*CHAPTER 3*
*Disclaimer*-I should probably work on getting rights to CSI:Miami, which I still don't have.

As Calleigh ran toward Eric, he watched as if watching a movie in slow motion. He saw Jack out of the corner of his eye cocking the gun, but before he could tell Calleigh to move, Jack fired his gun, sending a bullet through Calleigh’s back, entering deep into her abdomen and exiting out of the front of her abdomen. The silence after the shot was fired was broken by the sound of Calleigh’s prone body hitting the ground. The look of agony and fright that was captured like a painting on Calleigh’s face, allowing all to see what Calleigh was feeling at that moment, would forever be etched in Eric’s memory.

Before the smoke cleared from the barrel of Jack’s gun, the elevator doors had closed, allowing Jack to get away from the scene of the heinous act he had just performed. Eric was forced with a decision to either stay by the side of the woman he loved, or go after the man that shot her. He quickly ran over to Calleigh’s side and knelt down next to her.

Eric examined the severity of the damage, and it was quite obvious that there was severe internal damage done. He quickly got his cell phone out and called for an ambulance. He yelled into the phone "This is Eric Delko, I need an ambulance at the lab, there is an officer down!" Calleigh was losing a lot of blood quickly. A puddle of blood was beginning to form about her. Eric carefully turned Calleigh over, so that she was looking up at him. He smiled and whispered softly to her " Cal , don’t worry your gonna be okay." Eric took his shirt off, and pressed it against the exit wound.

Calleigh tried her hardest to smile as Eric took his shirt off right in front of her. She couldn’t believe all of this had happened, and all because she was too chicken to tell Eric how she really felt. Her efforts to speak were quickly squelched by the agonizing coughing that was causing her to cough up blood. A light "Thank you." finally managed to escape Calleigh’s lips. Breathing was becoming increasingly difficult for Calleigh. She took Eric’s hand, looked up into his eyes, and whispered "Eric, I have something to tell you" knowing that this was the right moment to tell Eric how she felt. She knew she didn’t have much longer left, she could feel the life slowly drifting out of her body.

Just as Calleigh inhaled to try and find the ability to speak, she began to cough violently. Blood spewed rapidly from her mouth. Eric tried to clean up the blood that escaped onto her face. Seeing Calleigh like this was breaking Eric’s heart. His anger and hatred for Jack grew greater each moment his eyes were burdened with the sight of Calleigh in such a horrible state.

Finally the faint sound of sirens could be heard, speeding their way to lab to get Calleigh. " Cal , fight just a little longer. The ambulances are close." Eric said, trying to reassure Calleigh. He lightly ran his hand over Calleigh’s forehead. Eric’s heart was filled with emotion. He wanted so bad to tell Calleigh how he felt and he had planned on telling her only less than hour from then.

About two minutes later the ambulance pulled up to the lab. Eric got up and ran to the window, yelling to the EMTs that they were upstairs. Immediately, he ran back to Calleigh’s side and reassured her that the paramedics were coming up the elevator as he spoke. Calleigh simply knodded, acknowledging that she heard him. She knew she had to tell him how she really felt soon, because the next few hours might prove to be her last.

It was only moments later that the medics rushed towards them, pouring out of the elevator like ants out of an ant hill. Once the EMTs were working on getting Calleigh onto a stretcher, one of them walked over to Eric and asked him what happened. "I don’t know. Calleigh ran out the elevator, and a man shot her.
Calleigh laid back and watched as the EMTs loaded her up to the stretcher, her eyes never leaving Eric. She watched as the head EMT questioned him about how everything happened. As the EMTs moved Eric’s now completely blood drenched shirt that had been next to her wound, they all began to rush around to get something to stop the bleeding. Eric heard this and whipped around from the conversation with the EMT to the stretcher and began to run with them as they ran to the elevator.

When one of the EMTs tried to stop Eric from coming, Eric simply looked up at him, with just a portion of the incurable and quietly said "You can try and stop me from coming." Calleigh couldn’t respond but she heard Eric’s comment and smiled. She was so enthused that Eric cared enough about her to start up and tell the EMT that he was going.

As they boarded the ambulance, Eric called Horatio. "H, it’s Delko, meet me at the hospital." Horatio responded with his usual "I’m on my way." Eric shut off his phone and then focused back on Calleigh. His heart was tearing to shreds seeing Calleigh in this state.

Calleigh laid there, completely focused on him. She asked him to lean down so she could whisper something to him. Eric leaned in asking her "What’s up Cal ?" Cal mustered up the ability of speak long enough to choke out "Please don’t leave me." Eric took Calleigh and told her, "Over my death body will I leave you." His eyes were so focused on hers, and he thought for a second that he may have see a shimmer of interest in there. Eric knew however it wasn’t time for that. He then realized that he was wearing the necklace of the stone that Calleigh had give him on their first case together. It would always bring him good luck, so he hoped it wouldn’t fail him now.

Calleigh’s stayed transfixed on Eric until she began to cough violently again, spraying blood everywhere. Her vitals went ballistic. She was fading away. The EMTs rushed something into her IV bag to try and get her vitals to calm, but it wasn’t working. Finally she flat lined. Eric’s heart shank down to his shoes when he heard the sickening tone of the flat line. EMTs were however able to bring her back by inserting another drug into her IV, and pushing some of blood out of her lungs. The drug took her to a blissful sleep.

Finally they got to the hospital. Before the EMTs unloaded Calleigh from the ambulance, Eric leaned down and lightly kissed Calleigh’s forehead, knowing he wouldn’t have to explain himself later. Just then the EMTs ripped open the doors of the ambulance, unloaded her, and began to run inside with her. Eric was right next to her still. He sprinted with them until they hit the cold metal doors of the ER. This would be where he had to stop. He watch intently until Calleigh was completely out of site.

Eric turned around, and was greeted by Horatio. "I’m gonna kill the man who did this." Horatio tried in his own way to reassure Eric "We’ll get him Eric."

Eric then punched the wall in fury, "NO H!! He’s a dead man." If it was the last thing Eric did, he was going to make sure that Jack died for what he did to Calleigh. He loved her with all of his heart, and the thought of him never being able to tell her how he felt turned his blood cold. However, now it was a matter of waiting.

*CHAPTER 4*
*Disclaimer*-I'm not on the ball. I still don't own CSI:Miami.

(Sorry it took me so long)

Eric paced around the hospital, fearing the worst, but hoping for the best. Knowing his track record in hospitals, he wasn’t holding out much hope. He looked around the waiting room of the hospital, and acknowledged everyone he’d lost that was close to him.

It felt like the walls were beginning to cave in on Eric in the tiny waiting room he was in. Fatigue was beginning to set in. He looked up at the clock on the wall that read 9:20. He knew he’d fall asleep where he stood if he didn’t get a cup of coffee, so he decided to take a walk to the cafeteria to get some.

As he walked down the dark hallway, the events of the day played through Eric’s head like a movie. He could still smell the gun powder from Jack’s gun as he shot Calleigh. He could still see the horrified look on Calleigh’s face when the bullet tore its way into her body.
Eric stopped in the bathroom and splashed some water on his face. When he looked up into the mirror, he was surprised to see the angry face staring back at him. He knew that this had an effect on him. He could feel the hate inside of him growing, beginning to consume him.

Once Eric left the bathroom, he went to the elevator, and rode it down to the bottom floor. The soft tones of the elevator music couldn’t find their way into Eric’s ears. His mind was too consumed with the woman he loved hanging between life and death just two floors above him.

Eric stepped out of the elevator and went to straight ahead to the cafeteria. He walked up to the counter to order a cup of coffee and stopped, not believing who he saw behind the counter. Jack’s face was staring at him. He couldn’t believe it. He rubbed his eyes violently to see if the image his mind had created would change. Sure enough when his eyes reopened, he saw the face of a very perplexed teenager. He just smiled at him, ordered his coffee, paid and left.

He couldn’t believe the tricks his mind was playing on him. He could have sworn he saw Jack’s face behind that counter. He was quickly convinced that he was losing it. He needed sleep, he thought as he traveled back up the elevator.

Meanwhile, Calleigh’s struggle between life and death continued. As the EMTs took Calleigh into the hospital room, Calleigh dreamt of the future. Her perfect future with Eric. She dreamt of a house out in the country, with a white fence, and the kids playing in the yard with the dogs. Her and Eric would be standing on the porch of the house, watching it all. Calleigh would turn to Eric and tell him how much she loved him, and would kiss him lightly.
Nothing in the world would be better. This was her vision of paradise. However, everything wasn’t as perfect outside of her dreams. She had lost a lot of blood, and her vitals were beginning to slip.

Doctors were trying everything they could to stop the bleeding, but the bullet had caused a lot of internal damage. It seemed like just a matter of time before the doctors lost Calleigh all together.

Calleigh’s dreams shielded her from the harsh reality that she was teetering between the land of the living and the land of the dead. She remained still oblivious to the world around her, as she dreamt of her perfect future.

As doctors rushed to stabilize the wounded and near dead Calleigh, her own connection to the outside world was beginning to fade. The doctors worked for almost three hours to get Calleigh’s vitals stabilized, and finally it was happening. This however was coming with a very dear price. Though Calleigh’s vitals stabilized and the bleeding was contained, she had slipped off into a coma due to the severe blood loss.

As Eric walked back into the waiting room with his coffee in hand, he was met by the main doctor that had been working on Calleigh. He stood about 6’0, built frame, short black hair, looked to be about 30 years old. "Eric Delko?" The doctor said as he walked up to him.

"Yeah. How’s Calleigh?" Eric asked impatiently.

"Hi, I’m Dr. Miller. Calleigh’s stabilized and the bleeding was contained. However, she’s slipped into a coma."

As Eric heard the news, his heart sank down to his shoes. He had expected this to happen. Everyone close to him was hurt, and he knew that. That’s why he didn’t want to get close to her. He didn’t want her hurt too, but now that was too late.

The Dr. put his hand on Eric’s shoulder, and told him "I’m sorry son, maybe you should go in and talk to her. "

Eric nodded and followed Dr. Miller to Calleigh’s room. He quietly entered, shutting the door behind him, and sat down in the brown chair next to her. He felt himself change inside when he saw Calleigh as helpless as she was. He couldn’t believe that the strong woman he knew and loved was reduced to such a helpless state, and all because of a sick man who wanted to senselessly kill.

Eric took Calleigh’s hand with his own and got closer to Calleigh. "I know somewhere in there you can hear me. So I’m going to talk, and you’re going to listen. You can’t leave me Cal. You have to stay here with me. The lab won’t be the same without you." Eric stopped for a second to regain himself. He let a few tears fall from his eyes. The drops of water fell from his cheeks, and landed on his black t-shirt, leaving their mark on it. "Please Cal , you have to stay for me. I love you, and I don’t want to live without you."

All of the sudden, Eric looked down at his hand holding Calleigh’s hand. As Calleigh’s hand began to squeeze his, showing a last ditch sign of life. Eric smiled, wiping the tears from his eyes. He leaned in and kissed Calleigh’s lips and whispered to her "I promise, he’ll pay for this. No matter what." Eric’s hand then went to Calleigh’s pocket and pulled out her cell phone, knowing that it would be a helpful tool in Eric’s pursuit killing Jack.

Only seconds after Eric’s mouth closed, finished with his promise, Calleigh’s battle between life and death ended. She held on long enough to hear Eric tell her he loved her. Then Calleigh’s dreams that were running wild inside of her head were slowly cut to blank whiteness, as if the dreams were a movie that had its film cut. The toll of heart monitor ranged as Calleigh’s heart ceased to beat, and she slowly slipped away. Eric could feel the life leave Calleigh’s body as he held her close, allowing a few more tears to fall as he was forced to face the fact that the woman he loved her gone.

As the doctors rushed into the room, Eric was cast aside, made to leave the room, so that maybe the doctors could save her. Eric knew it was futile though. She was gone. He could feel that she was gone. Eric turned and left the hospital, a very changed man.

OK, first: thank you for the update, and now... *sobs* :(

So sad! Did you really just kill her? *cries*

Great intense and dramatic story, I will wait patiently (ahem... ;) ) for the next chapter

You killed Calleigh :(...you killed her ...you killed Calleigh :(...I could go on forever but I won't!

This is quite intense, packed with so much dramatic events that actually continues as it goes along (unlike the show), and delves deep into the characters' emotions and story lines.

All-in-all, I love it...but you did not just kill Calleigh! (I'm in denial!)

Oh, it's also great that this is well-written. The grammar, dialogue, and characterization is amazing. Great job, Joe! :)

I'll be over yonder, waiting patiently for your updates, but you killed Calleigh!

Laters...

Luv yall...
