Re: Until we meet again
“Hey, Horatio! I saw that you were here. I’ve been trying to get hold of you the last few days to let you know I was coming home. I always got a busy signal, and you were never at work. Is everything alright at the …lab?” she trailed off as she put down her suitcase and looked at him. Horatio had walked down nearly to the bottom, and she could see his face clearly. “Is everything alright?” she repeated. Horatio cleared his throat in a vain attempt to move the lump as he opened his mouth to speak. “Yeah…Yelina?” He cleared his throat again, looking at her again, drinking her in. “How was your flight…to Brazil?” Yelina was confused, but she answered, “It was fine. We tried to call you when we landed, to let you know. We left a message on your voice mail, and a message at the lab…” She shook her head, “What’s this about? You didn’t get the message? You thought something happened?” She walked closer to him as she spoke. She looked at the pain in his face; his unshed tears shining in his eyes. “What, Horatio?”
Horatio looked down briefly, and then looked back at her. It hurt to look away. “You crashed…I thought you crashed. I received a phone call, that same night. A man said the plane crashed before it ever arrived. There weren’t any survivors. You were all dead.” Emotion rushed over Yelina. She could only imagine, if he felt as strongly for her as she did for him, how much he had been hurting. She longed to grasp him to her, to embrace him, to let him feel her and know she was real. She raised a hand, shaking, and placed it on his face, cupping his cheek. She felt him press slightly against her hand. “I am so very sorry you thought that, Horatio. I am here now. I’ve missed you, so very much.” He looked into her eyes, searching. She nodded her head. She stepped closer, and embraced him. “I’ve missed you, Horatio”, she whispered again. She felt his body trembling under her arms, and hung on.
