What topic would you like to see featured on CSI?

With so many seasons and episodes, it seems like there probably isn't anything the CSI shows haven't dealt with - but is there a topic you wish the show(s) would include that hasn't been shown before? Or is there a topic that was mentioned in an episode but you feel should get a bigger focus? Maybe they addressed something, but you wish they'd done a better job? So, with those questions in mind:

What topic would you like to see featured on CSI?

I know there was a thread about this somewhere, but I would really like to see more diversity in New York at least, mainly with the GLBT population. There have been mentions of gay characters, but its never really given much attention, and seeing as NYC is one of the largest cities in the US and would arguably have a sizeable GLBT population, it would be nice to see an episode showcasing that. Lately we get so many crimes with jealous lovers or businessmen killling others just for something they want, and there isn't much behind it. As bad as they are, hate crimes happen every day too, someone is killed or hurt just for being who they are. So I guess I would like to see some of that too...if that makes any sense.

Other types of crimes besides deaths. They have had a few kidnappings, but I remember the one LV episode about the Japanese sword. They could have more unusual burglaries or robberies. (Sorry, coroners.)

I only watch Vegas religiously so this topic could have been covered in one of the other shows. If it has please let me know, I want to see it!

I love it when tv shows deal with mental health diagnosis in a somewhat realistic manner, even though the plot lines would probably never happen in real life. I want a plot with Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly multiple personality disorder). Because that would be one hell of a twist...and I think all facets of mental health are interesting. :D

Bookgirl, that plotline would worry me so much. I had a very good friend with that, and I've only seen one media representation of it that was in any way accurate. If they're going to do it, they'd better get their facts straight. There's nothing worse than having an illness, mental or otherwise, misrepresented to millions of people. :(

Nice signature, by the way. :D

Yeah I agree because one of the reasons I wasn't a fan of Committed was because of the scene where they featured these killers and then showed their label and I was very offended because one of the labels was Major Depressive Disorder which I know many people suffer from, but they haven't gone out and killed anyone.

But if any show can do this, or any of the other plot lines mentioned above, with credibility, let's hope it's CSI. I mean, there's a reason we watch it - because it's thoughtfully put together and the cases can be thought-provoking. If we all didn't love that aspect of the show we'd be watching Grey's.

I'd like to see something done with car accidents. Don't ask me why, but I find it fascinating how those are re-constructed.

I'd love for them to have a story arc where they have a theif or other non-murderer they just can't seem to bag. (On Vegas, they should bring The Board back.) Not for a serious arc, but something to provide comic releif maybe. Someone who taunts them, who's just smart enough to get away . . . till sweeps week, anyway ;)

ETA: I love bookgirl's banner.... :adore:

I think you're right. CSI seems to be very good at researching details and trying to be accurate, so perhaps they could do this type of story and represent it well.

I think I'd like to see a bit more of the Vegas-y side of things (in the LV show, of course!). Not just old style Vegas, but the touristy side of things.

CSI:LV has dealt with Bipolar Disorder twice and both times they've really done a disservice to those of us who suffer from it. We don't all go around knocking down mailboxes, smashing car windows or sleeping with teenage boys. Yes I know this is a crime show but there are just more compassionate ways to show certain things IMHO..

A friend of mine who works in the medical field laughed when I told him about the scene where the Major Depressive Disorder label was flashed because he told me people with depression rarely kill anyone because, well, they're too depressed-some can't even get out of bed let alone kill someone.

I'd like to see more shows dealing with more global issues and how they have affected North America, such as 'honour killings' which is very touchy issue given the cultural aspect of it. I don't know if it even happens in Vegas, but it's not impossible.

Look at that I stir the pot then never check in :D sorry!
I fully agree that any mental health or medical issue has to be handled delicately and WAY too often gets twisted and a very negative spin.
I think the writers could do it right if they tried, but too often they go for the easy drama by playing up symptoms that are few and far between.
But it is difficult to represent mental health diagnosis accurately since symptoms, severity and effects vary so widely.

How about autism? Maybe the only witness to a crime is autistic.

Or, and this has been done so incredibly badly elsewhere, Wicca, Asatru, Druidry, etc. I know Miami did Santeria and was pretty respectful and did a decent job of a basic explanation.

Episode 7 of Season 2 of Las Vegas, "Caged", had an autistic (highly functioning) witness to a murder that Grissom and Nick worked. :)

That was Suckers - my very favorite episode!

I agree with the person who said they'd like to see something about honor killings - that would be different and make for an interesting plot.
