What if????

CSI Level Three
As you know this show has changed a lot since its first episode.
As people some of us like this kind of changes while some others might hate them.

Now, as we some times aks some existencial questions in our life like "what if I wasn't born?", "What if I had left this city?"....& so on & so forth.

So, now, I'd like to use this kind of questions for the show & its character & I'd like you to answer to very simple questions, which will be about the past, the present & the future of the show
Let's begin w/ the past & we'll slowly use our time machine to go to the future.

What if the very first episode of CSI:Miami hadn't been so successful? Do you think TPTB would have cancelled the show?

No, I don't think so. CSI was hugely popular and that was the reason why CSI: Miami was developed. I think, as a spinoff, they were prepared to give it time to catch on.

They had a great city with plenty of story potential, they had strong lead characters/actors, and with the overwhelming success of the mothership, they new they had a proven commodity.

I really think they would have given them a fair chance to find their audience.

I think if the first episode hadn't been successful CBS would probably have given it a few more episodes to try and see if the numbers went up. Miami has such colorful parts to it and the characters on CSI: Miami were made to be interesting so I think people would have watched a few more episodes to see if it improved.

No, I don't think they would cancelled the show, IDK why but I just think they wouldn't, I think TPTB would try to make some HUGE episode about the team, you know, a personal storyline or maybe just a HUGE normal episode.
Many people already liked CSI, so I think if they like it they would watch Miami, some people didn't like it other people like/love it.

No, I don't think it would have been cancelled either. They would have had to give it a few tries with a few more episodes. With the original CSI being so popular, it's hard to see CSI Miami not becoming popular as well :)

This is my answer too

Time for a more interesting question:

What if Megan had never left the lab? Do you think it would have been the same or something would have changed? Do you also think that she was that useful for the show since it actually survived without her?

I actually liked Megan on the show. The show would be totally different if Megan was still on the show. Calleigh wouldn't be placed in the authority position that she has now. She's looked at as the second-in command and when Megan was on the show, it wasn't anything like that... In my opinion.

I liked Megan, too, and actress Kim Delaney from other TV shows. I think she would have seen Horatio just posing at crime scenes, putting sunglasses on and taking them off, but doing nothing at the crime scene but staring. She would have gone to H's supervisor and tried to get her old job back. Either that or just shoot H.

I really don't know.
Don't get me wrong but Megan had some sorta of personality that bothered me a little, IDK why, her husband has just died and she wanted her job [lt.] again... err, heck, IDK
I agree with lox3csimiami22, about the Cal thing, I don't think she was very very useful. Well, but that's my opinion

I think Kim Delaney is a wonderful actress. I really wish both she and her character had been given just a little more time to catch on (I think Delaney just needed a little more time to find her place and settle in the part.) because I think that character's position was important. I think Megan kept Horatio on track and I don't think we would see him on some of the tears we've seem him on if she were still there. She kept him honest. The Horatio that told Megan that the science was his discipline has been lost to us for some time now.

Megan, as second in command (although I never got the feeling she felt second - I always thought she still felt she was in charge ;)) was never shy about confronting Horatio if she thought he was losing focus or making a judgment without first having the science to back it up. While Calleigh is supportive, she hasn't shown an ability to actually challenge Horatio's decisions. Either she doesn't have that ability or she has no interest in doing so.

Horatio was written as someone who has amazing gut instinct. He relies a great deal on on his "feeling" and his ability to see all that is before him at the scene and reach a workable hypothesis. Then he finds the evidence to support the hypothesis. Megan was grounded in pure science and didn't believe in assuming anything. It was black and white to her. To her the evidence/science told the story and she didn't believe in speculation. Horatio really does need a strong character to pull him back and ground him sometimes and CSIM just hasn't had that since Megan left. I think her loss is one of the reasons Horatio has moved so far from what he once was. Giving Megan a little more time to find her place may have resulted in a wonderful yin/yang partnership.

I've stated before, and I'll reiterate it here, I think they need to add a strong female presence that provides not only support, but is the confidant that Horatio has never had (I always wondered why they didn't use Frank as a confidant for Horatio), who also provides the honest, in-your-face assessment of his actions. That's been missing since Megan left.

Yelina was there and strong in the beginning, and every once in a while she challenged Horatio, but they reduced her to playing games to get revenge when Horatio couldn't get past the fact she was his brother's wife and move their attaction forward. She began to date Stetler and flaunt it in his face to get even. That reduced my respect for that character.

Calleigh, has always supported Horatio, but I feel it was blind support. And the cold distance now, questionable actions on her part in the past few seasons, and her failure to stand up and challenge some of Horatio's more controversial actions, makes her a weak second in command, IMO.

Yeah. I'd love to see Megan come back - or bring on someone as strong as she was to offer up a counter to Horatio's powerful presence.

I don't remember Megan that well but she just didn't "click" with Horatio in the same way Catherine and Gil did on Las vegas to put an exemple.Actually with nobody from the cast. She was a great actress so I am not sure where was the problem.

Horatio needs a strong woman by his side ,I agree. When the show started ,Calleigh was too young and cheerful for him but Yelina has always been an excellent choice.Maybe the writers should bring yelina back as a regular and give her a good storyline.

In my opinion, I think Calleigh is a pretty good second-in-command but it would be nice if Yelina did come back with a nice storyline and everything.

I was intrested in the question about megan because i am curently going back over the seasons one by one for a fan fiction idea anyways i really liked megan but i always found that her and horatio were constantly this is right.....no this way is right and so forth and speed in the center of those two?? for a bit anyways

I too wish she didnt leave but for the short amount of time she was there we found out more about her life then we did of the rest of the team it took a while to find out bits and peices on the rest of them but yet megan within the first 6 eps we found out she had an uncle who was a priest, she went to catholic school, her husband died, calleighs comment to her about being miss 3 inch heels?? ,although in my eyes sometimes she seemed like she was a humming bird on six cups of coffee! anyways enough rambling now just wanted to say i liked megan if only......

I liked Megan Donner just fine as well. I thought she was a good second-in-command.

Rumor had it that Kim DeLaney and David Caruso didn't have good chemistry together as actors. So one of them eventually had to go.

I'm not even sure where the Yelina storyline came in. It seems like there were Kim DeLaney and Wanda DeJesus by Horatio's side before it was Yelina for a little while. At first Yelina was a kick-butt detective who saw a lot of action, but then her role got reduced to either dating Stetler or being sad about Ray Jr.

Yep. I've heard that as well. Another little ditty that Caruso's been blamed for (along with every actor who ever left the show did so because Caruso's such a monster!). He's been accused of being responsible for getting Kim Delaney fired because he didn't want to work with a NYPD Blue alum. It's a bunch of BS, but unfortunately all anyone has to do is say it and it becomes fact for those who hate. And they are more than happy to keep spreading it to anyone who'll listen until it becomes "fact".

I think they brought Yelina into the picture when they decided to expand on Horatio's personal life. I was really sorry to see Wanda DeJesus go. I really liked her and thought she did an excellent job.

Yelina started out with such promise. Then they turned her into a woman spurned looking to get even. She was apparently prepared to be patient, although obviously frustrated by Horatio's inability to get past the fact that she was his brother's wife - regardless of how much he may love her. Then Yelina sees Suzie and Madison and she proceeds to rather smuggly assume that Madison is Horatio's...and Horatio allows her to believe it rather than hurt her by telling her the truth, the child his Raymond's.

The next thing we see is Yelina dating Stetler after she expressly stated she would never do that. I might be mistaken about it being in the same episode, but I seem to remember when Horatio questions Yelina about when she started dating Stetler, Yelina specifcally accuses him of lying to her about having a daughter and indicating that it made it difficult to trust. She dates Stetler knowing the animosity that exists between the two men and knowing that was the surest way to hurt Horatio.

Then we are led to believe that Stetler is abusive in the relationship and Yelina covers for him.

It was frustrating and depressing to see them systematically take this strong, independent woman and change her first into a vindictive woman and then into the damsel in distress that needs be taken care of.

It would be nice to see her come back into herself. A lot of the strength has been on display in her last couple of appearance. I hope it continues.
