[KAYE SULLIVAN] A new CSI, attractive, funny, extremely sexy, late 20s to early 30s female. Takes risks. Just two years out of graduate school with a degree in forensic science. Eager to learn. Asks a lot of questions. This is her dream job and has an unwavering and apparent desire to learn as much as possible. Her textbook knowledge eliminates any impression that she's just a rookie...SERIES REGULAR
...Intriguing. :vulcan::p

Sounds like the show decided that it could live with one detective, but wanted to expand the labs, similar to Vegas, which has a whole roster of lab rats. Series regular doesn't necessarily mean she'll be in every episode, she could be more like Adam and Sid in that regard.

And of course she hasta be extremely sexy, NY don't do things any other way . Hope she's not just a love interest for someone (but hey, was Claire Forlani considered a regular in S3, for example...?) Does sound like a mix of how Lindsay was perhaps once intended to be, and a CSI version of Criminal Minds' Reid. Guess Sheldon won't be the only genius in the labs. Could be it's a way to see more of Adam in different capacities. At least I hope we'll see more of him, and not less. I also hope she's an improvement on Kendall.

Bringing her in as a 'series regular' could also simply be a way to just lock in some of the costs for the season by having her on a contract that lays out the details of her involvement. Who knows if it will be comparable to what Emmanuelle ever got in terms of compensation. It does sound like it could be wide open and that they don't necessarily have a specific shortlist of people in mind.

I also hope we're not losing a main cast member. Well. Aside from mebbe one. But I daren't let myself hope they're gonna go that way :p. It would grievously suck a** to lose any one of the other main cast members, and have the show trade off Angell and a core star for an unknown lab tech. Right now, I just can't see it going that way. I'm not yet convinced this is what's underway. Guess we'll see.

As always, lacking enough information to really ever know wtf is going on. Looking forward to hearing more. ...And so the games begin again :p

Can I just ask why people assume the new person would be a lab tech? the description says a new CSI not a new lab tech. Adam and the other lab rats are not classed as CSIs.

That confuses me too. They wouldn't say "CSI" if they meant a lab tech.

I dunno I don't think they'd want to replace a well loved character right off the bat with a new one without testing her out first to see how the audience responds.

And lets face it, this character sounds a lot like Lindsay so it's natural to come to the conclusion that Kaye would be replacing her. But, like it or not, Lindsay and DL do have a lot of fans. So to kill her off as a new wife and mother and then replace her with the younger, "sexier" version of her character could turn a lot of people away.

Not really. Let's face it--the departure of Gary or Melina might cost the show some fans, but none of the secondary cast would, probably not even Danny, who's a fan favorite. At the end of the day, a lot of the viewers are just people who tune in to see a good mystery week after week. Jorja Fox's departure didn't affect the ratings of CSI; it wasn't until William Petersen left that the ratings really started to slide. And Jorja was a fan favorite, which Lindsay isn't really.

I'm still skeptical of this casting call--why cut Emmanuelle for budgetary reasons and then add a series regular?

That being said...new female CSI, yeah, I'd worry about Lindsay. Well, not me specifically ;) --if the show gets rid of Lindsay, it's a win in my book.

Also, this is just the first casting call. Her character could change a lot by the time we actually see her on screen so who knows?

True, Linday's original name was something like Sunny Hamilton or something like that.

I've read some of you guys/gals write about this new character like she'll be a lab tech, but the announcement-spoiler thingy indicates she would be a CSI. More like Danny, Stella, etc than Adam. Or am I missing something? Does "a new CSI" also refer to lab techs? Just got a little confused :).

Either way I think it would really suck for them to bring someone new after Em was let go because of money. I have to agree with all of you who've said that and also with it not looking very well for the rest of the cast members. Then again if someone does gets killed off then it won't be because of budget since he/she would be replaced, right? Maybe someone deciding to leave the show? Unless the newbie is payed less because she is an unknown and not an established name like our cast members and so they can save themselves some $$. Ugh, I got all thoughts tangled up!:shifty:

EDIT: Poppet and PerfectAnomaly I just read your posts. Seems we share the same confusion...:)

This is true, and I did hit on that "not afraid to take risks" bit in the description. Maybe I just thought Adam was perpetually overworked

Be fair. Lindsay has a lot of fans and she is quite a few peoples' favorite. I get that she's not so popular here but this isn't the whole fandom either. ;)

Either way, wasn't it John Dove that said everyone was coming back? So I'm not worried about this new character being a replacement for anyone.

I agree though, it is sketchy adding a regular while facing budget cuts but there is the possibility that a) this will be a new actress and her salary will be less than EV's and b) by putting her under a contract they can better control how much she'll get paid and raises (or lack thereof) and whatnot. EV is pretty popular and I'm sure her salary is pretty high so to get her on contract to be a regular they'd probably have to offer her a lot more than a new up and coming actress. That's just speculation on my part though. I'm not extremely familiar with how the industry works

I went with the lab tech theory because of her going to graduate school, which follows college, and is more in line with scientist than cop. Maybe I shouldn't have used the "lab tech" term but rather scientist. Is the Crime Scene Investigator job title specifically for people who go through the Police Academy? What I find most interesting is the idea that the franchise is perhaps acknowledging the huge amount of young people going to college for forensic science as a result of watching these shows. The field of forensic science is hot amongst colleges, even our local highschools now have forensic science as an option for science electives for teenagers.

If the blurb is accurate, then I guess we misunderstood the definition of budget cut. Cutting a smaller character in order to change the make up of the cast...not budget cuts because times are hard. Either that or someone is leaving of their own accord and the network chose to replace the position.

I wouldn't call Lindsay a "well loved character," though. Yeah, she has fans, but she also has plenty of people who can't stand her. And there are also a fair amount of DL fans who only like Lindsay because she's attached to Danny, IMO. I think Danny has more fans than Lindsay, so killing off his wife and the mother of his baby has huge potential for a lot of Danny drama. That's a good thing to a number of people. All of the characters have people who don't like them, but they aren't as vocal as the people who dislike Lindsay.

Also, I think this new character sounds an awful like what Lindsay was supposed to be and not what she turned out to be. There's a big difference. I also think it's pretty interesting they're adding a new character with a very similar discription of what Lindsay was supposed to be.

Also, this is just the first casting call. Her character could change a lot by the time we actually see her on screen so who knows?

Very true. I mean, "Summer Hamilton" was the first incarnation of what came to be "Lindsay Monroe" and she was absolutely nothing like what Lindsay turned out to be. Even the description of "Lindsay Monroe" turned out to be nothing like the character turned out to be. ;)

Lab tech and scientist are the same thing;)!

A CSI is normally a police officer although as Hawkes shows not necessarily. Although, since the character is in her late 20's early 30's she may have gone through the police acadamy before doing a specialist degree.

To be fair an background that doesn't add up means she should fit in perfectly with the others!

I am not sure that is something they want to highlight, it's something like less than 3% of people who take a degree in forensic science end up with a job in forensics. There are not as many roles in forensics as these shows make out and it is extremely difficult to get into.

EDIT: just had a thought maybe they are adding another female character to keep the balance if Anna is wanting to reduce her hours some more due to her children, so not loosing a character but having 2 part-time female CSIs type thing

You're very free to think that but like I said, just because she isn't well loved here doesn't mean she's not at other places. ;)

I for one liked Lindsay from the beginning before she and Danny got together. I mean, I didn't like Angell from the start and putting her with Flack didn't make me like her any more. And Flack IS my favorite. In my experience putting a disliked character with a well loved character doesn't make them any more popular, it just intensifies the dislike.

As far as the "buget cuts" go, getting rid of two characters (a recurring and a regular) to replace them with one regular would be more cost efficient. IMO, it would be especially cost efficient if the "regular" character they got rid of only worked part-time. ;)

I'm not denying that some people like/love the character. In fact I flat out stated there are people who do. But she is by far the most devisive character/actress on the show and that's not just here on this board. The dislike of Lindsay isn't limited to a few people on this board vs. the rest of the online fandom. And it certainly isn't limited to this board vs. a board where only people who like the pairing and Lindsay are allowed to post. ;)

Also, in my experience dealing with some (not all) DL fans, everything about DL relates back to Danny. Look at how much of the story line has been about Danny. Lindsay was nothing more than an incubator for the whole baby story line. If you put a blank slate of a character, which Lindsay is IMO, with a popular character people will like the blank slate more because they can make her whatever they want her to be. ;)

I didn't like Angell from the start and putting her with Flack didn't make me like her any more. And Flack IS my favorite. In my experience putting a disliked character with a well loved character doesn't make them any more popular, it just intensifies the dislike.

To me you personally disliking Angell because you ship Flack with Thirteen from House isn't really saying anything about Angell as a character or about putting a "disliked" character with a popular character.

If more people disliked Angell for reasons other than just her being with Flack that argument might be more valid.

ETA: Whoops! I double posted. Sorry about that.

I've actually taken a look around the net in the past few months and noticed that pretty much everywhere (save, perhaps, for fandom boards dedicated to the love of Danny and Lindsay ;) ) the split on Lindsay seems to be 50-50. Well, maybe not, 50-50, since it seems like plenty are indifferent to her. But she's certainly not beloved universally by any means. I was surprised to find Flack even had a few detractors! :wft:

I think by now we know plans change and sometimes things TPTB say get altered by the time the actual show starts--especially over the summer.

Well, if they wanted a new reg and did want EV, she would have been costly. So it sounds like they may have decided to add someone else, and get rid of a recurring and maybe a reg. I can't see how getting rid of a recurring character could cost the same as a reg's salary--even an unknown reg.

I for one liked Lindsay from the beginning before she and Danny got together. I mean, I didn't like Angell from the start and putting her with Flack didn't make me like her any more. There was no Lindsay before the pairing with Danny. The so-called tension was heavily featured in the first episode she appeared in, "Zoo York." I have seen very, very few fans of Lindsay who aren't also fans of the DL pairing. If you want to say Lindsay's popular, okay--but you should at least acknowledge why she's popular, and that's because she's paired with the show's resident sexpot. There really is no Lindsay outside of DL, which is why she's easily the most expendable. If Lindsay leaving/dying gives Danny a great storyline, it will probably happen.

All that said, I'm still not sure I buy that the show is casting a new regular weeks after it came out that Emmanuelle Vaugier was let go for budgetary reasons. I mean, how pissed would Emmanuelle be? And rightfully so.

I don't think it bodes well that so many of y'all have immediately seen this new character as a potential love interest - if she's a series reg (especially if she's a series reg), I really hope that's something they're going to intentionally avoid. I agree that she sounds like a big-ole Mary Sue, but then most of the characters on the show probably sound like that in a description.

I dunno. I remain a bit skeptical, but I guess we'll see as the summer goes on and we get more information.
