Ratings Discussion

I don't think Nashville and CSI would share a common audience, if anything Chicago Fire will be more of a hindrance. Likewise, the show was up against a double-bill of SVU which it won't have come the 10th.

Winning timeslots and being rated highly for the night won't get the show renewed. It all depends on how well other shows on CBS do. Hawaii Five-0 did disastrously this week, neither Partners nor Vegas had an impressive debut and I can't see the show going before NY. Saying that, I reckon Season 14 will probably be the show's last, 15 maybe if CBS are feeling particularly generous.
Never underestimate the throngs of country music lovers in this country. ;)
But I do agree, it will be the last of the franchise to go; and hopefully, it will be given a big send-off season when it does.

Grr why couldn't CSI stay Thursdays at nine. Well now that would be on the same time as Glee, but I wanted to watch Nashville. I'm so busy on Wednesdays. 10 is so late...But I always make time for CSI ;) I agree. This show will be the last to go in the franchise. It deserves the biggest farewell. If it goes before NY there will be problems lol.

An interesting article from Business Week - From CBS, Advertisers Get the Older Viewers They Want

CBS (CBS) has long been derided by rivals for attracting TV viewers considered too old for most advertisers to care about. Now the Murder, She Wrote generation is having the last laugh. Consumers aged 18 to 24, many strapped with college debt and living in their parents’ basements, aren’t forming households or starting families the way their predecessors did. Meanwhile, the youngest members of the massive Baby Boom generation turn 48 this year. And luxury car, financial-services, and pharmaceutical companies—three of CBS’s largest ad categories—want to reach them. “While we enjoy winning in all the categories, 18 to 49 is not the end-all it’s made out to be,” Nina Tassler, CBS’s head of entertainment, told a gathering of TV critics in July.

I agree they are killing the series by let it at 10 pm... Now Ted is the at the head of CSI let him a chance to be in prime time (he's not Laurence Fishburne !)

While I can appreciate the facts in this article, I don't think I can tolerate more Viagra commercials. Choosing to ignore the younger generation is short-sighted, IMO.

This!

Oh, boy. Something tells me CSI will be in trouble next week. EW gave Nashville an A and it is #1 on their Must List. I have a feeling CSI is going to get trampled.

But it doesn't matter if Nashville beats CSI in its timeslot, CBS won't cancel timeslot losers, it will cancel the lowest rated shows on the network. CSI NY, Made in Jersey, Partners, Blue Bloods, Hawaii Five-0 and The Good Wife have lower ratings and Vegas and Elementary are dropping pretty quickly. It would take a colossal ratings plunge for the show to be cancelled in my opinion.

Yeah, CSI is safe. If anything, I see this being CSI:NY's last season and CSI will be shipped back to its original timeslot on Friday where it could last for a few more seasons as long as CBS can still make a profit off of it.

They didn't get blown away by Nashville.

Lead the 10pm timeslot (10.58 million) and second in the 18-49 demo (2.6/7 share)

CSI Shares Leadership with Premiere Competition

The second episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’s thirteenth season, “Code Blue Plate Special”, shared the top spot on Wednesday, October 10. The crime drama pulled in 10.58 million viewers, which is down slightly from the premiere; however, this was enough to beat the series premieres of Nashville (8.98 million) and Chicago Fire (6.44 million). In the key 18-49 demographic prized by advertisers, Nashville came out on top with a 2.8 rating/8 share for the hour. CSI was next with 2.6/7, and Chicago Fire earned 1.9/5.

Wow, I'm pretty surprised truth be told. After being pre-empted last week, two shows premiering in its timeslot and for it not being a season premiere I was not expecting a rise at all!

As for year to year, it's got pretty much identical ratings to "Maid Man" which aired on October 12 last year. So it seems like it's pretty stable year-to-year. :)

(Of course if it's adjusted down in finals you can completely ignore this post. :p)

Nashville was available for free download on iTunes. I hope that didn't affect it. We'll see next week...

Ratings: Arrow Flies Steady, Nashville and Chicago Fire Drop More than 20 Percent

CSI: Las Vegas 2.4 (demo) 10.56 (viewers)

Chicago Fire 1.5 (demo) 5.91 (viewers)

Nashville 2 (demo) 6.75 (viewers)

The CW’s Arrow stayed on target this Wednesday night, matching its premiere rating of 1.3 and besting NBC’s 8 o’clock comedy block (which averaged a 1.2).

And though the action-drama dipped 15 percent in total audience (to 3.5 million viewers), it actually rose week-to-week in both the Men 18-34 and Men 18-49 demos.

The news was not as good for two other Wednesday newbies: ABC’s Nashville dropped 29 percent from its series premiere to deliver a 2.0 rating, thus falling behind CSI (2.4). NBC’s Chicago Fire, at 1.5, was also down more than 20 percent in its second week. CSI of course also dominated the 10pm hour in total audience, with 10.6 million viewers.

Elsewhere on the night:

* ABC’s The Middle (2.5) inched up, The Neighbors (1.9) and Modern Family (4.6) dipped just a bit, and Suburgatory (2.8) was down 15 percent from its freshman premiere (which led out of the softer Middle).

* CBS’ Survivor (2.7) and Criminal Minds (3.1) each slipped a few percentage points, while CSI (2.4) was down 8 percent.

* Of NBC’s aforementioned comedies, Animal Practice (1.0) dropped 9 percent and Guys With Kids (1.4) was flat. SVU, at 1.6, was down 11 percent to tie a series low.

* Supernatural matched last week’s 1.0 rating, while dipping 12 percent in total audience (to 2.2 million viewers).
