Honestly, the difference is only 10 seconds, so I don't see why CBS doesn't just show the 30 seconds one in the first place

According to Ausiello, Annabeth Gish has been hired to play Catherine's friend, Laura, in the story arc leading to Cath's exit.

The truth is out there about Marg Helgenberger’s hush-hush exit plot on CSI, and I have a hunch X-Files vet Annabeth Gish figures squarely in the middle of it.
The actress has landed a three-episode arc as Laura, an old friend of the soon-to-depart Catherine. When the two reconnect after 20 years apart, Cath discovers a surprising terror underneath her pal’s cheery exterior — a terror that she suspects is linked to her powerful bazillionaire hubby whose company may or may not have been involved in some very shady goings-on.
Gish’s first of three non-consecutive episodes is slated to air during November sweeps.
Producers are also casting the role of an FBI agent who comes to Vegas to work on a big case — and sleep with Catherine.

Annabeth Gish seems like a good choice for Catherine's friend. I wonder if Gish's character will meet her demise, and that leads to Catherine re-evaluating her job.
Also looking forward to who is cast as the FBI guy and Laura's husband. I like it when Catherine does battle with powerful men. It brings out her street smart toughness, which is a big part of who she is (as it was for Warrick). I thought some of her best scenes with Sam were when she was telling him off. "You're a thug..." was a great one.

I'm looking forward to this arc. It sounds awesome, with or without WP.

Here's Catherine 'fling'

CSI Exclusive: Grant Show Set for 'Steamy Fling' With Marg Helgenberger's Catherine
BY MICHAEL SLEZAK

Things are about to get hotter than the Nevada desert at high noon for CSI‘s Catherine Willows. The Vegas crime-lab veteran will soon find herself embroiled in a “steamy affair” with an FBI agent played by Grant Show (Big Love, Melrose Place) — and it could turn out to be more than just a workplace fling.

Sources tell TVLine exclusively that Show has signed on for a multi-episode arc as Agent McQuaid, the “sexy and confident” partner of recently cast Matt Lauria (The Chicago Code), who “initially rattles Catherine when he and his colleagues swoop in to ‘help’ on the CSI team’s latest case.” Soon, though, McQuaid finds himself taken with Catherine’s amazing field work, Catherine finds herself taken with McQuaid’s intelligence and bravery, and the duo take their mutual appreciation directly to the bedroom.

With Helgenberger set to exit the long-running procedural at midseason, is it possible that Catherine has found a partner with whom she’ll ride off into the sunset? Stay tuned.

ETA: Ooops, that's from Ausiello/TVLine

I had to google 'Grant Show' and ironically the only thing i've seen him in is Elisabeth Harnois' show 'Point Pleasant', where Alex Carter's character tries to beat up Grant Show's character cos he thinks he's (Show) slept with his wife .

I like how all the online tv reports keep referring to the other FBI character as Sac Pratt, thinking that Sac is his first name when it's actually SAC (Special Agent in Charge)

This story arc for Catherine seems really intriguing. So I guess Catherine and Vartann will officially break up beforehand (at least I hope they show that beforehand, considering she'll be having a thing for that FBI agent), I'm not a big fan of Catherine/Vartann, but I was really glad, that Catherine finally ended up with someone who didn't either die on her or end up hurting her, and now she's going through another break up again; at least I can't help but feel that they're strongly implying that. I was just hoping she'd stay in a long-term relationship
:(. A part from that, I'm really looking forward to seeing this, even though it seems like Grissom won't be making an appearance (which really sucks, since they've always had a deep, dynamic relationship and it would make the most sense IMO for him to play a part in her story arc) I'm glad there's still a chance that Nick will be involved since he and Catherine are also really close.

I get the impression from Shane's spoiler post that the writer's never considered Cath/Vartann together and therefore won't need to have them 'break up'.

It might not be a popular opinion but i'm glad WP isn't coming back for Marg's exit - it's going to be overshadowed by this FBI storyline as it is. I reckon they'll try and bring both Marg and WP back for the finale instead.

Great catch by Erica at margamania.net:
She has posted that both Marg and Grant Show were on Ryan's Hope at about the same time. Marg was 1982-86 and Grant 1984-87. So, a reunion.
Both of them were single then, so maybe they dated. :p

Grant Show? YES! At least its someone I really like. Funny other coincidence though: Both Grant and Alex (Vartann) have been recurring characters on "Burn Notice", though not at the same time and they unfortunately killed Grant's character off. :( Anyway, he's pretty nice looking. :)

I'm glad that they clarified that Vartann will continue to be in episodes even after Cath leaves cause I was so worried that they would kill him off.

I don't like the whole "someone may be going rogue" thing. I hope that doesn't come to pass... we just basically had that with Ray. Please no more rogue CSIs. :sigh:

I'm glad to see Vartann will be coming back, with or without Catherine!

My interpretation on them is maybe TPTB never considered them "exclusive", but they were still involved to the point that Vartann asked them to start living together. Even if Cath wasn't feeling exclusive, he was. So maybe no, there doesn't have to be a "breakup", but I still hope they address the situation.

And I'm still really interested in how Nick plays into Catherine's exit arc. I sure hope it's nicely done, and sensitive, since the two of them have such a close history after all these years. I really care about how that plays out!

Grant Show, I've heard of, and he's definitely nice looking. I only remember Melrose Place, so I don't have much of an opinion on his acting recently.

I'm loving all of these past '6 degrees' connections
