Should CSI NEW YORK go upstate more??

OK, I read something interesting. It seems that at first they weren't sure about naming the show CSI NEW YORK, but they were also considering the name CSI MANHATTAN. And I think that makes a lot of sense, because they've really only been inside New York City, haven't they??

I don't know if any of you are fans of NYPD BLUE but I remember seeing a great episode in the repeats in which Andy and Bobby had to travel several hours away inside the state of New York to pick up a subject. And that was really cool, because it wasn't a big city at all anymore, but they arrived in a small town where they were excited to have actual police officers come over from the city. And before they could even begin with their case Andy and Bobby had to pose for photos for the local newspaper, because it was so newsworthy to have two real-life NYC detectives!! That just cracked me up, LOL!

Anyway, I wonder if it would also be cool for the CSI NEW YORk guys to do an episode outside New York City? They've done that a few times on the other shows, you know, with CSI MIAMI going to the Everglades and the first CSI going to the rest of Nevada. And I just think it would be really cool if CSI NEW YORK did that too, because most people see the name New York and think it's just the city, but it's a cool thing that it's much more than that!!

Do you think this would also be a good idea?? And what kind of story would work for that? I'm not sure if they even have jurisdiction outside the city, LOL, but that is a good question too.

[I should admit I haven't seen all of the episodes! So if they've already done something like that and I missed it, please let me know here!! And sorry for opening the thread then.]

New York City is so big it practically IS its own state (and they have been outside of Manhattan), so I don't know if them traveling outside of it is equivilent to the Miami crew going to the Everglades or the LV crew going to other parts of Nevada. Maybe, though, something could happen Upstate that they couldn't figure out with their own CSIs, so they have to call down to NYC for help. :D

Hmm... I guess New York CITY is part of the marketing appeal of the show. When people watch it, they EXPECT to see the city as being the setting for the crimes. It just wouldn't work to see them solving crimes in the suburbs. But then again, it wouldn't hurt to see them get out of the city for one or two episodes. I'm so not familiar with the area so I wouldn't know where they'd go. Maybe the Hamptons?

I agree with the thought the NYC is big enough location wise to support most of the story lines, but I would like to see an EP or 2 a season outside the city. It would spice things up.

I also think there's another thing that has a big effect on it. When you say New York, you automatically think of Manhattan. I think that's a big reason that they're sticking with down there. Also, it's NYC... pretty much anything goes.

Maybe they can go to a forensic seminar in the Catskills or do an episode in Albany to enact some evidence law for ths state.

Trust me, nothing good happens up here. It would make for a very boring episode.

Well, I live in Westchester, only 30 miles north of NYC, and I could say the same thing about living here.

Personally, I LOVE to go "upstate" as long as it's TRULY "upstate" which I mean further north than Putnam County.

Tanglewood was partly based in Yonkers, which is in Westchester, but borders on New York City.

Now, if they'd like to come film in my hometown, I've got a famous prison they can use as a backdrop...just make sure Carmine is in that scene and I know about it in advance to get down there!

I would like to see the areas of Yonkers and Mamaroneck in Westchester County where I lived. But, as with all three CSI series, except for some fly overs, all the shots with the stars would be filmed in the Los Angeles area. Instead of Rye Playland, they would film at Malibu Pier.

Not necessarily. CSI does occassionally shoot scenes in Las Vegas. I don't watch Miami, so I don't know if they've done any shooting there. But there is really no reason why they couldn't do shots in NY. In fact, in the episode "Rain" wasn't it reported that they were shooting and the NYPD did a terrorist drill, unknown to the production company, and it ended up in the episode?

Edited to add the following from the episode guide for "Rain"

* Scenes from this episode were filmed on location in New York. While filming in the city, the producers of the show and star Melina Kanakaredes were caught in a rain storm near Central Park. An unannounced police terrorist response drill allowed the producers to create new scenes and incorporate New York’s finest into the filming of the show.
BTW, love your sig...I'm mourning Trip Tucker!

Why stop at upstate? Why not just go NESW? I think NYC is more universally appealing to the mass market, if you start doing suburbs just how many towns/series do we need?
CSI:NY has only done 2 series so far, I don't think it is "successful" enough to go changing locations too wildly just yet. Plus with a location as broad as NY there is so much scope for every possible scenario. If i'm not mistaken there has been several epsiodes based in/around the outer boroughs?

seeing them visit different parts of ny would be interesting, but i would really love to see them do a crossover case with jersey. i mean, vegas does them with la, i would love to see them come to jersey. it would be fun, and i can hear the snarky flack comments now.

and no, them digging up the body in giant's staduim doesn't count.

Yeah it would be interesting to see them go upstate. Pleanty of places to go, maybe I'm a little biased because that's where my mom's side of the family is from. Maybe see a smaller crime labe with less eqipment used.

Interesting idea. Both Miami and Las Vegas have ventured outside their respective cities by a considerable distance, while NY stays close to home when they do leave the city. I think NYC is supposed to be the whole flavor of the show though. The fast-paced excitement just doesn't extend very far past the city. Hell, I went to college in upstate NY and had to travel to a neighboring area to get a NY driver's license because the town my school was in didn't have enough traffic signals for the local DMV to administer driving tests. Dead serious. So not all parts of upstate are suitable for the show. In my opinion, it's best they just stick to the city and the outlying areas. CSI:Upstate NY would be pretty damn boring.
