"Turn On, Tune In, Drop Dead" Discussion *Spoilers*

I had fun with poor Superdave, and Nick in the beginning. But it wasn't as interesting as some eps. Save for two weeks ago, I haven't been really excited for a while.

I was a lot less bored during Two Mrs. Grissoms than either this week or last.

I watch a lot of fantasy stuff, so I have fun with the resurrections...either "they're immortals" like Highlander, or "vamps, look out!" like Buffy. (I so need to write a fic now...either Doc Robbins and a vamp, or a Highlander cross lol)

Why do we get a repeat next week?

Not my favorite episode by far. Started out bad with mentioning Haskell (although they did have to, after the way last week ended), got mildly interesting with the dead guy getting up, but then lost me again not too much later.

There were a few good moments - SuperDave fainting (you'd think he'd be used to it by now); D.O.AWOL ; Mitch cuffing the guy after he was hit by the car - but all the rest of it was confusing and boring. I think hiphugger17 has it right - Ray's slow, calm demeanor makes a nice contrast, but when there's too much of him, it's just boring.

My wish for the rest of the season: an episode where Nick doesn't draw his gun. :p Multiple-case episodes would be great too, but I'm losing hope for that.

I'm really disapointed. I was waiting for a good episode, since CSI is usually pretty good in these kind of things. And it was actually interesting in about first 10 minutes, but after it got clear why those kid were all "zombie-like",it just killed all the mystery on the episode. After that, it was just waiting which of the kids would die. And since I really didn't care about any of them, it just couldn't hold my intrest.

Well, if I have to say something positive about the episode, it was nice to see both Henry and Archie in the same episode. It good to know theres still some other lab rats there besides Hodges.:)

a few more thoughts:
- Howard Hesseman rocks as the harried scientist, but it started to get old very quickly! The whole Mad Scientist/whacked-out experiment storyline had me thinking back to the Pirates of the Third Reich episode.

- I liked seeing the new EMT lady. It sucks that Doc bitched her out on not having the equipment properly calibrated.

- It was quite noticeable that this show really doesn’t do well when it tries to overuse cliches & other humorous references. Unless the show goes really over the top (like with some of the lab rat episodes, or the one with Katey Sagal), the humor usually falls flat.

- the references to Sara’s mother came a bit as a surprise. After almost 11 seasons, I guess it’s finally about time!

- were Nick, Greg, or even Catherine really needed in this episode? I mean, really. As usual, it’s all about Ray. And why is it usually Sara that has to work with him?

Was not impressed with this episode at all. Nope I could have easily turned it off and that doesn't happen that often. This will go in the not to watch again category along with All In and Mascara. I haven't even decided if I'll cap it

Raynn, I agree it would be nice to see Nick without drawing the gun for a while. As much as Nick with gun is hot lets have him safely out of harms way for a bit.

Seeing a little of the EMT was a nice touch though Doc really busted her in the end. The only thing was that she was just an unsub in Criminal Minds and I kept thinking "she's not good news, she's crazy!!!" If it wasn't her then she looked a lot like her!!

Glad I'm not the only one who thought that!

I guess I'm in the minority because I rather enjoyed this episode.
There were a lot of pop culture references that seemed forced at times, but we were essentially travelling back in time to the 70's, so I enjoyed the nostalgia a bit. The girl being named Alice was clearly not a coincidence. I was expecting the inevitable 'Alice doesn't live here anymore', but didn't get that one. Jefferson Airplane as background music would have been a nice touch, too. :)

Sara and Ray were the primaries, but I thought the rest of the ensemble did good work. I enjoy seeing work done in the lab; so I liked seeing Catherine participate, as well as Archie and Henry. There was more science than action in this, which I liked. And, Doc has been underused of late, so I enjoyed his scenes.
Except for not having a police escort at the end, I thought the scene where Nick found Alice was nicely done by George. And, I thought 'Johnny Fever' did a credible job. I figured drugs would be involved.

Sara looked great in this! loved the beanie. I liked her mother being referenced. 'Altered States' was a bizarre movie; certainly not 'calming'; and taking a small child to see it? Yikes!

A lot more things I didn't mention; it was full of puns and references, some humorous. I'll watch it again, for sure.
I give this one a solid 'B'.

ETA: Favorite quote.
Dr. Aden, "What's your clearance, soldier?"
Sara, "About 5-9"

It wasn't THAT bad for me. Not "Mascara" bad. I still say too many cooks in the kitchen tho. But the Nick bits were cap-able for me, especially there at the end. :p Definitely not as good as last week tho. :)

I guess it just wasnt' my type of show. I did cap Nick though :) what can I say but I'm a die hard Ward Girl :)

Not a great episode, but it wasn't as bad for me as it was for others. I could've done without the whole Haskell recap at the beginning; hubby groaned at that. But once the episode got rolling and "Johnny Fever" made his entrance, I rather enjoyed it (though I thought Howard Hesseman played his character a little too over-the-top).

Having seen "Altered States" back when it was released, and gone to high school and university in the '70s, I got all the references, so that was kind of fun. Hubby is nine years younger and got them, too. I thought the part about Alice was oddly written, though. There didn't seem to be enough of a line through to her from beginning to end, I suppose because they were angling for a "twist" at the end. The reunion with her mother would've had a lot more resonance if we'd seen more of her character and really experienced the pain she was feeling over her mother's death. The brief glimpse of that at the end wasn't quite enough, IMO . . . though George and the gal who played Alice still did a good job with that scene.

Loved Jorja in this episode; her reactions to Hesseman were hilarious. My favorite exchange between them:

Dr. Aden: "What's your clearance?"
Sara: "Oh, about 5'9"."

Well all I have to say is..

I've seen this same plot before. In a movie called Flatliners, 1990 starring Julia Roberts, Kevin Bacon and a bunch of other actors i can't recall.

Yes exactly. Not only Flatliners, also reminded me of Fringe. The mad scientist of the week was a lot like the mad scientist in Fringe i think.:p

Sometimes the episode is better than the preview and like now, sometimes the episode doesn't give you what you saw on the preview. At least i saw Archie, Doc,Super Dave...:vulcan:

Every time I see a "zombie" episode, I always think back to that "Miami Vice" episode with Clarence Williams III. I know this was a different plot (I never saw "Flatliners," so I can't comment on that), but that episode is always going to be my reference point.

Finally, it was so nice to see CSI featuring a heavy sized woman for a change, but then they had to spoil it all by making her a dimwit. Nice going CSI..you're really progressing well in featuring diverse actors in a positive way..

That thought actually crossed my mind as well when I was watching it.

And I didn't realize it was the woman from Criminal Minds, but now I see it! That makes her character here seem creepy then.

Not the greatest, too much Ray, writers you need to even things out and not make them SO RAY HEAVY, THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WENT WRONG WITH SEASON 9!!!!!! :scream::scream::scream:

The ep started off on the right foot and the ending was good too, the middle of was just...grrr :scream:

I like David getting some attention, poor thing that'd freak me out too, having some trouble with Mrs. Phillips but soon saying the "I'm sorries" :)

Even though I'm completely annoyed with Haskell, glad to see there's some continuation, wish there had been some with Bieber even though again annoyed

Nice to see lots of Sara, mentioning her mom and being from San Francisco

I missed my Greg, not much of him and I had high hopes of him having lots of screentime :(:scream::mad: I had a feeling this was going to happen after AKBF, APRIL HAD BETTER BE BETTER!!!!!

No Hodges but there were some funny comments about him, nice to see Archie and Henry, that's like the 2nd time Henry has been in the morgue this season

"DOAWOL, that was a joke Conrad" and "what's your clearance" "About 5' 9""

My parents said that Howard Hessman (Aden) normally does comedy, they and I thought he did a good job

Shouldn't Brass or Mitch have been with Ray and Sara at the end

Nice scene between Ray and Al at the end :) Nick and Alice too
