I totally agree I love how he is fallable, both in work areas and in his relationships with those around him. He does get it wrong from time to time, and I cant wait to see how that playes out in the aftermath of Hostage.
I can't wait to see that either. The more flawed Mac that we've seen recently is really interesting, Gary Sinise plays it so well. What I love about Mac is that though he's flawed, and makes mistakes, he's a really good guy with real moral standards and a genuine dedication to his team, job, city, and the people in his city, and his country.

I do hope we get some idea to how he is coping, with the last two finales TBTB fumbled with any sort of closure or follow up. But as this is following on directly after I have hopes...:)

I love Mac and Flack's relationship. They have conflicts, as all friends do, but when it comes down to it, you know they're there for each other. Flack was there for Mac in s4 when he was going through the stalker problem and Peyton staying in England, and in CoTP, it was Mac who stayed by Flack's side till he woke up.
I love Mac and Adam too. Another great ep for them is 'Risk' from s2, where they have the conversation about a hip bar called Wild, Wild Wet and Adam is surprised Mac knows the place, and Mac says he likes their shrimp cocktail, and Adam's like 'You can go anywhere you want, you're the man'!

It was like in season 1 when Mac references Queen Latifah, Hawkes was shocked.:guffaw:

Macslovlyangl Nice pics..:)

^What about Mac and crunk in S1? Heeeeeeeeeee.

Took me awhile to figure that out

And oh, congrats on the new thread! Wooh!

I agree with some of the posts above, I don't see him as Super!Mac, either. Yeah, some fans see him as a bit of a know-it-all, and he is, in some respects, but I don't see that as OTT or particularly out of character. For anyone who also watches NCIS, I see Mac and Gibbs as very similar characters in many respects. Both men were in the military and had seen up front action, are knowledgeable about weapons and other related things. Both are smart and tenacious when it comes to tracking down the bad guys, and both have put themselves in danger and have managed to live through it - but not unscathed.

On the other hand, both have weaknesses - neither one likes dealing with politics or the chain of power in some situations, both are stubborn (especially when they think they're right!), both of them are a bit technologically handicapped  And both have experienced failed relationships with women. But I think both are very realistic characters. I don't see either as a Superman type guy, only a guy who is very capable and knowledgeable in numerous areas, making him exceptionally good at his job.

The reason why I brought up the Gibbs/NCIS analogy is because, as I said, I view both as very similar character types. But as often as I've heard the "SuperMac" criticism leveled at Mac, I've never really seen NCIS fans say the same about Gibbs, and I've often wondered why, when they're so similar. Perhaps it's the way Gary plays Mac, or maybe because NCIS brings more humor into Gibbs' interactions with his team, thus softening any Super!Gibbs effect. Anyone else have some insights on this? :)

Gibbs and Mac are very similar in those respects. Their knowledge of weapons comes not from being know-it-alls, but from experience. I also agree that their attitude towards catching/tracking down bad guys is the same - if I was a criminal, I would NOT want either of them coming after me, and similarly, they're the type of investigators I want on my case if I were a victim. I also think both share a certain compassion and softness, which they don't show often, but which we do see. There's Mac's interaction with the women in Blink and Night, Mother, and with the kid in Necrophilia Americana, and several times we have seen Gibbs be very compassionate towards victims' families too. Of course, both men have also had the women they loved (and in Gibbs' case a child he loved too) murdered in circumstances they were powerless to stop - Mac could do nothing when the Towers fell, and Gibbs was either away in the first Gulf or in a coma (I forget which) when his family was killed. I think both men are also similar in their attitude towards their team - they can be very strict, and at times emotionally distant, but both are fiercely loyal to their teams, and do show compassion/caring for them.

On the other hand, both have weaknesses - neither one likes dealing with politics or the chain of power in some situations, both are stubborn (especially when they think they're right!), both of them are a bit technologically handicapped  And both have experienced failed relationships with women. Yes. Mac is a bit more technologically savvy than Gibbs, but both men I think prefer the 'old-fashioned' method of investigating - using your head- over technology. Both also dislike dealing with the chain of power in some situations - as Marines they're trained to follow it, but I'm betting as fighting men who were 'among the ranks' in the Marines, not particularly high-up - Mac I think was a Lieutenant, and Gibbs a Gunny, - both have seen the ugly side of the chain of command too, been involved in decisions by the chain of command, or made by politicians, that have cost men's lives. Both certainly have distaste for politics -neither are in their jobs for politcal reasons or advancement. Both have the failed relationships too - Gibbs 3 marriages after his first family died, and Mac's with Peyton.
Both men also have their own private distractions/hobbies out of work - Gibbs' boat, and Mac's playing bass, and I think both activities are a way for them to deal with the pain they still feel over the death of their loved ones (Mac still aches over Claire, and Gibbs is still in a lot of pain over Shannon and Kelly's deaths too). Both men have hung on to relics of their loved ones - I believe both have photos of them, and Mac has the beach ball Claire blew up, and Gibbs has the flask Shannon and Kelly gave him.

I think it is that Gibbs is given more humour than Mac is. NCIS as a show is less serious than any of the CSIs. I think the humour in NCIS makes all the characters come across as a little softer. Tony was very cocky in season 1 of NCIS, but it made him funny rather than unlikable because of the nature of the show. Had Tony been in NY's first season, he would have seemed a total a**hole, because of the show's more serious nature.
But I've never seen either man as Super!Mac or Super!Gibbs. They're both slightly know-it-alls, but then so are other characters on the shows. I see that as being part of the nature of their jobs, rather than a substantial character flaw. Grissom on Vegas seems to me to know more odd facts than either of them, but I've never viewed him as a know-it-all either.
Back to Gibbs and Mac, both may know a lot, but there are things they don't know too - how to play politics, and certain technological stuff.

Both Gibbs and Mac also have good, strong relationships (non-romantic) with strong women - Gibbs with Jenny/Ziva/Kate and Mac with Stella. Neither are intimidated by strong women but instead work very well with them, despite the occasional conflict.

And, of course, both men are HAWT!

I agree, there's usually at least one laugh-out-loud moment with Gibbs every episode while Mac gets maybe a handful each season. (This could be something to do with Mark Harmon's comedy experience, though.) Mac's humour usually only shows up in his scenes with Sid (come on, writers, more banter between those two!) and that lovely moment between him and Hawkes in Stealing Home (ditto).

I agree about the tone of the show too - one of the differences between NY and NCIS is the focus of each show, with NCIS there's more room for character moments and that's where the comedy comes from, whereas on NY the case is always the main thing, and we couldn't have the characters joking about every dead body that turns up in Manhattan, or they'd all seem like, um, donkey-holes :guffaw:, like you said about Tony if he was on NY.

I come bearing gifts....

It's great to have you back, Sam! I know exactly how you feel about stupid Internet connections, when I moved house with my family we had no Internet connection at home for a few weeks, so I had to go to the library to visit this site, and it wouldn't let me view the Mac pics! I'm so happy now I have my Internet back at home and can get regular doses of Mac!

Yes, the girl from Jamalot was called Polly. I love it when she tells Mac she wants to teach him how to 'jam', and he gets all embarrassed. I liked that they showed that a young woman like Polly (the character was in her early 20s, I think, same as me) could find Mac attractive. He's a hot guy. Even though Danny is closer to my age, I find Mac waaaaaaaaay hotter! I'd love to teach him how to 'jam'. And he can help me out of my clothes anytime he likes, and I, naturally, would return the favour...

Macslady -- Such naughty thoughts about poor sweet Mac who gets embarrassed so easily -- he'd be blushing for sure :)

Those scenes of Polly were fun to watch. I loved her comment to Flack about not getting the detective she really wanted to question her - -or something along those lines. Although as much I completely understand and applaud her attraction to Mac, I am not sure I would so easily be able to overlook Flack's charming self :)

Yep...poor Mac, he's so shy...but I kinda like it..it's so sweet! ;) I agree with you MacsLady that Mac is SO MUCH hotter than Danny or Don! I though Danny and Don are so much closer to my age even that even they still are quite older than I am! That's why many people who I know are thinking of me that I'm "strange" cause I see Mac (Gary) hot, sexy, handsome guy! "Because he is!!!" I mean he could basically be my bad!:alienblush: Or second though "no" cause he's far too sexy for being my bad! :guffaw:

I'd wanna tech Mac too...Give him a liitle lesson which he can not find any books! and he'd never forget it I'd make sure that!:devil::lol: Teaching him to "jam" would be veeery interesting experience!

Yesterday's episode was awesome ! I forget to get buckets so drooling and falling out of my beb was obvious! :guffaw: But Mac...oh...:drool::drool:I saw him pissy, careing, funny etc. I love that man! and "what was the best part"?...well I noticed what type of pants he was wearing!!! :p "pinstripe-pants"! Wau that guy has a good taste of clothes! ;) It was easy to notice cause the filming-angle was in his badge level!:drool::drool:
You know what I mean...! ;)
