Rosie O'Donnell Leaving `The View'
Apr 25, 10:42 AM (ET)
By DAVID BAUDER

NEW YORK (AP) - Rosie O'Donnell's stormy tenure on "The View" will be a short one. The opinionated host was unable to agree on a contract with ABC, and she'll leave the show in June.

"My needs for the future just didn't dovetail with what ABC was able to offer me," O'Donnell said in a statement Wednesday.

"This has been an amazing experience," she said, "and one I wouldn't have traded for the world."

O'Donnell has helped raise the ratings for the daytime chat show invented by Barbara Walters. But her outspokenness has caused almost constant controversy, including a nasty name-calling feud with Donald Trump that placed Walters squarely in the middle.

"I induced Rosie to come back to television on 'The View' even for just one year," Walters said. "She has given the program new vigor, new excitement and wonderful hours of television. I can only be grateful to her for this year."

Walters was frequently left to clean up the damage after O'Donnell. She did it most recently Monday, when O'Donnell was criticized for using bad language and attacking Rupert Murdoch from the dais of the annual New York Women in Communication awards luncheon.

"I would like to point out that Rosie's view is not always mine," Walters said. "I would like to say for the record that I am very fond of Rupert Murdoch."

   Good one Dynamo yipee I knew she'd put her big foot in her bigger mouth and it would eventually do her in.. she 'quit' and pigs fly... ABC was disgusted with her from the begining, and they are her boss.. and after that vulgar tirade at the "ladies media luncheon" and think the old straw that broke the camels back" was her downfall.. goodie.. she's a ..well, I won't go there.. Donald Trump must be fluffing his feathers.. and many others.. and the 'ratings' with who?

whether you like rosie or not, i dont think its appropriate to talk about another person like this. the show is called 'the view' and like it or not, she was hired to give hers. i think some of the controversy she brought up was important. i enjoyed the view more with meredith but i did like rosie too. she was hired for a year and she did a year, its not the big deal people want to make it out to be.

I use to like Rosie. I don't hate Rosie. I think she was bitter that her broadway was a flop. I knew it going to get her in trouble. She is taking the whole show.

I watch Jay Leno tonight, he told the audrience, (If I spell it right.) that Rosie is leaving the views and they clap and cheers that she will be going in June.

paris hilton in jail?? one can only hope...

laineygossip and dlisted (dont think i can link because of colourful language but you can find them if you want to read!) are reporting that the los angeles city attorney is asking that paris be sent to jail for 45 days because of driving without a license after hers was suspended for driving under the influence. i really hope she goes to jail, but im not holding out. people with money can get away with anything. but with the recent string of celebrity dui charges (there seems to be a new one every day!) they really need to start cracking down on this behaviour. so dangerous, so unnecessary. i say send hilton to jail! :)

thanks desertwind! the gossip sites i read arent exactly nice to the celebs they dont like, so i didnt think i could link it here. love the poll, 96% want her in jail! but it aint gonna happen *sigh* it would make a great series of 'the simple life'...

^^I might actually watch the 'Simple Life' if it showed Paris in jail! I can't believe she isn't there already. But, as you said, people with money seem to get away w/dangerous things.
Where I am from, it is an automatic 10 days in jail if you get caught driving on a suspended license...

wow, that is the greatest thing i have ever heard! that judge is my new best friend. my favourite is how she claimed she didnt know her license was suspended, but the pappies caught her on video driving this morning! now lets hope she misses her date to go to jail and gets 90 days. this should be interesting

I wish it were a wakeup call for all those bonehead celebrities that think they can get away with anything. It's about time they were cracked down upon, because you know they wouldn't go easy on a regular person. They shouldn't be treated any different.

I agree completely catey, I think 45 days is too easy. Just because someone is famous doesn't mean they deserve special treatment, given how rich she is you know she's going to pay the however much money to buy a better cell.

Is she receiving special treatment though..? I don't know how it works in the U.S., how much would a "regular" person get in the same situation..?
