Childhood's End (official Syfy pages)

Written by Arthur C. Clarke and hailed as a revolutionary work of science fiction since its publishing in 1953, Childhood’s End follows the peaceful alien invasion of Earth by the mysterious “Overlords,” whose arrival begins decades of apparent utopia, at the cost of human identity and culture. The true implications of the Overlords’ arrival may be far more dangerous, however.

I've read the book - a long, long time ago so I don't really remember much.

The start if it brings back memories of "2001: A Space Odyssey". Where "2001" has the monolith on the moon "Childhood's End" had basically what's wrong in the world today - poverty, war, famine. The character's were great - Mike Vogel (Ricky Stormgren) and Charles Dance (Karellen) were excellent. The special effects were amazing. I'm glad it's the Syfy channel that doing it. For a book that was first published in 1953, the story does stand the test of time and it applies very much to today.
