I didn't know that the Blue Jays were tossing around the idea of getting rid of RIOS. To me, he seems to be an all around decent player with youth on his side. But be that as it may, if it means, in return, getting another big name player to help in the drive for a playoff birth in the 2008 season, do what needs to be done, even if its trading someone like Alex.

I just read though, that the JAYS signed shortstop David Eckstein to a one-year deal worth $4.5 million. Eckstein hit .309 for the Cardinals in 2007. Interesting sign!

I some how get the feeling that the Jays maybe trading away future salary increases with Rios. They may also feel that Reed Johnson is still a better player the Rios. Time will tell.

I hope the Eckstein deal isn't a waste of money. The Jays signed Royce Clayton to play shortstop in 2007 and what did they do but release him part way through the season. Eckstein's been around for a while and is a good shortstop so hopefully this will work this time.

I love Reed Johnson, and I am glad that he will be back to his normal self this upcoming season...after his back surgery last season, it really messed up his game play. I hope they don't consider trading him.

Wasn't Royce Clayton on a waver or something with the Jays? That he wasn't "Officially" signed on with the team? I dunno, I just know that there was some sort of special deal with him.

That's pretty cool, I must say. He's actually a native of the city I live in, and we have Goose Gossage Park here, too.
:)
Congratulations to Goose Gossage!

Jacobs Field Gets New Name .. The ballpark on the corner of Carnegie and Ontario streets that has been home to the Tribe since 1994 shall now be known as Progressive Field, by virtue of a 16-year naming rights pact the Indians have made with Progressive Insurance. - The agreement, announced Friday morning, calls for Progressive to pay an average of $3.6 million annually for the naming rights, which will expire in 2023.

Okay the old name had a nic calling it the "Jake", now its been mentioned that a new nic might be to call it the "Prog" :p I so don't like that nic for it, it just does not sound right.

I found when the Skydome here in Toronto was renamed the Rogers Centre I still call it Skydome. Or we sometimes call it the Lid. So maybe die hard Indian fans will still call Progressive Field the Jake. I still think of Cleveland and their old Mistake by The Lake :)

I was just at SkyDome (yes, I still call it that) just last week, for a college football game (yes, 2 American colleges playing in Canada, I still don't get it). I still remember some fellow Rutgers fans asking me how to get to the stadium. I always said "Look up, if you see a huge tower, you're going the right way".

Although I also refered to the SkyDome as the ConDome, due to the hotel rooms with two-way windows.

Anyway, I still can't believe this is the last year for Yankee Stadium. Although it will be sad to see the old one go, that stadium is falling apart, and we need a new one. I personally do not care if they sell the naming rights to the new one, as it does not have any history(yet), but selling the naming rights to the old one would be a sacrilege. As for the new stadium itself, the first time I saw the artist renderings, my exact thoughts were "This looks almost exactly like New Comiskey Park....... wait a minute..... this IS New Comiskey Park!"

WOW...did I hear right?? Is Troy Glaus traded to the Cardinals??? Maybe a blessing in disguise...seeing he is full of injuries...I dunno!

Well the regular baseball season starts in 1 weeks time. The Blue Jays are already feeling the injury bug. RHP Casey Jansen is already lost for the season with a shoulder injury and Scot Rolen may start the season on the DL with a broken finger. Oh well at least the Boys of Summer are almost back playing :)

I know what you mean, I can't wait to see if we get to have a snow out again lol.
I know there are a couple problems with the indians, David Dellucci was having soreness in his forearm, but I guess its coming along and he shouldn't be on the DL.

The Tribe claimed left-handed reliever Craig Breslow off outright waivers from the Red Sox and added him to the 40-man roster. Cliff Lee has been named the fifth Starting Pitcher.

Jeremy Sowers and Aaron Laffey have been optioned back to triple A buffalo. We get Andy Marte on the team, errors here he comes, but he is out of options. Aaron Fultz didn't make the team now there was a very bad pitcher.
Josh Barfield who played second base the first part of 2007 before hitting (no pun) a machnical problem will probably be optioned to Triple A Buffalo, but not without a fight, and that would be against Asdrubal Cabrera. I don't care for Cabrera, I like Josh but lol I don't get a choice in the matter.

Our opening day is March 31st against the Chicago White Sox.

Well the Jays Scott Rolens had surgery on his broken finger yesterday so he'll start the season off on the DL. Closer BJ Ryan is coming off Tommy John surgery so it sounds like he'll be starting the season off on the DL also :( The Jays start the season off in New York and the home opener is on the 4th of April. All I can say is thank god for the Sky Dome, oops sorry the Rogers Centre, because there is now way all the snow will be gone in a just under two weeks not with the way Mother Nature is going.

Destiny, I hope Josh Barfield makes the club . His dad Jessie was a Blue Jay back in his playing days and was a good player.

Yay!!!!!!!!!!! Baseball is here once again. I can't wait. I get to watch the Reds & Indians again. Mar 31st heh? Will have to try to remember that. LOL

I know what you mean and Josh and his father are best of friends too, he did an interview back on March 9th. Barfield banking on bouncing back in which he talks about watching his tapes with his father and getting advice and practice in. Josh also has a great sense of humor to. But from the looks of it he will be headed to Triple A and brought back up if needed, which is good because he has that option.

Here is what gets me in Grady, Travis, Victor, Ryan they have a bad time or low AVG and its a slump work it out without being removed from the game, but they removed Barfield from the game and brought in suppositly Cabrera till he could get back to form. The trouble with that being that most of his play time came in the late innings (8-9th) when it really didn't matter and or when they needed a runner. He's working through it was in the cages and like that. Then people are told that Barfield would be brought to spring Training to try and take back his spot at second base, but so far from all I have heard is that Josh will end up down at Triple A.

I think the problem is this you bring a guy in and he does this great great job and its late in the season, catch is they who are in awe of him suddenly expect him to perform like that all the time. Heck Hafner in 2006 was someone to be walked far more then allowed to hit, then he got his hand broke and was on down time, and then in 2007 he didn't do as well as 2006 and people are all to the point of wanting to trade him. All players have their one moment, half season, full season, and so on but to expect them to contain that into the next season thats an expectation that is unrealistic because injury, mental, what have you can really screw with them and when that happens its like the ground opened up and threw up bad karma on the person.

The Same is happening with Dellucci this season, last season he was pulled due to a hamstring problem and surgery that took him out of the season, and then for a week or two in spring training a sore forearm, but today he did pretty good playing. While I can see someone being pulled because of injury, pulling them completely or unless you need them is not a help its worse. But I give credit to these guys they take it and deal with it.

*Sigh* I see Trot Nixon got a reserved spot with the Diamond Backs, but what the cleveland fans are all wondering, what will happen with the pies? I mean seriously when it started people thought a couple times gag, then it because a custom, started by Nixon, and fans even stayed after the game just to see who was going to get hit with one. Now with Nixon gone, its well up in the air if it will even continue. :(

Yep, except the 31st of March were hosting the White Sox. you can get a printable Schedule Here or just pic a month Here to see who the indians are playing on what day. I think all team sites on the MLB.com have this same system. I already have my April to Sept printed out. :D But the Yankee's, Tigers and Red Sox seem to be the who will win it against the indians.

I'm not a follower of Baseball (cause I live outside of the States and Canada), but I'd have to say that I have a soft spot for the Toronto Bluejays... :D I'm hoping to catch a game when I come over later in the year. :D
