I too, am on the fence about Ted Danson. He does remind me a lot of Grissom (in looks and in attitude -- must be the hair) but I also found his character to be hypocritical. He's noting to Ecklie that Nick was getting too interested in personal issues with his interrogation, yet he's willing to give a kid a $100 bill and take him to a basketball game? That didn't set right with me, but I'm a teacher and the "let's be fair to all" colors my vision of things.

I agree that the scene with Robbins and Brass was done as a quick way to explain Langston's exit. It didn't even make sense to me why Robbins was brought into a hospital anyway -- couldn't Brass find a doctor there to help him? Not an organic way to explain the exit and I feel that Ray finding happiness while everyone else suffers makes no sense at all.

Of course, being a Brass fan -- there's never enough Brass to suit me........

Nick speaking Latin is something that has been brought back from season 1 (To Halve and To Hold) where Nick translated the Latin before Catherine. He's more than smart enough or he wouldn't be there. And if you want to, think of it this way - Nick needing help with the little 'buggies' could be an in for bringing Grissom back for an episode or 2 in which the character can actually be a 'part' of the episode instead of in a scene that's nothing more than filler. :)

Were is saying that you wouldn't do anything different not admitting to culpability? All Nick said was that he wouldn't change anything. Catherine knows Nick - he's always lead with his heart and he always will. You can't change a person that much.

I loved this episode, DB fit in REALLY well with the team, we didn't get much Morgan, but hopefully when she's actually a part of the team that will change.

I'm a little disheartened Marg didn't get the "Starring" credit, but not as disheartened as I was when an actor I hated got it during Season 9.

The end scene was cool, although (and this won't go down well on these boards), I do think Nick was being a bit of dick, because everything Catherine said was right. I can understand Nick being argumentative though, the poor guy lost his office (although Sara & Greg didn't kick up a fuss about it.) I'm glad Catherine kept hers.

What happened to the fetal pig?

Me thinks Greg is a little smitten with Lil' Ecklie. N'awww.

Overall, a nice change from the crap we had during seasons 9-11, and the ratings were up from last seasons finale (11.77million went up to 12.59million.) Danson's doing a great job, and so is his fictional counterpart.

The one thing about Nick, to me at least, is that he may have always lead with his heart and it may be true to the character historically speaking; but that doesn't mean it's always a good trait or that the character can't or shouldn't evlove from S1 to S12 (and NO I'm NOT saying Nick hasn't evolved in any way, shape or form for 11 seasons). Same thing with not admitting maybe he could've done some things differently. Admitting that doesn't make him responsible for Ray's or Catherine's or anyone else's actions or consequences, but it does make him responsible for his own and that's a sign of maturity.

Ummm, Nick is very mature. :p However, he isn't going to admit that could have done things differently if he truly thinks he did what was right.

Doesn't make what he did, right. ;) Just makes him a damn stubborn Texan.

I'm liking DB so far and hopefully it will stay that way. :shifty: Loved him reprimanding Nick, but DB? Nick is the resident kid whisperer, so back off.

I did love all the expressions last night.

And this episode felt a lot like the old CSI and that made me very happy. :D

I never said he was overall an immature character. Being able to be mature in most instances doesn't mean he needs to stop growing and evolving as a character. Being stubborn and not being able to see things from another perspective isn't always a good thing, either. ;)

I was just being sarcastic. I know that wasn't what you were saying. :)

For some reason I thought your post was from Praetor. :shifty: Please don't ask me why. My brain is apparently not functioning well this week.

I too agree with everything Cath said in the end. I'm not too sure Nick completely understood what she was trying to get across about the team having to be reigned in a little and changing the way things are done. I'm glad that even though Catherine is frustrated and pissed about how things went down and with being demoted she does see how things got out of hand and accepts her responsibility and understands precisely what went wrong. I was afraid they were going to have her be stubborn and not accept mistakes or her new position and that's not the feeling I got at all. Nick still IMO doesn't understand just exactly how grave what happened was and still needs to accept that there are things that do need to change because they just can't keep on as they were. I think that there's a good possibility we get more scenes like the one about the report between DB and Nick in the future. Maybe throughout the season we'll see Nick struggling with the "new administration" and it can be a storyline through which his character grows a bit more.

Why have I been summoned? Oh. It's just Speedy. (;))

Very well. Since I'm here I guess I can discuss the lengthy conversation at work this morning about the tentacle porn. Long story short, there was one person there who found the scene of the woman in the bathtub with Squidward to be very hot. And no, it wasn't me.

Also, a related question for DJ. How do you feel about Hodges apparent intimate knowledge about such eroticism?

I don't know if this has been asked yet. I'll read all the post later. I want to know what Nick said before Cath said to him "well, you can add me to that list?" I played that scene many times and I can't understand what he said. Thanks.

I loved the episode. I liked D.B. Russell. He had such an interesting vibe. I loved that Greg was interested in Ecklie's daughter Morgan. The case was interesting, but I want more Sara and Dr. Robbins. They felt like they were almost left out. So far so good this season.

I did specifically say that Nick was 'smart enough', but I just don't think the categorizing of bugs fits his personality, at least not what we have seen in the last few years. And as much as we would like to forget the last 2+ years, it did happen. And, I think it would have been fun having Hodges fill this role. Grissom was his idol, and as much as Hodges hated going out into the field, I think he would have done it for Grissom.

Personally, I'd be okay with 'filler', if that's what it takes to see WP (and GSR) again. :) Billy obviously doesn't want a major role on the show anymore, so even a cameo would be nice.

I agree with you, too, that you can't change a person. BUT, a person has to act within the rules of his job. Nick just has to learn, and I think he will learn under DB, that you can't always get what you want, even if it's for the right reasons. Welcome to the real world, Nick!

Actually, the WHOLE team needs to act within the rules of the jobs, including DB. What he did with the kid was outside of the rules.

He criticized Nick for getting too personal with the dead guys brother and then turned around and did the same with the kid.

I'm all for acting within the rules, but sometimes rules were made to be broken. ;)

Nick honestly thinks what he did was right and he stood up for that and he put blame where it belonged, on Langston.

Because no matter what ANY of them did, they were all put in that situation because of Langston and his obsession with Haskell.

The only one who seems to have 'gotten off' is Langston. He no longer has to deal with it, while the team still does.

I would say (hope) that at some point early in the season each of the CSIs will get their turn at having DB work with them on how they do their jobs. Sara's turn is probably coming up
in the episode where she takes a domestic abuse case personally.

ETA: Or maybe they already have since Nick has been away. :) But they all have issues, that's why DB was brought in.

Ahh. Gotcha. Sometimes it's hard to tell if the meaning comes across so I over explain myself. :)
