THE FLASH
Season 3 Premiere - Tuesday, October 4th at 8pm ET/7pm CT

Until recently, 25 year-old Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) lived a normal life as a perpetually tardy C.S.I. in the Central City Police department. He was secretly in love with his best friend, Iris West (Candice Patton), daughter of Barry's surrogate father, Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin). Joe adopted Barry fourteen years ago after Barry's mother was murdered and Barry's father, Henry Allen, received a life sentence for the crime – though Barry always maintained that a mysterious "Man in Yellow" was responsible. Then the S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator exploded, creating a dark matter lightning storm that struck Barry, bestowing him with super-speed and making him the fastest man alive. But Barry wasn't the only person who was given extraordinary abilities that night. The dark matter also created meta-humans, many of whom have wreaked havoc with their powers on the city. With the help of his new scientist friends at S.T.A.R Labs, Caitlin Snow (Danielle Panabaker), Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), and Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanaugh), Barry began a journey as The Flash to protect the people of Central City from these powerful new threats. But Barry's journey was a lonely one; in order to keep Iris safe, he concealed his abilities from her, and could only watch from the sidelines as she built a romantic relationship with Joe's partner, Eddie Thawne.

Barry's mission as The Flash was sidetracked when he came face to face with the Man in Yellow. Barry wasn't fast enough to catch him, but in a shocking revelation the team figured out their beloved mentor, Harrison Wells, was actually the Man in Yellow, and the man responsible for killing Barry's mother. Wells revealed his true identity as Eobard Thawne, a man from the future, coincidentally descended from Eddie Thawne, who traveled back in time to kill Barry. As The Flash appeared about to lose this final battle with his nemesis, and with the struggle between the two opening a rip in space and time, a Singularity, that threatened to destroy them all, Eddie Thawne sacrificed his own life in order to save Central City and to change the course of history.

Now, in Season Two, thanks to Eddie Thawne's sacrifice, Eodard Thawne has been defeated. But Barry was unable to prove that Thawne killed his mother, so his father remains in prison for a crime he didn't commit. And a new ally, Jay Garrick, will arrive with news that the Singularity opened portals to an alternate Earth, with a terrifying new enemy named Zoom now on the horizon.

Series Overview
After witnessing his mother's (Michelle Harrison) supernatural murder and his father's (
John Wesley Shipp) wrongful conviction for the crime, Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) is taken in by Detective Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) and his family. Allen becomes a brilliant but socially awkward crime scene investigator for the Central City Police Department. His obsession with his tragic past causes him to become an outcast among his peers; he investigates cold cases, paranormal occurrences, and cutting-edge scientific advancements that may shed light on his mother's murder. No one believes his description of the crime—that a ball of lightning with the face of a man invaded their home that night—and Allen is fiercely driven to vindicate himself and to clear his father's name. Fourteen years after his mother's death, an advanced particle accelerator malfunctions during its public unveiling, bathing the city center with a previously unknown form of radiation during a severe thunderstorm. Allen is struck by lightning from the storm and doused with chemicals in his lab. Awakening after a nine-month coma, he discovers he has the ability to move at superhuman speeds. Dr. Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh), the disgraced designer of the failed particle accelerator, describes Barry's special nature as "metahuman"; Allen soon discovers that he is not the only one who was changed by the radiation. Allen vows to use his gifts to protect Central City from the escalating violence of metahuman criminals and other felonious individuals. In the process, as a masked superhero, The Flash, Allen accumulates a number of enemies known as The Rogues while pursuing the Reverse-Flash (Matt Letscher; Cavanagh, in Wells' likeness), who is his mother's superhuman murderer. He is aided by a few close friends and associates who guard his secrets.

Six months after the events of the first season, after a
singularity event, the Flash is recognized as Central City's hero. However, the event brings an evil from a parallel universe to Central City in the form of the speedster Zoom (Teddy Sears; voiced by Tony Todd; Ryan Handley, in costume) who seeks to eliminate everyone connected to the Speed Force throughout the multiverse. Harrison Wells' parallel universe counterpart, and his daughter Jesse (Violett Beane), work to help Barry and his friends stop Zoom. Joe and his daughter, Iris (Candice Patton), struggle with their shared painful past related to their family, especially after the arrival of Iris's brother Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale), whom Francine West (Vanessa A. Williams) gave birth to shortly after abandoning her family. After Zoom kills Barry's father, the season concludes with Barry travelling back in time to save his mother's life from the Reverse-Flash.

Cast
Grant Gustin as Barry Allen / Flash:
A
Central City assistant police forensic investigator. Moments after an explosion at the S.T.A.R. Labs particle accelerator, Barry is struck by lightning in his laboratory and doused by chemicals affected by the accident. When he awakens from a nine-month coma, he has superhuman speed. In September 2013, Grant Gustin was cast in the titular role. Andy Mientus, who would eventually be cast as Hartley Rathaway, also auditioned for the role. Gustin began researching the character during the audition process, and reading as many comics as possible. Gustin primarily focused on The New 52 series of comics, because he knew it would be difficult to read everything and he felt the New 52 was the closest to the show's "look and feel". Gustin also portrays the Earth-2 version of the character, Barry Allen, who is not the Flash on this Earth.

Candice Patton as Iris West:
She is the daughter of Detective West and Barry Allen's best friend and longtime crush. She works at Central City Picture News as a journalist. Patton also portrays the Earth-2 version of the character, Iris West-Allen, who is a detective at the Central City Police Department.

Danielle Panabaker as Dr. Caitlin Snow:
Named after the civilian identity of the DC Comics character
Killer Frost. A highly intelligent bioengineering expert, Caitlin believed her fiancé, Ronnie Raymond, was killed during the particle accelerator explosion at S.T.A.R. Labs, until he returned part way through first season. Ronnie and Caitlin get married in the first season finale, "Fast Enough". Panabaker also portrays the Earth-2 version of the character, Caitlin Snow / Killer Frost.

Rick Cosnett as Eddie Thawne:
A recent transfer to the Central City Police Department, Eddie's past is a mystery and he harbored a dark secret. He is partner to Detective Joe West and Iris West's love interest. Cosnett left the series after the first season, following his character's sacrifice to wipe
Eobard Thawne, his distant descendant, from history.

Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon / Vibe: A mechanical engineering genius, Cisco is the youngest member of the team of scientists at S.T.A.R. Labs. Valdes also portrays the Earth-2 version of the character, Cisco Ramon / Reverb, a metahuman who works for Hunter Zolomon / Zoom.

Tom Cavanagh as Dr. Harrison Wells:
The mind and money behind Central City's S.T.A.R. Labs Particle Accelerator, Wells becomes a pariah after the lab explodes. He serves as Barry's mentor after he gains his powers and teaches Barry how to further develop his powers and abilities. He is eventually revealed to be Professor
Eobard Thawne / Reverse-Flash (portrayed by Matt Letscher), the Flash's time-travelling archenemy from the future, descended from Eddie, who murdered the real Wells while transmuting his appearance as his own. Cavanagh later portrays the Earth-2 version of Harrison Wells, nicknamed Harry, in season two. Harry travels to Earth-1 to seek help in rescuing his kidnapped daughter Jesse, and becomes a part of Barry's team.

Jesse L. Martin as Joe West:
A police detective who acts as a surrogate father to Barry, after his mother's death and father's imprisonment, and who is the father of Iris and Wally. Martin also portrays the Earth-2 version of the character, a musician.

Keiynan Lonsdale as Wally West / Kid Flash:
The son of Joe and brother of Iris, born without their knowledge after his mother left Central City. The producers disliked the introduction of relatives of characters that were never previously mentioned, feeling it was "weird", and opted instead to introduce Wally as unknown even to his relatives. They also chose to make him Iris' brother, a departure from the comics where he was her nephew. Speaking on Lonsdale's casting, Kreisberg explained that "Just like when we met Grant [Gustin] for the first time, we instantly knew Keiynan embodied all the heart and courage of a hero." Wally will become Kid Flash in season 3.

Tom Felton as Julian Albert:
A crime-scene investigator at the Central City Police Department and colleague of Barry Allen. According to Felton, Julian and Barry initially share a somewhat abrasive relationship because the former "treads on the toes of much of what Barry is good at". The character was originally named Julian Dorn.
