Hi again, I know this topic has been talked about, cut into pieces, and inspected on every side, but light be worthwhile trying again...when ne says "I like forensics", what type. i for myself am interested in ballistics, about about you, and why?

Well, for professional reasons, I like chemical and biological (DNA etc) analysis.

Re: Welcome to the Forensic Science Forum

I like ballistics, because I'm really interested in Physics. I don't deny that Calliegh had a huge part in why I decided to get into ballistics, but now that I've set my mind to it, I'm really interested. That and I want to have an excuse to shoot things! :D I'm not crazy, I'm swear!

Nice CSI_in_training. Good CSI_in_training. Have some cookies.

Re: Welcome to the Forensic Science Forum

I'm glad you all believe me...
Dynamo1 thank you for the cookies though! makes my day a good one!

Re: Welcome to the Forensic Science Forum

If you're crazy, then I am too : we had to do a big project, for my first term at uni, both in maths and physics, and I chose ballistics...it's due on January the 7th... When I chose it, people looked at me in a very strange way, especially my tutor...I guess they thought I was crazy...Glad to find someone who understands... :D

Re: Welcome to the Forensic Science Forum

I completely understand.
Last year I did a project on being a ballistics expert for science and I presented it if I was testifying in court...people were like WTF? What's up with this girl? Jenny is the only person who gets me. OH! My new step daddy is taking me out to shoot things this month...he just doesn't know it yet.

I already shoot things. XD Why do you think my nickname is Hunter? I've one quite a few hunting tropies. I started when i was 7, it was illegal at the time but i went anyways. Started out with the basic 22., then i started using the hunting bow. And finally got to use the basic rifle and other guns. lol. I know my way around guns.

Re: Welcome to the Forensic Science Forum

It's a pity, in Europe it's real hard to go shooting. I would have liked to join a team but it's just hell all the formailities taht go alongside it. If you started aged 7, I gather you must live in America (no offense). What are the rules when you're on a shooting team for carrying the weapon, ammo.... ?

These vary highly by state. Back 20 years ago when I was in highschool in California, all I needed was a note in my wallet signed by my parents giving me permission to take my target rifle (or my handgun) and ammunition back and forth from the range/hunting.

I even flew with my target rifle as checked luggage in 1990 to the national shooting matches at 17 years old.

I'm sure things are more restrictive now in California, as well as many other states.

Re: Welcome to the Forensic Science Forum

how different is shooting a real gun than a airsoft? I don't know if Im up to a real one cuz of all the horror stories about people shooting themselves because the kickback was so strong

This is turning a little off-topic, but I've never heard of someone shooting themselves because of strong recoil. Sounds more like anti-gunner scare tactics.

Strong recoil can occur in magnum type handguns, but work your way up to it. Start with smaller caliber handguns like 9mm Luger. If you are really worried, only load one cartridge in the magazine, and then it is impossible for there to be an unintentional discharge as a result of stronger-than-anticipated recoil.

Re: Welcome to the Forensic Science Forum

hey im going to uni in september to study forensic science, totally looking forward to it. i have no idea what im going to do when i graduate, maybe specialise/do a postgrad, but i dont really have a clue!
explosion or fire analysis sounds really good, so does toxicology, trace too, anthropology, and entomology. But basically all of it does!

ive been set on going to nottingham trent for about 6 months now, i got an offer from there, as well as from lincoln, glamorgan, kent and central lancashire, these are the ones i can choose from! does anyone know anything about these unis, there reputations, etc would really help. There arent any league tables for forensic science courses in england, so i cant judge which is best from an employers point of view.
Any info would really help,
thank you :)
