CSI Award Nominations/Wins Discussion

This thread is to discuss award nominations and recognition for CSI: Crime Scene Investigation (the original). :)

As much as I'm annoyed that shows like CSI don't get nominated for the biggies like Best Drama/Best Actress ect. I have to admit that quite frankly, CSI didn't really deserve to get a big nom this year. Season 10 was a bit of...yawnfest in terms of acting. But, if shows like Glee can get a nom for Best Actress of a Comedy, CSI should have gotten a little bit more than a nom for the awards that are handed off during commercial breaks.:(

To me it just seems like there is way, way too much out there these days for awards like this to really mean anything. I mean, with all of the hundreds of cable channels now with tons of original programming, there's too much competition. Hardly any network shows get recognition anymore.

You can't really compare comedy and drama. Apples and oranges. But, remember what Grissom said, comedy is hard. The comedic actors who do it well make it look easy, and effortless. And, 'Glee' and 'Modern Family' are 2 great shows, both with great ensembles.

The dramatic actors nominated are all in character driven shows, which eliminates CSI immediately. If WP didn't win one, no one will, since he was as close to a unique character, and icon, as CSI will ever get. But even WP didn't want to make it all about him, a la 'Monk' or 'House', so the show can continue without him.

I agree with Smokey. There are just so many good dramas out there now; the competition is huge, and the cable shows will always have an advantage since they have more freedom in their productions. CSI use to have an edge, often famous for its darkness and its graphic nature, but there are a number of edgier shows now.

I applaud the artistic directors and crew who are nominated. They work as hard as anyone else, in front of or behind the cameras, and they deserve to be recognized. They continue to challenge themselves, and it shows. I thought the opening of 'Family Affair' was awesome, maybe even the highlight of the season.

I agree with this. The other drama shows are usually driven solely by one character - often one that the show is named for (House, Dexter, The Good Wife, etc). The only way I can see an ensemble-based, procedural show getting nominations in the acting categories is for a truly outstanding performance that really goes against the norm of the show. Or for a great guest spot (which I think Bill Irwin should have been nominated for).

Besides the technical and make-up categories, the only one I can see the show getting nominated for again in the future is Best Drama. These last few seasons were very chaotic thanks to the writer's strike and the cast shake-ups. But with new writers coming on board and hopefully the majority of the cast is staying without any new additions, it's possible for the show to get a fresh breath of dramatic air.

(And I'm actually happy about Glee. Since my initial viewing - and mocking - it's become a guilty pleasure)

Da shows should get nominated. Their da best crime drama show on CBS,csi:Miami is da #1 show dat they have rite now followed by csi & csi:ny.

The material given to the CSI actors are not enough for acting awards. Look
at LF. He's a great actor but didn't receive a nomination. And Marg too, who had a lesser screentime this passed season. I believe she received nominations from earlier seasons of CSI; she won award from her previous show.

CSI definitely has a bigger chance of nominations and wins on technical awards.

I guess you're right, Smokey. It just gets a little annoying to see shows get more noms because they're new or whatever else. CSI could win Best Drama if the voters/committee would just give it a chance.

True. :) And from our own CSI Files (source: Futon Critic):

The nominations are out for the 2010 Primetime Emmy Awards, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was recognized in two creative arts categories: the season ten premiere, “Family Affair”, was nominated for “Outstanding Cinematography For A One Hour Series” and “Outstanding Special Visual Effects For A Series”.

But did you see some of the people that got nominated? Are they really better than the actors on CSI?
Dunno which ones, specifically, you're referring to, but I would give Michael C. Hall any award he's nominated for . . . and then some. His work in "Dexter" is absolutely riveting (and I thought he was pretty darned good in "Six Feet Under" too).

Equally amazing is Edie Falco on "Nurse Jackie"; she doesn't exactly have me asking, "Carmela who?" . . . but close. "Nurse Jackie" is what I expected "Grey's Anatomy" to be, but fails miserably at, IMO.

Frankly, I don't see anyone on "CSI" coming anywhere near those two (and I love all the actors on "CSI"; I just don't think their work, as written, compares). I think that may be the main obstacle "CSI" faces; like "Law & Order," its shows aren't written in a way that generally appeals to Emmy voters. There's a famous story about Jerry Orbach complaining -- facetiously, of course -- to Dick Wolf: "Why don't you have my partner die in my arms, so I can win an Emmy?" He knew Wolf would never allow an "NYPD"-style episode to be written for the mothership. The closest they ever got was Season 6's "Aftershock" . . . and that was a one-off episode whose style was never repeated in the series' 14 subsequent seasons.

Poor CSI...It seems to me that all you need to be nominated at the Emmys these days is to show some skin and be on a cable network. In the drama category anyway. Comedy is a whole different bag of chips. I guess if CSI wants to get nominated for Best Drama anytime soon...someone's going to have to get naked or CSI will be making a move to a cable channel.

Unfortunately CSI's time has passed.CSI was nominated for best drama series three years in a row in the past so I don't think that it will ever be nominated again in this category.

Maybe you're right, Grissom rules. But...what about changing categories? CSI comedy anyone? It would be hilarious to watch but it would probably mark the final frontier for CSI.

Had to go searching to find this thread.

For those interested CSI won in Monte Carlo again. :) Doesn't say who, if anyone was there. Last year I believe CM accepted via video.

Monte Carlo TV Festival

In the TV Audience Awards, CSI: Las Vegas earned the 'Best Drama TV Series' title,

Maybe not for CSI on LF, but in his career he's won 17 awards, and been including a Emmy, a Tony, a Golden Globe etc. & has been nominated for 26 awards including an Oscar for best actor in "What's Love Got To Do With It". He pretty much tops out on the rest of the cast and what they've won. Maybe that's why he wanted to go back where he is highly honored, and wins accolades/awards. I don't remember any of the CSI's really winning an individual award maybe as an ensemble if they have then I don't remember:confused:
