Criminal Minds #4: We Take Care Of Our Own!

The seven-year itch for Jane Lynch's return to Criminal Minds might finally be over.

Lynch hasn't appeared on the drama as Reid's (Matthew Gray Gubler) schizophrenic mom Diana since the fourth season, but we are thisclose to a mother-son reunion in Season 11. "Now with Glee finished and [Lynch's new show Angel From Hell] is on CBS ... I don't think that will be a problem," executive producer Erica Messer tells us. "We absolutely want her back. I've talked to Matthew about it. We've got to find a reason to bring her back because I don't want it to be unrealistic or just to have her. And we want to be able to use her well too."

Diana was last mentioned in Season 9, when Reid received a postcard from her about her supervised trip to the Grand Canyon. "She was doing well last we heard, which is great," Messer says. "But often with the drama shows, you need a dramatic reason that she's back, so we're going to figure that out first. But I think she'll come back and play again."
It would be very cool to see Lynch reprise this role again... as long as it doesn't bring more tragedy to Reid's life :(

That's sucks! That show probably won't last ( Grandfathered). It sounds like a horrible show.
I really hope that Jane Lynch makes an appearance. I really liked that character.

LAST MAY AND COMING UP, ON CBS…

SEASON FINALE: Kate Callahan’s niece, Meg, and her best friend, Markayla, were kidnapped, and the BAU discovered that the girls were targeted by an online predator who posed as a teenager in order to traffic them to serial killers. The team was able to track down the kidnappers and rescue Meg, thanks to Markayla’s information following her escape. Also, Kate resigned, telling Hotch she wanted to spend time with her children, and Reid learned that J.J. was pregnant.

COMING UP: The 11th season begins with the BAU interviewing different candidates to join their ranks in the wake of Kate’s departure, including a forensic psychologist, Dr. Tara Lewis, who is eager to assist their efforts. Also, the BAU hunts for a serial killer who leaves behind distinctive evidence that points to someone intent on revenge. Aisha Tyler joins the cast in a recurring role as Dr. Tara Lewis. @CrimMinds_CBS

Criminal Minds first look: Aisha Tyler joins the BAU

The BAU will welcome a new addition when Criminal Minds returns this fall — and EW has the exclusive first look.

In the wake of Jennifer Love Hewitt’s departure, Archer actress and current The Talk co-host joins the drama as Dr. Tara Lewis, a forensic psychologist who introduces an entirely new element to the long-running show. “The people in the BAU are analyzing these unknown subjects trying to catch them, but my character analyzes them after they’ve been caught to make sure they’re competent to stand trial,” Tyler teases.

“Every time we introduce a new team member, we want to make sure that they’re worthy of being a part of this elite criminal unit,” executive producer Erica Messer says. “She brings a different skill set than anyone else we’ve had. Once we’ve done our job and the bad guy is put away, she’s seeing what makes them tick once they aren’t hiding and running anymore. It’s really a cool sandwich to what our team does. It’s been a fun skill set to bring to the team, and one that we never thought we needed, but now that we have it, we love it.”

In taking on the role, however, Tyler “wanted her to look really different than how I look on The Talk,” she says, hence the new ‘do for the show. “It’s great because I get to do field work, I get to run around, wear a vest, wear a gun. She’s someone who has gathered a lot of evidence about the psychological makeup of the sociopath and she’s now bringing that knowledge into the field to help catch bad guys.”

Ask Ausiello

Question: Will Einstein return on Criminal Minds? –Emilie
Ausiello: There are no plans at this time to bring back the forensics whiz (played by Aquarius‘ Candace Hammer) that Reid met in February — though Matthew Gray Gubler is currently “hopeful” that his brainiac lands a(ny) new girlfriend “in the future.” Alas, neither has the crime drama been able to follow through on its wish to revisit Reid’s mother, now that Hollywood Game Night host Jane Lynch also has a new comedy (Angel From Hell) on CBS’ fall chedule. As show boss Erica Messer laments: “We never seem able to get her!”

Ooh, looks exciting! :D I think Aisha Tyler is pretty great, so I'm looking forward to seeing her character in action on CM.

Don't know could I wrote this here, but today because of huge boring time I watched series finale of CM: SB and I think why they didn't resolve the cliffhanger in Criminal Minds in 2012? Series finale was intence especially last minutes so I wondering.

I never saw Suspect Behavior, I didn't know it ended on a cliffhanger. It's too bad the original didn't offer some sort of closure, but I guess since it's a different show...

TV Line fall tv spoilers
Showrunner Erica Messer believes the show's audience of 11 years is ready for a "much more serialized" season, so this year's kicks off with an investigation into "The Dirty Dozen," a network of hit men that will be "a heavy thing" for Hotch et al to investigate, and a story "that really won't culminate until the end of the season." ("It's a crazy arc," says cast member Matthew Gray Gubler. "It's exciting, spooky, team members might be in peril…. Fun stuff as always!") Speaking of the team, Kate is of course gone and JJ (like portrayer A.J. Cook) is still on maternity leave, so Aisha Tyler will temporarily step in for the latter. "Aisha is such a smart person that playing a really smart character (psychologist Dr. Tara Lewis) is obviously second nature to her," says Messer. Notes Gubler: "Comedians make the best dramatic actors, and that's true for Aisha especially."

BONUS SPOILER!: Amber Stevens will return as Rossi's daughter Joy in Episode 7, "so that will be a fun thread to pick up," says Messer. "We would love to have her on a couple times a year."

RETURN DATE: Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 9/8c (CBS)

Hopefully this year's season-long arc will work out better than last season's. That one just felt unnecessarily dragged out and didn't have enough consistent build up IMO, then BIG DRAMATIC FINISH that still felt strangely unsatisfying.

I'm curious to see how Aisha's character fits with the rest of the team, I'm sure she'll be great. :D I wonder if they're actually going to bring back former characters like Erica Messer teased at the beginning of the hiatus. I haven't heard anything to suggest it's actually happening. Paget would have been the obvious choice to bring back at some point, of course, but that's not happening. Anyway...

I like Rossi with his daughter, so I'm interested to see how that works out.

Still wary about those previous spoilers about another regular character leaving that MGG hinted at. I have preferences about who I'd rather lose, if it's going to happen anyway, but that doesn't mean I want anyone to go. ;) I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Well it's true that it's two different shows but it could be something like crossover and proper ending for Suspect Behaviour.
About spoilers? Hope that they put some episodes about this story and won't do something like in last season when 10x01 and then ending of 10x22 and 10x23 was in one case. I thought what the hell. Season finale was bad for me, 10x21 with Mr Scratch was stunning and this could be a season finale.

CRIMINAL MINDS

CRIMINAL MINDS revolves around an elite team of FBI profilers who analyze the country's most twisted criminal minds, anticipating their next moves before they strike again. The Behavioral Analysis Unit's most experienced agent is David Rossi, a founding member of the BAU, who is essential in helping the team solve new cases. The BAU team is lead by Special Agent Aaron Hotchner, a strong profiler who is able to gain people's trust and unlock their secrets. Other members include Special Agent Derek Morgan, an expert on obsessional crimes; Special Agent Dr. Spencer Reid, a classically misunderstood genius whose social IQ is as low as his intellectual IQ is high; Jennifer "J.J." Jareau, the team's former unit liaison-turned-profiler who handles motherhood and marriage with the same skill as she solves cases; and Penelope Garcia, the team's indispensible computer wizard who helps research the cases with her unique charm. Each member of the team brings their area of expertise to the table as the BAU continues its dedication to pinpointing predators' motivations and identifying their emotional triggers in the attempt to stop them.

Doesn't really give anything specific about what happens in the episode! Just probably what we could have guessed at happening when she came back...

Exclusive Criminal Minds First Look: Introducing JJ's New Baby!

The BAU's newest member is pretty adorable.

JJ will only make a cameo in the Season 11 premiere of Criminal Minds, as A.J. Cook is on maternity leave, but she brought along a very special guest: her new baby boy!

"You'll get to meet A.J.'s real little baby, Phoenix. Like what she did with Mekhai [playing JJ's first son Henry], she's having her actual child play JJ's child," executive producer Erica Messer tells TVGuide.com. "His name is Michael. Henry and Michael. Her whole family will be TV stars."

No word yet if Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler) will also be Michael's godfather, but in the meantime, check out these exclusive (and super cute!) sneak peeks of mother and child below.

Cook, who welcomed Phoenix in July with her husband Nathan Andersen, will return in the seventh episode. Season 11 of Criminal Minds premieres Wednesday at 9/8c on CBS.
