'Stealing Home' Discussion **SPOILERS**

Sara's one and only mention of a brother was season 3 - hate to say this but with TPTB their entire character bio's have probably changed 3 or 4 times since then. They can change for convience in any and every episode. ;) (I mean come on, we went from Warrick being the only one born in Vegas to both Warrick & Catherine born in Vegas but Catherine also went up against Grissom in a science fair in elementary school if I remember right.)

Decent enough episode. Had some good lines.

Once they found the one 'house hijacker' under the house they sorta forgot about the other 3 in the truck.

Nick handled himself very good finding the skeleton in the wall. In the earlier seasons that would have startled him a bit more than that.

I find Julie Finley irritating at this point. They're trying too hard with the character. The attitude is too much. If you were a boss and had an employee with that much attitude you would be telling them that they're putting their job at risk.

TPTB did promise us multi-case episodes this season! I'm going to have to go back and see how many we've had (Bittersweet & Maid Men are the only ones I can think of at this point, but it is early ). I think it would be better use of the character screentime to have more multi-case episodes.

I must say that, for a lllooonngg time, I've always wanted to see a case where suspects, witnesses, or family members bicker left and right like there's no tomorrow. Maaybe, it's because I've just wanted to see the reactions from the CSIs. Nick handled himself well with some little cute grins and smirks, and poor Sara had to be the one to try to break up the fights/arguements, more than once.

I didn't post about Shue's first episode on the other thread because I would like to only see from day one how she is, will I like her, etc. It was an alright episode. Now in this, both her and D.B. seemingly had a lot in common. Both would play the dead victim, D.B. would yell for Greg or for anyone else, and Finn is pretty agressive especially with Greg and that whole chainsaw thing. Hopefully, her conduct wouldn't take too much over the next remaining episodes or next seasons if she does blend in well and if viewers like her. If she wants to bury the past with D.B., I hope she does keep her word. And please, I would really hate for them to have or have had an affair. I really don't want another headache of another broken family from another CSI.

With her seemingly aggressive conduct, she's not so bad in the interrogating scene. But, I'll see. Personally, I would not want to see another female detective try to be all motherly with whoever they talk to or interrogate. I've seen much of it on a lot of crime dramas, especially the CSI shows and with Catherine. Unless, it's some kind of police tactic to try to soften up or be motherly to a witness, suspect, etc. enough for them to confess or tell the truth. If I wanna be babied, I go to my mother.

When I saw the episode's preview about the story of a house being stolen, I thought they must have the same writers of the CSI: NY episode about a house being taken. And when it came to the house being the suspect or the killer, it reminds me of the Death House episode of NY. I must say, Vegas does need a story like this, hehe.

-The Wizard Of Oz allusion to the house landing on top of a guy, nice!

-One of the brothers saying, "You wanna steal the police station, too?", or something like that while the CSIs react to it, lol.

-And who duh ffuuuggg came up with those questions?? Hodges? Sex with animals?? The hell?? Lol! And Julie's reaction to it, LMAO!

-The Hicks sister's reaction to her mom conceiving her with a handyman, and the brothers' comment to her not being their sister, and her statement after, haaha!

-Brass keeping a straight face and the other CSIs' reactions on the siblings name-calling one another, whether by interview or face to face, hhookay!

-And I like the station looking much brighter than ever, like the earliest seasons of CSI. Now, that's the overall lighting look that I want to see again.

This gets an A-.

This episode was okay, I found myself looking at the clock again during it and found it was moving slow. I think it is better when they have two cases. I pretty much figured the dead body in the road would somehow be related to the Stealing House case.

I think it was odd that the actual guys who stole the house were never brought in, or so it seemed.

I'm not warming up to Finn as much as I did DB right up front. Finn is coming across as a know-it-all and reminds me a bit of Ray in that aspect. I hope they tone her down a bit as the season carries on.

The story sure did have a lot of twists on who was who and at least kept us guessing in that aspect. I did enjoy that and I also liked the guest stars too, they did a great job with the family bickering.

Fave moments: the house on top of the guy like Wizard of Oz
-Hodges getting ragged by Finn about his tentacle porn fetish.
-DB telling Morgan she can work with her boyfriend, Greg and her expression.

I love when they all tease each other about stuff. Reminds me of my workplace. :D

I give it a B :)

I wish they had given the B case a little more time before making it all one and I do agree we need more A and B cases that aren't connected

Not a terrible amount of Greg

Continuity  Hodges knowing about octosex

Mentioning Lauren and Al's niece

Well Sara not having a brother doesn't necessarily mean continuity is messed up, for all we know she was talking about a foster sibling in One Hit Wonder

Finn meeting the rest :)

Asking DB why he really asked her to come

And I don't feel like DB and her taking over the show, good sign just hope it doesn't come to that

I liked this one quite lot, the case was interesting and had a lot of unexpected turns which kept me guessing throughout the whole episode. I was slightly disappointed we weren't getting two cases (come on, where have they gone?!) but then again I felt it was strong enough to carry the hour along.

Still unsure about Julie. Liked her at the beginning with the lie detector test. Did NOT like her barging into autopsy and declaring the victim 'hers' at all, but I thought the chainsaw bit was quite funny. I do like the chemistry between her and DB but I really don't want them to end up forcing it down our throats. Don't screw it up TPTB!

It was quite a humorous episode, not laugh out loud hilarious but light hearted and enjoyable. The bickering brothers were enjoyable to start with but quickly got tedious.

Overall, pretty good. Much better than last week, I'll definitely be giving this one a re-watch. :)

Rating: 7.9/10 (good)

I actually enjoyed this episode for the most part :), it wasn't anything spectacular, but the case was fun to watch and I got some good laughs out of it, especially the constant bickering between the family members, and Julie coming out with the chainsaw :guffaw:!!

Once again, everyone in general had a decent amount of screen time, I liked the amount Nick and Sara had especially, their brother/sister interaction never gets old :):), and I'm liking his moments with Morgan :).

There were some things about Julie that irked me a little, like the scene with her Doc, Morgan and Greg (she was kinda rude, and her cockiness still bugs me a little), but at the same time she did have some good/laughable moments, and I liked her working with Nick a little :):).

No argument there, about the cases being related AGAIN :shifty:!! We so need more episodes with both A and B cases!!

I thought I recall Sara saying something about how her and her brother were separated during the foster process after their mom killed their abusive father. Or that maybe he was old enough to be on his own (ie eighteen or older) when it happened and then she went into the foster system and never saw her brother again. But, I'd have to watch OHW again to know for sure. Either way, if she had a brother whether its biological or foster, she wasn't technically an only child... so it was still a continuity issue. Strange how they got so many continuity points with the Hodges tentacle porn fetish and the mention of Lauren and Doc's niece, yet they missed the mark on Sara's continuity.

--

I didn't think Julie was intentionally being rude, but they did in the description of the character mention something about how she has issues with tact or something. In a way, she kind of reminds me slightly of early Temperance Brennan (Bones), who had no concept of tact at all lol, but never meant any harm in anything she said.

Here's what she said in "One Hit Wonder":

SARA: When I was a kid I was playing hide-and-seek one day and I found this plastic bag under my big brother's bed. I thought it was a bag of dirt so I took it to my mom. Turned out it was his bag of weed. He was grounded for a
year.

As for Finn...yeah, her character is supposed to be someone who "doesn't hold back", but that doesn't make it enjoyable to watch. ;)

Thanks, Smokey. I couldn't remember the quote exactly. As far as I know, she never referred to any foster parents she might of had as "mom", so from my perspective, she was referring to a biological brother. I'm not sure how old she was supposed to have been when her mom killed her dad though. I was thinking she was older than "playing hide and go seek" age though.

Yeah, I'm not buying the whole 'foster brother' rationale. I doubt that she would refer to her foster mom as 'my mom', when her mother is still alive. I just think the new writers didn't know about this mention (since we really haven't heard about him since), and may have just looked at her initial character bio that may have implied she was an only child; but once it airs, it's canon, IMO. Just like Grissom's father dying, instead of leaving, was changed in an episode.
And, I know I'm more obsessed with this than most here because I am a Sara nerd, but even if she didn't have a real brother, the quote was wrong, wrong, wrong for her. I would think that a child of troubled parents would want to have a sibling to bond with over their parents problems, someone to share the burden with. I just don't see how she would be 'glad she's an only child' considering all her family issues. 'The fighting and screaming and trips to the hospital'. Sara's backstory is such a big part of who she is and was used to explain her passion as a CSI. And was even important enough to cause her to leave her home and friends.
The bottom line: the quote fits the episode, but it shouldn't have been Sara who said it.
Ugh. I know I need to let it go. :brickwall:

And, I do agree with you about Finn, Smokey. Tone it down, please.

I asked Melissa Byer about that revelation, and here's what she told me:

The reference from "One hit wonder" came before Sara revealed to anyone that she was raised in foster care (Nesting Dolls). Therefore you are right, she was referring to her foster brother.

Okay, I guess I'll have to let it go, since this is probably the only explanation we will get. And, maybe I can see where Sara wouldn't want to let Grissom know she was in foster care, so she could make her point without divulging that she was talking about her foster family.
But I still don't think the quote fits Sara considering her family history. And, more than that, I'm afraid that the supporting characters and their backstories will become irrelevent in this 'new' CSI anyway.

ETA: Just PLEASE don't forget she is married!

 That answer makes me even more annoyed at the situation.

Even if it was her foster brother, she's still technically not an only child. Therefore in my mind, it was still a continuity issue. The quote still doesn't make sense with her previous character history. Now if she'd said, "I'm glad I'm an only child ... well, unless you count foster siblings", that would have been fine. But she didn't say. It still looked like they were changing her history and it distracts from the whole episode when something like that occurs.

If I recall, Greg, Warrick and I think Grissom were the only ones who were truly without siblings (whether they be foster or blood related). And they would have been better off having Greg be the one to say that line. Not only was it inaccurate given Sara's previously stated comments (a foster sibling is STILL a sibling in my mind), but it was also a wrong choice to have Sara say it because of the reasons jafox stated about Sara's past. Anyone in that situation would most likely not be glad they were an only child.

On the whole thing with Sara being an only child, for all we know Jorja could have been ad libbing. I know that's very slim chance and doesn't seem very likely, but it's the only thing I can think of that makes sense.

As for the rest of the episode, I thought it was rather good. Also I'd like to know if that question about having sex with animals from the polygraph test was something Grissom suggested for the test when he was there or did D.B. come up with that one? Really makes you wonder...
