I like the idea.
Especially the two sections as theres loads of people here that can make amazing icons. I'm definately 'beginner' compared to them. Sound like fun. I'm trying to learn more about PSP.

I've been thinking, to enter the beginner challenge, I wouldn't consider the 'beginners' to be necessarily those who have just started to make icons. For example, I don't have PSP, but I have Photofiltre and I'm in no way a beginner, except there is a limit for how far you can go with the program. (Ie: No animations, no new text options, it doesn't come with brushes - You have to find them on your own) However, it's possible to make a pretty great icon with the right skills.

So, even if one doesn't have the pleasure or opportunity of PSP (Where even beginners can make some great icons) it gives the chance for those who have a lesser program, to enter the beginner challenge (Even if they're not beginners) and not be overshadowed by those with the fancier program. ;)

But that's just a suggestion on how to seperate the beginners from the more advanced Icon Makers a little more easily.

It is going to be a bit difficult to decide what section you should be in.

good point speed_cochrane. i don't have PSP, but a less expensive graphic program, which also has limited options. still, i think i'll be trying to compete on the advanced level.

I've seen some of your icons Adzix, and it's true, you are one of the more talented artists. (You deserve to be with the advanced artists) So I guess it also depends on whether one feels they are good enough. - Even with the less expensive program. :D

aww, thank you so much speed_cochrane. i'm also fairly new, started making icons about 2 or 3 months ago and i'm still learning. but i'm so glad someone agrees that i could be in advanced level already :)

Well, like I said earlier, hopefully people will be able to think for themselves which category they should be in ;)

I'm debating whether to go ahead with this and give it a try. On the one hand a lot seem keen on it, but on the other, I'm highly doubtful we will have enough entries for each category.

I will think on it some more and let you all know soon :) though I have another idea up my sleeve if this doesn't work out.

Heck you only live once, what's the harm in trying it out? But that's my opinion. I can't wait to see what your decision is, no matter what it may be. :)

And hmm...What is the next idea up your sleeve? I'm very curious now. :lol:

As you ask, I'll put it down in case people like this better :) I was thinking about setting up a LIMS (like the one going on over in Fan Art at the moment) for beginners/novices only. I thought that way, by people voting for 3 icons and posting their criticism on each one, people would improve their icon-making more quickly, rather than just have ordinary icon challenge where people vote their fave icons. See?

And by only allowiing beginners join...well, hopefully it'll seem less daunting than if advanced people were in it, and would want to join anyway to see how they can improve their icons. Hey, I might join in myself! ;)

We'd use glamour shots of famous actors and actresses, and use one for each round (again, same as the LIMS in Fan Art). And I wouldn't pin it to the top of the forum like the other challenge, otherwise things will start looking cluttered in here. But yeah, that's my other idea :) although I think I'd give the other one a try first if I do decide to do that .
