Las Vegas, the city where normal life goes out the window and is replaced by the billions of neon lights and casinos. Sara Sidle knew the feeling. Even though she lived in Vegas, and was used to the bizarreness that went with it, Sara's life never ceased to get a little crazier every time she stepped out her front door. Sara saw dead bodies on a daily basis and was dating her boss. She thought she had seen it all, but she wasn't even close.
Chapter 1: The Beginning
(Greg’s POV)
It was a rainy day in Las Vegas when the blurry lights of the strip reflected onto drenched streets. Greg walked into the break room glancing at his colleagues but was searching for one in particular. He finally spotted her from across the room lounging on the sofa. She looked so beautiful with her dark hair spread out over the arm rest. He walked up and plopped himself down beside her. "Hey, Sara." He put his arm around her.
She grinned, “Hey, Greg."
He loved when she said his name. This was the first time he had the guts to put him arm around her.
He glanced over at Warrick, Catherine in his lap. Tina had left Warrick for her ex and now Catherine was his newly-wed. The wedding was nice. He couldn't get the sight of Sara in her dazzling bridesmaid's dress out of his mind. He got to dance with her at the reception until Grissom cut in.
"Hey, I got the new Evanescence cd. It’s pretty bad ass.”
"Sweet, I didn’t know it was out yet.”
“Yea well I got connections.”
Just then Grissom walked in with a fairly animated look on his face.
"We have an overload today, 3 cases. Greg, Sara you take the car pile-up off I-15. Catherine, Warrick, you take the officer involved shooting, and Nick and I will take the casino robbery." Grissom passed out the cases and gave Sara a slight peck on the cheek before turning to leave.
That tore every nerve in Greg's body up for many reasons. He couldn't stand Sara being with anyone but him. And what man with that amazing of a woman just gives her a simple peck on the cheek? But then for some reason he felt jealous of Sara.
"Ok Greg, I'm driving this time. And bring your new cd." She gave him that sparkling smile she had and walked out of the break room.
-----------------------
On their way to the crime scene, Evanescence was blaring in the background and Greg was attempting to sing Sweet Sacrifice. Sara just smiled and sang along. She loved hanging with Greg. He was always so fun to be with. He was head banging, playing the air drums with his blond hair sticking out in all directions from the help of copious amounts of hair gel.
“Hey Greg, Greg, Greg!” She was practically shouting over the voice of Amy Lee. Greg quickly turned down the stereo and apologized.
“Sorry, Sara. Just getting into the music.”
“It’s okay. It sounds awesome. So how have things been going with you and Paige?”
“Ahh, we broke up. Just wasn’t working out. How are you and Grissom doing?”
“Pretty good, but he has been acting a little weird lately. Sometimes I think he spends more time with his bugs than he does with me.”
Greg let out a small smile. He wanted to blurt out his feelings, but just managed to say, "You’re lucky.” Sara just gave him a look, but by then they had already arrived at the crime scene so she let it go.
The sight was rather gory. Four cars all smashed together like animals at the zoo. The rain had let up but that didn't stop the blood from running everywhere. Sara approached one of the cars and started to snap pictures of the scene. Greg was behind her noting how many bodies were found.
"Sara… Do you love him?"
Sara turned around and gave Greg the infamous Sara stare. A shiver went up Greg's spine when he realized he might have gone too far.
"Yes Greg." Sara stood up but her shoes slid on the wet concrete and she slipped, but Greg caught her in his strong arms. For many long moments they just gazed into each others' eyes. Sara smiled and managed to stand.
“Thanks, Greg.” She ruffled his hair and went over to another one of the pan caked cars. Greg just stood there but then got back to work with a smile on his face.
--------------------------
She bent over beside one of the other compressed cars. She was taking blood samples when she looked into one of the rearview mirrors and saw Greg's spiked blond hair and his charming face. He was talking to one of the witnesses questioning her on what she had seen. He was wearing that same ear ring he had gotten around Warrick and Catherine's wedding. She remembered dancing with him and looking up noticing the metallic stud. She must have danced with him for 3 songs before Grissom cut in. But she didn't mind. She shook the worthless thought from her mind and proceeded with her work. Besides, she had a date with Grissom that night.
-------------
“Hello?”
“Sara?”
“Oh hi honey.”
“Hey, I think we have to cancel our date for tonight.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m having my house sprayed for termites. It’s a last minute thing. I’m sorry. I’m already on my way to my townhouse. I’m just glad I caught you before you left work.”
“It’s okay. So I’ll call you later?”
“Sure, talk to you later, bye.”
Sara closed her silver flip phone and sighed. ‘Guess I don’t have plans tonight.’
As Sara was driving home, she noticed Greg's SUV outside a local bar and decided to stop by. As she walked in, the smell of alcohol was in the air. Greg was at the pool table playing on his own.
"Hey, Greg."
Greg quickly turned around then smiled at her.
"Hey, Sara."
"Mind if I play?"
"Sure, but I’m warning you. I’m the pool master."
"We'll see about that."
Sara started to feel nervous as she played. 'Why are you nervous? He's your best friend. Just two friends hanging out.' But then things got more complicated when Greg won.
"What do I owe you, Greg?"
"Hmm... ha ha, how 'bout a kiss?" He let one of his huge smiles go.
Sara bit her lip. "Ok."
“Really?”
She approached Greg and met her lips with his. Sara was amazed at how great of a kisser he was. What a spark!!!
“Wow.”
"I have to go. See ya later, Greg." She grabbed her keys and left in a hurry.
