Vanessa Ferlito: You Can't Fake New York

CSI Files

Captain
Vanessa Ferlito has such a strong New York attitude the actress didn't even have to audition for the role of Aiden Burn.

"I never tested for it," she confessed. "They just offered it to me. I think I was the first one cast after Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor). I guess they wanted authentic New York, you know what I mean? New Yorker's have something. It is an energy. You can't fake it."

One thing the actress wasn't ready for was the animosity between CSI and its two spin-offs. Various stars from CSI have been vocal about their opposition to the creation of Miami and New York, or any future CSIs. William Petersen (Gil Grissom) feels the spin-offs dilute the appeal of the original version and hasn't been shy about voicing that opinion in public.

Ferlito, however, feels all this fighting is a waste of time and energy. "I am not interested in the cattiness," the actress said. "Are they number one? So why are they so negative about it [New York]? I heard all the bulls. You know what I feel? I feel like, dude, relax. Do you go home to your healthy family every night? Do you have clothes on your back? How dare you complain."

Ferlito did not mention anything about the new season of New York or the fate of her character, but revealed when she gets a gig she gives it her all. "I take on roles and I focus on the role. Then there are the actors that are just totally self-involved and their ego wildly out of control and love the fame. I don't need people to feed my ego. I want the recognition when I deserve it, period. I don't let anyone step all over me."

Good for her! It's about time one of them stepped up and said something about the bitch fights going on between the original and the spin offs. The way she said it was awesome.

Well of course she says that 'cuz she's in the spin-off. Obviously she wouldn't talk against it.

I, however, wonder what she would say if she was in the original one. The original CSI actors are definitely not the only ones having those feelings about the spin-offs anyway.

I seriously think she bulled it all.

In the media's eyes she seems as though she's one of the toughest and coolest chicks out there while other people mention she's the complete opposite.

In the media business, you deal with that EVERY DAY. If she's leaving because of that, then dear Lord there's no more hope.

She's very opinionated LOL. I thought that was a little unnecessary, but then like Angel said, she's in the spin off, so... some people are more passionate about different things than others and obviously Billy and Vanessa differ here LOL. I still think Originals are the best, but... that's just me :)

I can see how she'd be annoyed about the original actors ragging on the spin-offs. The original actors just happened to get their first, and their show is number one. Why rag on others who are just doing their jobs? I don't get it either.

But Vanessa's obviously got an attitude.

Agreed. The cast of the spinoffs are people too and are entitled to act in a CSI spinoff.

Why doesn't she just blow it off?

Seriously, if Billy is tell saying all that, it would make her look like the bigger person if she just ignores it and continues with CSI:NY.

She shouldn't let something like that bother her. It happens to everyone.

I agree. To me, it has always been childish and immature; the way the original cast has whined about the spinoffs. I mean, come on. You're on the #1 show. You have a steady job. You get paid. Stop whining already. There are plenty of actors who would gladly take Peterson's place; and not pitch a hissy fit about expanding the franchise.

I also agree with you, tuesdaymorning. If the cattiness is the reason she is leaving, I feel sorry for her. As an actress, you are going to have to deal with that sort of catty, backstabbing, whining every day.

I would hope it's not the cattiness causing her to leave, but I can see how it would be hurtful. Especially since NY is struggling a little in the ratings and could use the support of the CSI cast. It certainly wouldn't hurt.

I just don't see the need for the attitude from the actors on the original show. If anything, the spin-offs have bolstered the visibility of the original show. Certainly, they haven't hurt it or it wouldn't be the ratings powerhouse it is. So I really don't see the need for the bitching.

*shrug* At the very least, no matter how you feel about the issue, it has to be acknowledged that Vanessa has as much a right to her opinion as Petersen does.

I can tell you that if it weren't for Miami, I NEVER would've watched the original CSI, and I know I'm not the only one. So not only is the bitching incredibly immature, it's completely unfounded.

Nope...you're not the only one midnight. Miami is responsible for getting me into LV and NY both.

btw....Vanessa rocks! I love her attitude. :D

I agree completely there. If Peterson can get away with complaing about the spin-offs, I think she has every right to defend the show she's on. I'm actually a little suprised someone hasn't said something about it before.

The only thing that can really take away from the original being as good as it is, is if it actually stopped being good. (if that makes sense)

I don't think there's any bitch-fight actually. Her comment wants to make me think that the original CSI actors have nothing else to do but to complain about the spin-offs. Seriously, I think they don't give a damn.

They were asked about it... and they said an opinion. There's nothing wrong with that.. Vanessa seems to have a problem with their opinion -at least this is how this all comes off to me- and I think that's something she just has to deal with.

Besides... I read that William Petersen and Gary Sinise are actually good friends. So where's the fighting here? It's just all media... and a nice way for her to drag attention. :)

Same here, actually! "Grand Prix" was the first CSI show episode I saw. And I think a lot of people just happened to catch Miami first. I think there's room enough for all of the shows.
