Zuiker: 'I Feel Like A Million Bucks For Creating 'CSI'

CSI Files

Captain
Anthony Zuiker recently said CSI was partially born out of a general lack of science oriented cop shows.

"The history of CSI really began with an amazing formula and a creation of a piece of forensic drama that was really new and fresh and went inside the body," he told CBS.

Though CBS was enamored with the idea of CSI from the beginning, Zuiker revealed the actual development of the show wasn't easy. "It was very challenging because it was the first cop show that actually went below the belt to actually look at the forensic science."

Today, CSI is the number one show, making Zuiker feel, "like a million bucks." He revealed the show's recipe for success is simple. "I think it's the cast in combination with the amazing writing, I think that's what makes the show really fantastic."

CSI co-showrunner Carol Mendelsohn concurred, which is why fans should expect more character development this season. "What the fans tune in to see every week is the characters," she said. "They're modern day heroes. The legacy of the show is that we delivered a great show week in and week out and that the fans liked what we were doing and came back every week."
