‘CSI: NY’ Makes Transition With Little Hoopla and A ‘Genius’ Twist
by Matt Webb Mitovich

CBS’ ‘CSI: NY‘ – which this fall moves to Fridays at 9/8c – has a lot to accomplish in its Season 7 premiere airing September 24.

For one, there’s the none-to-small matter of how the Messers extricate themselves from the closing scene of the finale, in which Danny found cray-cray killer Shane Casey in their apartment, in the middle of the night, cradling baby Lucy.
The new season’s first hour must also account for Stella’s absence (Melina Kanakaredes opted not to return to the show this fall) and introduce a new CSI, Jo Danville, to be played by Sela Ward (’Once & Again’).

Sela Ward Joins ‘CSI: NY’ In Season Premiere
While we won’t get into specifics as to how the Messers’ crisis plays out, Carmine Giovinazzo (who plays Danny) says the resolution comes “swiftly.”
Life for the New York CSIs then leaps forward five months. Stella is gone, having accepted a job in New Orleans. And it is not long at all into the premiere that Ward’s character, a former FBI agent relocated from D.C., reports for her first day.

There won’t be any donuts-and-coffee “welcome party” awaiting Jo, however.
“Just as she shows up, instantaneously there’s a crime,” Hill Harper (aka Hawkes) tells Fancast. “There’s no opportunity for a real ‘How do you do?’”
The nature of that first Season 8 crime scene is such that it’d be criminal to reveal it here. Let’s just say that we agree with Harper when he calls it “a genius choice.”
Mr. & Mystery: Did ‘CSI: NY’ Star Wed GH’s Vanessa Marcil?
On the personal front, the ‘CSI: NY’ cast has only started the process of moving on minus Kanakaredes, though having a TV vet like Ward added to the mix has soothed any sting.

“Clearly, we’ve been used to one kind of thing for six years, so it will take more than a couple of days to get used to a new character and … have the character find her way,” says series lead Gary Sinise (Mac). “We’ll all miss Melina, but Melina made a choice to move on, and we were lucky enough to have Sela come in.”
Ward is “a wonderful actress with a great personality,” says Sinise.
Bringing in a new forensics sleuth also promises to inject ‘CSI: NY’ with “a jolt of energy,” Harper believes. “Seven years in, it gets comfortable, easy to write scenes because you know the characters so well. So this will challenge the writers a bit. I’m excited about it.”

Thanks Perl for the interesting article. I think a new wind cannot damage. It becomes certainly an interesting and full of suspense Season.:eek:

Personally, I am really excited for season 7. And I think that a new cast member, especially one as well-known as Sela Ward, is a really good thing for CSI: NY right now. And also, I am a HUGE Danny/Lindsay fan and I loved all the DL scenes that they have had the past two seasons (and that's a lot) but I also understand that there are some people who really do not like DL so I think that since DL has been pretty much in the spotlight these past two seasons, that to please the non-DL fans, that the writers need to make DL less prominent. I am not saying that they should stop with the DL scenes because that would make the DL fans, including me, very angry and that would just ruin the whole marriage thing altogether but I am saying that they should maybe take a backseat for a while. Sorry if that made absolutely no sense. :)

Having a good "work ethic" does not imply that Anna (or any other woman in the entertainment industry) should restrict herself from having children. If she wants to expand her family, that is a decision that only she and her husband can make, and it does not reflect poorly on her work ethic. By all accounts, she has done all that she was physically capable of doing while she was pregnant - and I believe the courtroom scene in "Sleight Out of Hand" was filmed just a few weeks after she gave birth.

However I may feel about the show's handling of her pregnancies, there's no arguing that Anna worked hard while she was pregnant and after she gave birth. I think that's a perfect example of good work ethic. ;)

If you are on a tv show of high profile and has a quite regular filming schedule, that means you have to avoid changing your body condition as it suits you. It's different from being ill because you can't choose when you ill, but you can choose when to pregnant. That's the difference. If you are not on a job like that, it won't be a problem. But if you are an actress on a tv show in progress and being watched every Wednesday(or Friday), you shouldn't because She's not one of the producers to decide where the show goes and what to do with a character. You can say that it wasn't her decision, it was tptb's call. But she made them inevitably change their plans. Not once, twice, and maybe there will be another time. That's not a good work ethic in my book. But obviously you have different ideas. :)

I think it's pretty clear that she's pregnant but I can be wrong and I see why people want to avoid speculation so I will not bring up this topic anymore. :)

Unless it's in your contract not to "change your body condition" you have every right to do so. And it would be discriminatory and illegall to contractually not allow a woman to get pregnant. As for "making" them change their plans. She didn't. They chose to accomodate the pregnancy by writing it into the show, and as much as I think that was a bad call, that does NOT reflect poorly on Anna Belknap. A "work ethic" means how hard someone works, period. There's no evidence Anna doesn't work as hard as the rest of the cast so to call her out for a poor work ethic isn't fair.

Also, there's an ET video someone posted where she's in the background. In that video she doesn't look pregnant at all, so it's very possible the "baby bump" in the pictures was a bad angle or the way the dress was cut.

The nature of that first Season 8 crime scene
What? I highly doubt they've finished writing Season 7, much less started on Season 8.

No just a mistake in the article

TV Guide Magazine has learned exclusively that CSI: NY has cast Edward James Olmos in his first television role since Battlestar Galactica's heroic Admiral William Adama.
In a story about gang turf wars, the actor plays a former gang leader — newly released from prison — who goes head-to-head with Mac Taylor (Gary Sinise), who had put him away 15 years earlier. The episode will air in October.

Yep, I was just about to say that. The character is definitely from episode 4.

I know BSG was a really popular show, so it's always good to see actors from a popular show guest starring elsewhere. :)

I am so sooooo happy about EJO appearing on NY :D. I absolutely love him and Battlestar is my all time favorite show :D. Plus he is one half of my all time favorite ship (also from BSG which you can see on my sig :)). I'm a very happy fan right now .

YAY! God bless the cast! :D

Edward James Olmos is an excellent choise for this season:bolian:

This sounds really good:thumbsup:

The connection between the CSI's is sometimes curious:

Edward James Olmos played Bill Adama on BSG and he'll be now on CSI NY.

Esai Morales plays Joseph Adama (Bill's father) on Caprica (same BSG producers takes place around 50 years before BSG) and just appeared on the CSI Miami finale.

Sasha Roiz plays Sam Adama (Bill's uncle) on Caprica and will be appearing on CSI Vegas this next season.

The Adama men are all over the CSI's . I'm sorry if this is kind of a random post but I just found it interesting and curious.
