"What Friends Are For"- Nick/Greg friendship-Post "For Gedda"

Re: "What Friends Are For"- Nick/Greg friendship-Post "For Gedda"-spoi

I have written another chapter and was gonna post it today, but didn't get around to it. I'm gonna try to post it tomorrow. Though no promises cause I also have to pack tomorrow. I'm going out of town Thursday until Sunday afternoon and I won't have internet access while I'm gone. Maybe I'll get more written while I'm gone though.

Chapter Four

Nick sat down next to Greg on the couch. Greg was watching something on the comedy channel. Draven was on the floor at Greg's feet. "Greg, there's something that I need to tell you."

Greg clicked the tv off and looked at Nick. "What is it, Nick?"

"I thought the timing was odd, so I had Sara look into it."

"The timing of what?"

"Of what happened to your house."

"Oh."

"It just made me suspicious, you know. It didn't feel like it was an accident."

"You think someone was trying to kill me?" Greg asked in a terrified voice.

"I think that they knew that you weren't there. Anyway, I asked Sara to go take a look, see if she could find anything. But, I told her not to touch anything that might be evidence since she's no longer a CSI. So, she took Ronnie Lake with her since Ronnie's working Warrick's case anyway."

"Wait!" Greg said. "You think that what happened to my place is connected to what happened to Warrick?"

"Yes, it is."

"Is?"

"Sara and Ronnie found something."

"What?"

"A note in the mailbox. It warned our shift that if we snooped to find Warrick's killer that they body count would rise."

"Why my place though? We were not investigating. Why'd they pick my place?"

"They think that I'll get into the investigation I guess."

"Because Warrick was your best friend."

"One of my best friends. Greg, you are too. That's why they did this. It was a warning to me that if I didn't stay out of it, they'd hurt you too."

"Oh, God."

"But, I'm not going to let that happen, Greg."

"Should we tell Grissom about the note?"

"I'm sure Sara already has."

The house phone rang and Nick answered it. "Hello? Hey. Yeah, he's right here. Okay, yeah. We'll be there soon. Okay, bye." He hung up the phone. "We need to go to the lab."

Greg nodded. "I need to take Draven out first."

"I'll go with you."

"Nick, I'll be fine. He may be a sweet dog, but if anyone tried to hurt me, he'd protect me."

"Just humor me okay? I can't take any chances. I couldn't protect Warrick, but..."

"Nick..."

"Greg, do you have any idea how I felt when you were attacked that time? When we caught those guys, especially the leader... I... it took every ounce of energy I had not to pummel him. I don't take too kindly to people hurting my friends. My friends are like my family. I'd protect any of you just as I would my own siblings and parents."

"Nick, this situation is different. They have no reason to do anything now because we haven't investigated anything."

"I know, but still..."

"Okay, Nicky. Okay." Greg said as the three of them went outside.

~ ~ ~

Nick and Greg joined the rest of their co-workers (as well as Sara) in the break room. Ecklie and Brass were there along with some of the techs and some of the day shift. "What's going on, Griss?" Nick asked.

"Day shift found a print on the bullet casing from the gun used on Warrick." Ecklie informed him.

"Oh."

"It's McKeen."

"The undersheriff?" Archie asked.

"Yes, that's right."

"I called a judge for a warrant." Brass said.

"Do you think he and Pritchard are the only ones involved in this?" Cath asked.

"I don't know." Brass answered.

~ ~ ~

They found McKeen's car which had wrecked and Pritchard was dead inside of the car. McKeen had been captured and the cuffs were put on him. As he was being questions (on the spot) about anyone else's involvement, a shot rang out and McKeen fell to the ground, dead. It was obvious then that someone else was involved and that they did not want McKeen revealing their identity.

Good chapter! It's weird reading a different version of what happened after the season premiere, but good.

So, I wonder who shot McKeen. :shifty:

And who is after the team? Oh, everyone puts them peril!

Update soon.

Re: "What Friends Are For"- Nick/Greg friendship-Post "For Gedda"-spoi

Re: "What Friends Are For"- Nick/Greg friendship-Post "For Gedda"-spoi

I've really been enjoying this story. So McKeen is dead and another baddie is on the loose. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Chapter Five

She wasn't a CSI anymore, so she didn't think she was being watched like the others were. She wanted to find out who had been pulling the Undersheriff's strings. She wanted to know who had ordered him to kill Warrick. She decided to do some digging and investigating on her own. She didn't tell Grissom or any of the other CSIs. She didn't tell Brass either. She felt she had to do this. Warrick had been her friend too. And Greg was one of her best friends. He was one of the sweetest people she'd ever known. She wasn't going to let the bastard that ordered Warrick killed do the same thing to Greg.

She had a bad feeling that if she didn't get to McKeen's body before those responsible for his death did, that the bullet would be lost along with all chances of finding out who was behind Warrick's death and the destruction of Greg's home. She didn't want to lose the chance of nailing this bastard. She managed to get the bullet. She examined it for a print, but unfortunately there wasn't one. She ran the bullet through IBIS hoping to get a hit. The computer dinged, letting her know that it had found something. It can't be, she thought. This ammo was the same type issued to the FBI? How could that be? Why would the FBI want Warrick dead? Why would they threaten to harm Greg? What the hell was going on?

~~~
Nick awoke when he felt something cold and wet against his arm. He opened his eyes and saw Draven staring at him. "What is it, boy?" Draven put his paw against Nick's hand. Draven barked once and started walking toward the door. Nick deduced that the dog wanted him to follow him. Nick got out of the bed and followed the dog across the hallway to the door of Greg's room. Nick saw Greg tossing and turning in the bed. It was obvious that he was having a nightmare.
Nick leaned down to pet Draven. "Good boy." He said. He stood back up and walked into Greg's room and over to the bed. He put his hand on Greg's arm and shook him, trying to wake him. "Greg, wake up."
Greg startled awake, seeing a concerned Nick by his bed. "Nick?"
"You were having a nightmare. Draven noticed and came and got me."
"Oh."
"Do you remember it?"
"Yeah." Greg sat up. Nick sat down on the mattress beside Greg.
"Wanna talk about it?"
"Recent history repeated itself..."
"What?"
"Only it happened to me instead of to you."
"What?"
"Warrick was your best friend and he was killed."
"You dreamed that you were killed?"
"No."
Nick looked confused. "I don't understand. What did you dream then?"
"Sara..."
"You dreamed that Sara was killed?"
"Yeah." He got quiet for a few seconds. "You know, my family believes that my Nana is psychic or clairvoyant, whatever. What if I am too? What if something did happen to Sara?"
"It was just a nightmare, Greg. I'm sure Sara's fine."
"I don't know, Nicky. I can't shake this feeling that something bad is going to happen."
"Hang on." Nick said, leaving the room. He walked into his own room, grabbing his cell phone and dialing.
"Hello?" The familiar voice answered.
"Sara, it's Nick."
"Is something wrong? Is Greg okay?"
"He's fine. He was actually worried about you."
"Why?"
"He had a nightmare."
"What does that have to do with me?"
"Are you investigating on your own?"
"No, I'm not."
"Well, Greg dreamed that you were and that you got killed for it."
"Oh. Put him on the phone, please."
"Sure, hang on." Nick walked back into Greg's room and handed the younger man the phone.
"Greg?"
"Sara! You're okay."
"Of course I'm okay, Greg."
"You don't know how relieved I am to hear your voice."
"Do you want me to come over?"
"You wouldn't mind?"
"Of course not. I can go rent some movies or something."
"Okay."
"Anything in particular you want to see?"
"The new Mummy movie came out today."
"Okay. Anything else?"
"I don't know of anything else at the moment."
"Okay, I'll be there in a while."
"Thanks, Sara."
"No problem. See you in a bit."
"'Kay, in a bit." They both hung up their phones. Greg looked at Nick. "Thank you, Nick."
"Of course."
"Sara's coming over after she goes to the video store."
"Cool. I don't think either of us will be getting anymore sleep for a while anyway."
"Yeah." Greg looked across the room, seeing Draven sitting there. "Draven, come here boy." He clapped his hands and the dog obediently ran toward him. Greg began to pet the dog and then leaned down to give him a kiss above his nose. Draven wagged his tail and licked Greg's cheek. Greg smiled. "You're a good boy, Draven." He reached down beside the bed and stuck his hand in the box of dog treats. He pulled one out and gave it to the dog who took it happily.
Nick once again sat down beside Greg, petting Draven on the head. "He's such a smart dog." Nick noted.
"Yep!" Greg said proudly. "Lassie ain't got nothing on my boy. Ain't that right, Drave?" Greg put his nose against the dog's nose. "Yeah, that's my good boy." He gave the dog another treat.
~ ~ ~
She couldn't believe what she had discovered. She had to tell Brass. She didn't want to do it over the phone. Their phones could be tapped for all she knew. She decided that she had to tell him in person. She didn't see the vehicle following her until it was too late. The vehicle slammed into hers and she lost control of her own car. She swerved off the road and crashed into a tree. The last thing she heard before she drifted into unconsciousness was the voice of the OnStar operator.
Just for the record, I haven't decided who the "she" is yet. But, here's a hint: It can only be one of two people. :)
I wrote another chapter while I was out of town. I'll try to post it tomorrow sometime. :)
Re: "What Friends Are For"- Nick/Greg friendship-Post "For Gedda"-spoi
Honestly I can't read this. I've just tried... but it's too good. You've got me very upset over Warrick now and I think I've been doing better lately. I just almost started crying reading the first chapter. I just hate that this had to happen to my favorite show. And... wow... your version of it was so raw. Good... but like I said it's too good.
I may not be able to finish this story.
Re: "What Friends Are For"- Nick/Greg friendship-Post "For Gedda"-spoi
That scene with Nick and Warrick was so difficult to write. I was in tears while writing it. I just felt I had to cause I wasn't sure at the time who would be the first one of the team to get to the scene. I wanted badly for it to be Nicky though. Because I mean, Warrick was right there by Nick's side when they first found him after he'd been buried, so I felt it only proper that Nicky be there for Warrick. Unfortunately, the show's writers didn't feel that way.
Chapter Six
As soon as the doorbell rang, Greg practically ran for it. He checked to make sure it was Sara before opening the door. Sara barely got out a greeting before Greg was embracing her. "I'm so glad you're here and that you're okay." He told her.
"Greg, honey..." She started. "It was just a nightmare. Everything is okay."
"You know I love you, right?"
"What?"
"You know, like the sister I never had but always wanted." He clarified.
She smiled and kissed his forehead. "Yeah, I love you too, Greg." She hugged him again.
Nick walked into the room. "Oh, hey." He said to Sara. He greeted her with a smile and a hug.
"I brought the new Mummy movie as Greg requested. I also have the newest Indiana Jones movie cause I figured you guys would like that action and I would like looking at Harrison Ford. The man is like fine wine, gets better with age." The guys laughed as Sara continued. "I have Iron Man as well."
The doorbell rang again.
"I wonder who that could be." Greg said as Nick went to the door.
"Archie!" He said, surprised. "Hey, man. Come on in and join the mini-party." He laughed.
Archie walked inside, a few bags in his hands. "Hey, guys." He said and then upon seeing Sara added, "Hey, Sara."
"Hey." She smiled at the tech.
"What'cha got there, Arch?" Nick inquired.
"Oh, I um... Greg, this stuff is for you."
"For me?"
"Yeah, well.. Remember when you emailed me your list of CDs and DVDs and told me I could borrow any that I wanted?"
"Yeah."
"Well, first of all, here are the few that I did borrow." He said, handing one sack to Greg.
"Thanks. At least I didn't lose them all."
"Hey, Draven." Sara said, seeing Greg's dog in the kitchen. "Come here, boy." She knelt down and clapped her hands. The dog ran to her and she started to pet him.
"Everyone at the lab decided to pull our money together to replace the rest of your collection." Archie told Greg.
"What?" Greg said in shock. "You guys didn't have to do that."
"We know we didn't have to. We wanted to."
"I can't believe you guys did this."
"You're our friend, Greg." Archie said, setting the bags down.
"Thank you." Greg said, touched by the guesture. "So much." He hugged Archie.
"You're welcome."
"You guys are the best friends in the world." Greg said.
"And don't you forget it!" Nick teased.
"Believe me, I won't. Not ever."
"It's a good thing that you had brought your game system and all of your games over here before the fire." Archie said.
"Yeah."
"Hey, you guys wanna play Rock Band later?"
"Sure." They all said.
"Why later?" Archie asked.
"'Cause Sara brought movies." Greg nodded toward the tv where the dvds sat.
"Cool, the new Mummy. I haven't seen this yet."
"You're welcomed to stay and watch it." Nick told him.
"Cool!"
The four friends sat down and watched the movie. After it was over, they played Rock band. Greg was on guitar, Archie was on drums while Nick and Sara were on vocals. After playing a few rounds, they got ready to watch another movie. However, the phone rang before they could start it.
Greg groaned in protest. "Don't tell me we have to go into work."
"Hello?" Nick answered.
"Nicky, it's Catherine."
"Hey, Cath."
"I just wanted to let you guys know that Sofia's in the hospital."
"What happened?"
"Car accident."
"Is she okay?"
"They're still working on her. She was unconscious when they brought her in. I was here bringing Lindsey to visit a friend and I saw Jim here. He looked upset and I asked him what was wrong. He told me about the accident. Gil's here now. I called him. Anyway, just thought you'd want to know."
"Thanks, Cath."
"Do we have to go to work?" Greg asked once Nick had hung up the phone.
"No, we don't." Nick answered.
"What's wrong?" Sara asked.
"Sofia was in a car accident. She is unconscious. The doctors are working on her now."
Re: "What Friends Are For"- Nick/Greg friendship-Post "For Gedda"-spoi
Another great chapter. I wonder if Greg will now think Sofia is who his nightmare was really about.
Re: "What Friends Are For"- Nick/Greg friendship-Post "For Gedda"-spoi
hey, everyone. just wanted to post to say I haven't forgotten about the story. However, I don't know when I'll get another chapter up. My computer crashed today (I'm using my mom's laptop right now and the battery is about to go dead on it... I've got like half hour of juice left lol). Hopefully I can get my pc fixed by the end of the weekend.
