oneliner was surprisingly...good!! now that's the good ol H we know and love!!!! and what is up with the wardrobe lately!?! i mean last week Eric was dressed in a suit and Ryan dressed like some old guy in retirement and now this week Ryan was in a suit and Eric was dressed well...like Ryan...and was it just me or did Calleigh's clothes look like they were made of leather? well her jacket anyways.....and
the promo for next week made me go OMG!!!!!! ERIC AND CALLEIGH ARE GONNA KISS???!!?!?!?!?! i'm so excited...even though I'm a CaRWasher!!! this is gonna be huge!!!!

Agreed. Those scenes were easily the high point of the whole episode for me. Adam Rodriguez was wonderful in those scenes as was the young lady who played the rehab patient, kudos to them both. :)

I loved Adam in last night's episode. He was sweet and caring, and showed the audience that his injury is not going away.

On another note, I'm glad that Horatio's one liner wasn't too bad.

Ryan was avoiding Alexx in the autopsy room. He changed the subject and avoided the question, "Have you ever seen someone go through a detox?" His eyes also showed some pent up emotion. Who knows about what though.

I forgot to post this yesterday.

Aw man, Eric was talking about him getting shot. And being scared to come to work. Serisouly, that man had me choking up and tearing up and everything. :( *wipes tear away*

And there were so little scenes with Horatio, but i loved that one where he was talking to the janitor guy.

iforgethisname: Look, you can't pin this on me. I've been in the hotseat before.
Horatio: *with a glint in his eye* Then get comfortable.
[commercial break]

Omg that was a good scene.
