Stetler#1: he needs his own life!!!

I don't think that he actually hit Yelina intentionally, though. It just seems too out of character for him. It actually annoys me a bit, as it seems to have been thrown in there as a one-time plot device, rather than anything that would later be explained or followed up on...

Exactly. Although was it ever mentioned what the supposed 'fight' was about? I can't remember.

It would be nice to see a follow-up.

As you said it's completely out of his character. He's a serious person who helps the team when it's in his powers and always tries to do the right thing in order to protect the city of Miami, legally;).

Even if he does have it out for Horatio sometimes because he wanted to be promoted to Lieutenant but Horatio got it. So I can understand why he resents H and hates being IAB and like you said, also because he has to be the bad guy to everyone no matter what side they're on.

Sometimes I get pissed off ,but I understand he's just doing his job. For example "Stand Your Ground" when I heard that he was investigating on Calleigh I was mad, but, honestly, he just did his job and he was right about the whole situation. I felt so sad for him.

Me too. I like that he's a sympathetic character and that he's not just a cardboard cut-out. :) He has an interesting dynamic with the team and it's clear he's nowhere near perfect.

I love Stetler. I mean sure, it seems like he sometimes has it out for the team, but if you think about it, he is just doing his job. Stetler himself said "Everybody hates IAB." But it's his job and he has to do it. I'm sure if we looked at it from his side, the Miami team does a lot of things that shouldn't be allowed. Like working on cases they have a connection to, or when Ryan got fired for gambling on the job to pay back a debt. Some people say "Why did Stetler have to fire Ryan?" Well it is his job, and it was Ryan's fault to begin with. I think he does actually care about the team, and if he didn't have to do half the things he does to them, he wouldn't.

I don't see him as a bad guy at all, just sometimes annoying or a little arrogant. I agree with everyone who's saying they can't see him hitting a woman. I can't see him doing that, and I never really liked how they threw that into the series, and of course like Miami is good at, never following up on it.

This is interesting. I like the contrast that Stetler brings to the show. He is a wonderful foil for Horatio.:p

I know it has been said that some don't like Stetler because he has investigated this CSI or that CSI, but in all fairness, we have to remember that is his job. IAB is not the most loved department in the Police Department, but it is a necessary evil. There can be no justice if there are corrupt Police Officers (or CSI's) running wild on the streets. :shifty:

Just my two cents...:)

No matter what Stetler was like the team wouldn't like him because he is iab. Its his job to investigate them, and looking at what they get upto they need some supervision! He does seem quite sympathetic to them at times, afew times he has shown concern for H and just been brushed off, its no wonder he gets frustrated.

Re: The "I hate Stetler" thread

I totally agree with Calihan. Just to comment on blaming everything on Speed's death, Stetler has not blamed everything on Speeds death, I only saw it in the one episode. Ryan, he could have fixed the sistuation himself if he had let H help him. If someone accussed you of something Need4Speed, they would have to look into it.

After Speed died, I lost interest in the show as I thought that they had gone down hill, but watch every episode that Stetler is in as he makes it more interesting and you always want to see what will happen between him and H.

:thumbsup:Wow! Where'd we find all these Rick Stetler threads?

Anyway, you want someone like Rick Stetler there. The job of IAB is to police the police. Someone else on the board said that Stetler just seems to get bounced around to anything the writers want him to be. One week he's sympathetic; the next week he's a girlfriend-beating jerk.

Love him or hate him, David Lee Smith has done a fantastic job with this character (and looks pretty darn good while doing it!) Someone else said he's the "Ziggy"--can't win for losing!

Rick had to fire Ryan. The gambling charge arguably made Ryan a dirty cop (Hides head from flying objects). Sorry, but I have a real problem with the way "Stand Your Ground" was done. Calleigh should have understood that an investigation would be inevitable. She SHOULD have been put on modified duty pending the outcome. An investigation is meant to find out exactly what happened.

The Horatio/Yelina/Stetler love triangle is sort of my guilty pleasure, but in real life that would have been very dangerous. All Yelina would have to have done is get involved in an incident, and her credibility would have been zero. Although it would have been a good chance for Horatio to nail Rick if he was the one to do the investigating.

I also agree that the black eye was very ooc for Rick. I believe he tried very hard to give Yelina his best, but how could he possibly do that when he was a placeholder for the man she really loved?

I was suprise to find all the Stetler threads to. You would think that they would make him a more regular charcter with how many people like him. I agree that DLS had done a great job playing Rick Stetler. If he is suppose to be a girlfriend beating guy, then how did he show so much control when H confronted him in Crime Wave. You think that he would have hit H for that if he was that way.

It seems like the team is not so much against him lately when he has to invesitage them.
